I note no further outrage in mainstream or Jewish media about this. We are all supposed to forget. He didn’t want the job anyway, and maybe he was just TOO GOOD! (/s).

Walz likes casseroles! Walz is a dad! Walz is from a state where they gave out Covid drugs based on race! Walz may have exaggerated his military record! (Wait….).

Seriously, with all the commentary about how young people from minority groups can see themselves in Kamala and know that one day they can be President…with all the emphasis on representation, inclusion, etc. Not for us? Are we really “included” if we cannot aspire to or be accepted to the highest office in the land? What am I supposed to say to MY children?

And, hey, before you chime in, and to PREEMPT further comment (not because you’re wrong necessarily, but because I’m just tired of hearing it, and it’s not going to persuade me to vote for the Game Show Host), I’ll do it for you: “why are you a Democrat?” Etc.

Possible Answer: (I admit it’s a tough question, tougher every day). I also care about reproductive rights, and I’m for them, all of them, including birth control, IVF, and the right to terminate a pregnancy. What am I supposed to tell my children, especially my daughter, about THAT? Is SHE really “included” in the Republicans’ view of this country?

So, it’s a conundrum.

Also- have the Republicans every nominated a Jew for Prez or Veep, and what makes you so sure they would? Discuss.

MORE PREEMPTION, please read:

I believe and think the evidence will support, that the vast majority of terminations happen within the first three months, the 1% of those that happen very late, happen because the baby or the mother will not survive to birth or will die shortly thereafter, and termination is necessary to preserve the mother’s life or prevent suffering. I will also note that you may disagree based on a religious or moral belief that a fetus or embryo at any stage of development is a human life worthy of protection in the same way a human baby is once it is born. I hope you will respect that I do not have this belief, and that I believe that either position, like other moral and religious beliefs, is a matter of opinion and faith. Because I believe this is a matter of opinion I believe those advocating for a particular policy on either side of this issue must recognize and accommodate differences of opinion. I believe that it must follow that absolute mandates in favor of one belief or the other are inappropriate. It must also follow that legislation that ensures both beliefs are protected and can be exercised is necessary. Again, this is my opinion, but because it is my opinion, I will vote for the candidate and party whose position best matches it.

To the elite liberal Jews of voting age, if you can’t see what’s coming , I won’t say “I told you so”.

This is brilliant, Batya. Thanks for summing it all up so succinctly. I was sure if she chose Shapiro it would be over for Trump. But she’s an ideologue at heart, so that could never be.

Jew haters, but American Jews continue to vote for them.

Jews and blacks need to really reconsider how loyal they've been to the Democrats. And, perhaps Jews can rethink if the black population has been as interested in Jewish protections as the Jews have been interested in black rights and protections. That looks like a one way street to me. Jews were prominent in the Civil Rights era, and I see no corresponding commitment on the other side. I am, however familiar with the term 'Hymietown' thanks to Jesse Jackson.

Glad to see that Batya is becoming a more regular contributor at the FP. She needs to dump whatever gig she has at Newsweek. Get her on the payroll!

For those who think this acceptance of Jew-hatred is new among the Dems, think about how the Dems have never distanced themselves from Farrakhan, even though he has been spewing Nazi Jew-hatred for over half a century. Sharpton has been almost as bad.

When there are 6-7 million Jews, but 40 million blacks, most of whom are fanatic Jew-haters, it is obvious that the Jews have been the ones thrown under the bus.

And most of the Jewish vote will still go to Kamala, with or without Shapiro. The same can’t be said of the progressive Hamas wing of the party.

So Batya, are you ready to vote for Trump? From what I've seen on you on YouTube, I suspect the answer was "yes" even before this. Hopefully, there is no doubt in your mind now.

Now, if you could please convince Bari and Nellie.

C'mon Batya, this is a partisan stretch. Let's look at the history. Democrats ran Joe Lieberman as VP over 20 years ago. There are 35 Jewish Democrats in Congress (only TWO republicans), including Senate Majority leader Schumer. Bernie Sanders, a Jew, came close to winning the Democrat nomination in 2016. This year, Josh Shapiro, a practicing religious Jew, was one of the final two candidates being vetted by Democrats for VP, after being nominated by Democrats to be governor of one the largest states in the country.

But Democrats have the problem with Jews? Exactly where are all the Jews that Republicans have put in leadership positions?

Expand full comment

The fact that Lieberman was the pick 24 years ago but the Dems couldn't stomach Shapiro in 2024 tells you how the Democrats have regressed.

As for Jews being mostly Democrats - don't worry, between the raw Nazi exterminationist Jew-hatred of its Marxists, combined with the fact that a growing percentage of Jews are Orthodox/Hasidic, the politics will take care of themselves.

Recent polls already show Trump getting 50% of the Jewish vote, and the sampling used often underestimates Orthodox and Hasidim, so I suspect the pro-Trump vote is even higher.

And Bernie and Shapiro simply can’t be put in the same category. Bernie is not observant and far from a staunch supporter of Israel.

Batya, your analysis and conclusion are right on. I commented on an article in TFP last month, when the idea of Shapiro as a running mate was first floated. I said it would not happen precisely because of his religion. What is annoying is the pretense of the consideration. While I am true red and a Jew, I never would have voted for the ticket, his presence on the ballot would have solidified the Jews who are starting to see the red light. I hope the Jews who blindly vote blue regardless of facts finally see the truth about their democrat party.

I had the same thought. Shapiro would have drawn in the centrist/uncertain vote, particularly among Jewish people, by refuting Harris’ anti-Israel messaging. Now it feels like she’s doubling down.

Expand full comment

What a pathetic attempt to stir up sh-t. Republicans are scared of Harris, and they've got nothing with Trump so they're back to scare tactics and division.

Here's David Axelrod, who's Jewish, saying not choosing Shapiro was a mutual decision by both Harris and Shapiro: https://www.yahoo.com/news/axelrod-suggests-harris-passing-over-145157705.html

Regardless, this stupid attempt to turn Democrats against each other belongs on Newsmaxx or the grave of OAN. The Free Press should be better than this. I think B.W. is seeing the writing on the wall and can't handle it.

Yet, everyone knows this is exactly why Harris did not choose Shapiro. A deeper analysis would have gotten into how Shapiro would have helped Harris win the critical state of Pennsylvania, and how sacrificing Pennsylvania puts her campaign at significant risk. But the point remains: a material segment of the Democrat party is antisemitic.

Expand full comment

Sacrificing Pennsylvania? What in the world are you talking about? She's going to win PA.

As for a segment of the Dem party being antisemitic, yes. But see my comment just below: antisemitism is on both sides, and I don't see a Republican Senator much less a Republican contender for VP.

Expand full comment

If you are ignoring the obvious antisemitism in the Democrat Party, you've simply got your head in the sand.

Expand full comment

There is clear antisemitism on the far left of the Democratic Party, just like there's clear antisemitism on the far right of the Republican Party (remember Jewish space lasers?). Shapiro made it the finals of the VP selection. Chuck Schumer is Jewish. Remind me which Jewish Republican was ever considered for Vice President? List for me the Republican Jewish Senators?

Mr. Taggart: I got it! I know how we can run everyone out of Rock Ridge.

Hedley Lamarr: How?

MR. Taggart: We’ll kill the firstborn male child in every household.

Hedley Lamarr: Too Jewish.

So apparently was Josh Shapiro. On the evidence Kamala Harris and the Democrats were set before the weekend to select him as their candidate for vice president and announce it at a big kickoff in Philadelphia. Since they have to carry Pennsylvania and generally need the votes of some people who are not leftists, the selection seemed obvious to lots of people, an easy slam dunk of a decision. But they picked someone else. The best guess is that having a pro-Israel Jew on the ticket outraged the party’s pro-Hamas leftists enough that Harris found it necessary to drop him. That provides some useful information about her and the party that people should pay attention to. It also provides more evidence that Trump is one way undeservedly lucky SOB.

Listen, ultimately this is good for all of us. Shapiro is a #1, not a #2. He will run next election and won't have the stink of what I expect to be a weak Harris Presidency to shunk off. He is like Obama in that he just seems destined to be President.

My current expectation given polling data and campaign fundraising is Harris to win the upcoming election.

Looking at how the betting markets are reacting, all the momentum is in Harris' favor.

This has excited the Democratic base. They really hate the Jews. Now they can focus on turnout (and battle boxes).

If anyone is interested in saving institutions like the Supreme Court, it's all up to the Senate races in Montana and Ohio.

The possibility of Harris sticking it to the antisemitic faction of the Democratic Party and picking Shapiro as a running mate was the only thing that excited me about this whole godforsaken race.
