Cuban-Americans are currently the only Americans allowed to visit Cuba (in order to see family), but after a new bill is unveiled on Capitol Hill tomorrow, the rest of Americans may be able to go too. Several senators will rally around a new bill to lift the United States’ travel ban with Cuba. Obama discussed lifting the travel ban on the campaign, and has slowly eased restrictions since he’s taken office, making it easier for Cuban-Americans to visit relatives, and allowing for trade-related travel. While several Democratic senators, like Richard Lugar and Chris Dodd, support the bill, its passing will still be very controversial. Cuban members of the Senate, like Sen. Robert Menendez, think that allowing free-flowing trade and travel to Cuba will only enrich the Castro regime.
