Under the following motto "Official statistics, a window for understanding society", the 9^th European Statistics Day is being celebrated.

However, in order for people to understand statistical data, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SORS) opened a page on the website called Statistics for Beginners in order to celebrate the European Statistics Day.

The goal of this page is to facilitate the use and understanding of statistics both for pupils and students and for all those citizens who are interested in statistics.

In August 2024, the number of 2 578 building permits was issued, presenting the decrease of 10.4% when compared to August 2023. Out of the total number of permits issued in August 2024, 83.7% related to buildings, and 16.3% to civil engineering constructions. When only buildings are concerned, 81.7% of permits related to residential buildings, and 18.3% to non–residential ones, while regarding civil engineering constructions the largest number related to pipelines, communication and electric power lines (72.9%).

According to the Survey data, the at-risk-of-poverty rate was 19.9% in 2023, and compared to 2022, it was lower by 0.3 percentage points. The at-risk-of-poverty or social exclusion rate amounted to 27.2%, and it was lower by 1.8 percentage points relative to 2022.

Inflation in September 2024 at the annual level is 4.2%, which is a decrease of 0.1 p.p. compared to last month's annual inflation, which amounted to 4.3%.

In the Republic of Serbia, in 2023, published were 12 471 books and brochures, which represents an almost identical number of editions as in the previous year, or an increase of 1 title compared to the year 2022.

The greatest number of published books and brochures related to the area of linguistics, philology and literature – 40.2%, then to the area of social sciences – 30.7%.

82.5% of books and brochures were published in Serbian language, while editions in other languages and multilingual editions encompassed 17.5%.

Producer prices of agricultural and fishing products in August 2024, compared to the same month of 2023 were increased by 4.7% average.

Gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023 amounted to RSD 8 817 763 million at current prices. When compared to the previous year, GDP increased by 18.2% in nominal terms, and by 3.8% in real terms.

The overall external trade in the Republic of Serbia for the period January-August 2024 amounted to:

   - USD 48591.9 million - which was an increase of 3.4% compared to the same period last year;

   - EUR 44850.6 million - which was an increase of 3.5% compared to the same period last year.
