1- ASME Timeline
ASME was founded in 1880 in response to numerous steam boiler pressure vessel
 failures.
First performance test code of Steam Boilers trail was conduct in 1884.
First revision of an ASME standard was made in 1900.
ASME has over 140,000 members in 158 countries worldwide .
It produces approximately 600 codes and standards covering many technical areas.
                                                                            Continued

3- MTC Introduction
Mill Test Certificate (MTC) and often also called a Certified Mill Test Report, Certified Material
Test Report, Mill Test Report (MTR), Inspection Certificate, Certificate of Test.
 Quality Assurance certificate.
MTC provides Traceability and Assurance to the end user about the quality of the steel used
and the process used to produce it.
Certifies material's Chemical and Physical Properties and states a product made of material.
Compliance with an International Standards ASTM, ASME, EN or specific standards.

SA106_4.4: pipe NPS> 2 (hot finished) Unless otherwise specified
Heat Treatment:
SA106_5.1:
• Hot-finished pipe need not be heat treated.
• Cold-drawn pipe shall be heat treated after the final cold draw pass at a temperature of
  1200°F (650°C) or higher.
                                                                             Continued

Bending Requirements:
SA106_11.1: Pipe ≤ NPS 2
Flattening Tests :
SA106_12.1 & S3: Pipe over NPS 2 [DN 50]

Hydro Test (SA106 SA530_20.2)
Minimum required hydrostatic test pressure:
If Ø ≤ 3.5“(88.9mm) T.P 2500 psi (17.0 MPa)
   Ø > 3.5“(88.9mm) T.P 2700 psi (19.0 MPa)
Minimum Time: 05 Seconds

Nondestructive Electric Test (SA106_14)
SA106_14.1: As an alternative to the hydrostatic test.
• Ultrasonic testing
• Eddy current examination
• Flux leakage examination
SA106_14.3.5: Hydrostatic testing is not necessarily capable of detecting very tight cracks.
                                                                             Continued
