From Egypt to Zion

The Last Revival

“The Journey of Israel” © 2002 Brian J. Bailey

Abraham – the Father of Our Faith
(Romans 4:16-17)

Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to

grace,
so that the promise might be sure to all the seed,
not only to those who are of the law,
but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham,
who is the father of us all
(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many
nations”)
in the presence of Him whom he believed—God,
who gives life to the dead and
calls those things which do not exist as though they did;

What is the Promise to Abraham/ His

• Gen. 12:2-3 • Gen. 15:1-5
• God will make him a great nation; • God would be his shield and exceedingly great
• he will be blessed reward
• his name will be great • he would have son from his own body
• he will be a blessing • his descendants would be innumerable like stars.
• God will be on his side to bless • Gen. 17
• those who bless him, curse those • he would be exceedingly multiplied
who curse him • nations and kings would come from him,
• in him all families of the earth will • God would be their God as an everlasting covenant
be blessed
• the land as their everlasting possession
• Gen. 13:14-15,17 • a son by Sarah
• God further promised that the land
he had sojourned into will be given
• Gen. 22:16-18
to him and his descendants forever • his seeds will be like sand, which is finer that dust,
on the seashore
• His descendants would be like the
dust of the earth • they will possess the gates of their enemies
God’s promise to Abraham regarding the land was
fulfilled
when David took over Mount Zion.

Israel (Abraham’s seed by the law/ circumcision) is the

template for the Church (Abraham’s seed by faith/
circumcision of the heart).

The journey of Israel from Exodus to Zion is the template

to the spiritual fulfillment of the promises to Abraham to
the Church.
(1 Cor. 10:1-11, Rom. 15:4)

• Out of Egypt – Passover – Salvation (By Moses)
• Crossing Red Sea – Water Baptism (By Moses)
• Mount Sinai - Giving of the Law and Holy Spirit (By Moses)
• Wilderness/ Kadesh Barnea – Testing
• Crossing Jordan River – Circumcision of the Flesh/Heart, Crucified

• Hebron – Wholeheartedness/ Cities being taken (By Caleb, David)
• Mount Zion – All Enemies had been overcome/ the Last
Stronghold/ Unity/ God’s Dwelling Place/ the Glory of God/
Revival (By David)
Hebron Before Zion
• Abraham was separated from Lot there (Gen. 13:9)
• Sarah was buried there (Gen. 23:19)
• Caleb who had a different spirit and was said to fully
follow God asked for Hebron (Jos. 14:13-14)
• David was anointed king the 2nd time there and ruled
over part of Israel (2 Sam. 2:4)
What is Mount Zion? (1)
• Mount Zion was the city with foundations, whose builder and maker was God
that Abraham saw (Heb. 11:10).
• It is the physical Mount Zion in Jerusalem for Abraham’s physical descendants and
spiritual Mount Zion in heavenly Jerusalem for Abraham’s spiritual
descendants (Heb. 12:22, Rev 14:1-5).
• A place of rulership over nations (Isa. 25:7, Hab. 2:14, Matt. 24:14)
• Jesus Himself will be coming back to Mount Zion (Zec. 8:3).
• He will rule the world from Zion in the Millennium (Isa. 2:3).
• Christian perfection
• “the spirits of just men made perfect” (Heb. 12:22-23).
• David was a man after God’s own heart
• God’s preferred dwelling place (Psa. 87:2, 132:13)
• David moved the Ark of the Covenant which was in the Holy of Holies of the Tabernacle of
Moses from Gibeon to Zion, while leaving the Outer Court and Holy Place in Gibeon (2Chr.
1:3-6)
What is Mount Zion? (2)
• Those saints who attain to Mount Zion are “the church of the
firstborn” who would receive the double portion of the Spirit to do
the greater works Jesus spoke of (Heb. 12:22-23, Joh. 14:12).
• They have the Word of God in them for the Law will come out of
Zion (Isa. 2:3, Dan. 11:33).
• Those in Zion are the “house of prayer for all nations” (Isa. 56:7).
• They are those “who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has
not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully… [their]
righteousness from God… the generation of those who seek
Him…” (Psa. 24:3-6).
• God’s glory will appear there (Psa. 102:16, Isa. 4:5, Rev. 21:10-18).
Why David?
• after God’s own heart (1 Sam. 13:14)
• a perfect heart (1 Ki. 11:6, ref. Psa. 86:11)
• who would do all of God’s will
• overcame last enemy – Jebusites (division)
• united the whole of Israel
• brought Israel into fullness of Abraham’s blessings
The Last Revival
• Mount Zion as the ultimate destination of Israel’s journey typifies
the Church in the last days when it is the time of the latter rain
(Joel. 2:23).
• Many places have been known for revivals of the past. However,
the last and the greatest revival of the Church Age will not be at
Mount Sinai where Feast of Pentecost when the Spirit of God was
first poured out, or Mount Hebron where cities are taken for Christ
(Jud. 16:3).
• It will be the Feast of the Tabernacles, the last major feast/harvest
in Israel’s calendar, and it will be at Mount Zion (Jas 5:7).
• The covering of Zion will be over the nations (Isa. 25:6-8).
The Last Revival
• There are no shortcuts to the journey of Israel.
• Although we are in the time of the last days of the Church age whereby
God is accelerating these experiences in believers’ lives to bring us to
Zion, each of these tests and experiences require a response in the
believer’s heart to move on with Him.
• The vision of Zion needs to be birthed into believers’ heart for the
highest aspirations of God for individuals. If not, many will settle for less
as Israelites have demonstrated in their journey.
• Praise God for David who broke through the status quo and brought
Israelites to Zion. God is likewise searching for those who will be whole-
hearted towards Him that will dwell with Him in Zion and bring other
along with them (2Chr. 16:9-10).
And this gospel of the kingdom
shall be preached in all the world
for a witness unto all nations;
and then shall the end come.
