What is a Symbol?
 A symbol is a picture or a sign that
indicates or represents something.

 We often come across such symbols in


our day-to-day life as on roads, in hospitals,
theatres, malls, and so on.

 Certain symbols are commonly used


throughout the world while some are unique
to a nation.

Every nation has a set of symbols which


are unique and reflect the heritage and

 We see three lions standing


back to back. The fourth lion is
hidden from our view. All lions are
mounted on an abacus.

 The rectangular frame has a


bull on the right, a horse on the
left and the Ashok Chakra also
known as Dharma Chakra
(Wheel of Law) at the centre.
