Introduction – class example
In the realistic fiction novel, Tiger Daughter, written by Rebecca Lim, it is
clear that Henry could not have achieved success without the support of
others. Firstly, Henry could not have achieved his goals without the support
Wen provided him to pursue his dreams. Additionally, Henry may have
struggled with his academics without the support of Miss Spencer. Finally,
Mrs. Zhou supports the Xiao family while they try to overcome the loss of a
loved one, therefore allowing Henry to succeed.
Body Paragraph
Topic sentence = Firstly, Henry could not have achieved his goals without the support Wen
provided him to pursue his dreams. Evidence 1 = After Mrs. Xiao’s death, Wen writes to Henry
“you’re not going anywhere without me. And I’m not doing this without you.”Explanation 1 =
This demonstrates that Wen is trying to encourage Henry to persevere, despite the adversity he faces in
his personal life and continue to strive to achieve his goals. The reader may feel admiration for Wen’s
actions towards Henry and the strong friendship they share.Link = Furthermore, Henry wouldn’t have
been able to achieve his goals without Wen’s encouragement and friendship.Evidence 2 = After sitting
the entrance exam, Henry says to Wen, “Thank you, I will never forget, not even when I am old,
what you have done for me.”
Explanation 2 = This outlines that without Wen’s support, Henry could not have achieved his goal of
sitting the entrance exam. Additionally, he may have struggled to overcome the loss of his mother without
an encouraging friend by his side.
Lim’s intention is to highlight that it is important to support people during hardship and encourage them
to achieve their best.
Link = Therefore, this shows how Henry could not have succeeded without the support of Wen to pursue
his dreams.
