Using a Variety of Informative,

Persuasive, & Argumentative Writing


Techniques
Writing is a important form of
communication. Over the years, developing
writers become good ones as they have
embraced a clear understanding of the
different types of writing techniques and the
specific purpose each one serves.
Read the speech bubbles below. Decide to
which of them uses writing techniques in the
following types:

 informative
 persuasive
argumentative
One of the best ways to develop your skills in
writing is to learn how to choose the most
effective approach or techniques to get your
message across. In this lesson, we will explore
techniques to help you apply them in
informative, persuasive, and argumentative
writing.
a. Informative writing

• Educates the readers by importing straight


words information, facts, and details on a
certain topic.
• Gives them a new understanding or new
appreciation at some topic which one might
be familiar.
• Writers answers question of why or how.
Types of Informative Writing
1. Definition Essay – provides detailed
explanation of an idea.
2. Cause and Effect Essay – explains the
connection/ link up of two or more events.
3. opposing Sides Essay – presents all sides
of an issue.
4. Process Essay – gives step by step
explanation on how something works or
how to do something.
b. Persuasive writing
• convince the reader of the validity of the writers
arguments.
• builds arguments on opinion and factual statements.
•Intends to make the certain things.
•Presents arguments only about one.
Parts (I+B3R+C)
a. Introduction
b. Body
c. conclusion
In Quarter 3 Week 1-2 you learned that
argumentative writing aims to get the reader to
recognize that your side of the arguments is valid.
The main argument presented is elaborated and
explained through the presentation of its pros( in
favor of) and cons (against) of your position in an
issue or topic.
It begins with an introduction and ends with a
conclusion. In between are the body paragraphs,
where you must do three things: support your
opinion, present the opposing point of view, and tell
why that viewpoint is wrong. When you write an
arguments, you are trying to convince your reader
that your opinion is correct. A strong arguments has
five key parts.
Learning task 1.

Below is a mixed up informative text. Arrange


it in a way that shows the structure( I+MID+c) of
the ideas with topic, details, and big idea.
HOW TO SOLO TRAVEL SUCCESSFULLY
•The first way to travel solo successfully is to arrive
well- informed on the are.

your passport, extra stores of money, and keep
other documents in a theft-resistant bag.

•Your security is at risk when you are trapped in a busy
street scanning frequently the GPS on your phone while
looking for a place to eat or stay. It also matter if you
booked for you accommodation in advance and are in
the know of public transportation system.
Learning task 2.
Persuasive writing states and supports an
opinion. Based on the given statements, write
your own persuasive text using the structure (
I+B3R+C)
Some people think recesses in school should
be longer. They believe kids might learn better if
they had a longer break in the middle of a day.
However, the extra class time after recess would
make the school day longer. Therefore, kids
would get out of school later in the day. What do
you think? Support your opinion with persuasive
writing.
Learning Task 3

Write an essay arguing for or against the topic. “


Young people nowadays should decide to take a
gap year before they start university.”
CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING
• Outline the value of education.
• Decide whether one decision is more beneficial than
the others.
• Suggest how the issue should be treated in the
future.
• Develop a live paragraph argumentative essay of
100-200 words be guided by the following outline /
structure:(I- C/T+8- PCR+C)

Learning task 4
Read the given facts or ideas about throw-
away culture. Use them in developing your
essay focusing on techniques in one (1) of the
writing forms- informative, persuasive and
argumentative.
• People in the Philippines should learn to use things
over instead of simply throwing them away.
• Plastics in disposable items remain in the
environment for many years after the items have
been thrown away.
•Filipinos throw out 2 to 3 kilos of items per day, this is
more than half a ton of garbage per person each
year.
•Each year 1 million dogs and cats are put to sleep in
humane societies..
•Filipinos spend about 100 million pesos each year on
disposable plastic and paper plates.
•Filipinos spend nearly 29 million pesos each year on
disposable diapers.
•Other disposable items, such as pen, lighters and
razors cost another 18 million pesos.
•This fairly throw away attitude or culture has
become the worst problem of our time.
CONCEPT DIGEST
• Informative writing educates the readers by importing
straightforward information.
• Persuasive writing builds arguments on opinions and
factual statements.
• The main arguments is an argumentative essay is
