The World Tourism Organization defines ecotourism as: all
nature-based forms of tourism in which the main motivation of
the tourists is the observation and appreciation of nature as
well as the traditional cultures prevailing in natural areas.
What are ecotourism methods?

Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations


where flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary
attractions.
Why is it called ecotourism?

Environmental activist Héctor Ceballos-Lascuráin is thought to have coined


the term “Eco Tourism” which he used to describe, “travelling to undisturbed
areas in order to enjoy their natural beauty and culture.”
In 1981, Ceballos-Lascuráin founded the first Mexican ecotourism agency
called ECOTOURS.
Main concept of ecotourism

Ecotourism is known as a form of sustainable tourism concentrating on


environmental responsible travel. Visiting undisturbed natural areas and
protecting them is the main goal.
