Unit 11 Assignment 2 Mazen Ahmed 124402

The document discusses designing a network solution for a friend's music shop called "First Music". The author has been asked to plan a complete network and computer system to meet user requirements. This includes allowing customers to download music online, staff searching for music, centralized printing, secure administration accounts, and applications for downloading and managing music. The proposed network solution connects 3 computers, a printer, and a switch with Ethernet cables. An alternative wireless network is also proposed using a wireless router to connect devices without cables. Costs, justifications and a test plan are provided.

Unit 11 assignment 2

Mazen Ahmed
124402
Introduction

Today i will be talking about helping my friend with building his network with his music
shop called “first music” as i will be designing and building network and computing
solution. This will help/allow all users get online and use our website to browse our
products online as well as buying them online and having them delivered to their door in
matter of days. This will help the company come online and supply their music to others
( buyers and viewers.) this will establish business for the company as it will be easier for
them and buyers to access the music easily and all in one place.
Purpose

I have been asked to design and build a network solution for my friends music shop called “the first music” i
have been asked to plan a complete network and a computer system that meets the user requirements and
future expansion plans, the shop will sell new music and uses music and allow customers to get online in the
shop and download new music. I also need to plan to offer classes on how to download music and configure
mp3 devices.
User requirements

My user requirements are:

1. Customers must be able to download music.
2. Staff must be able to search for music.
3.Must have one centralised printer.
4 .Must have administrator account
5.Must be cost effective
6.Must have applications of software tools to download music and facilitate management off the
music in the music shop
7. Network must be secure
8. Must have 3 high spec computers
9.Must have operating system and application software
10.Must have 5 shared folders and 7 shared files for different access permissions for different users
11.Must have 3 network users, 1 network admin
12.Network must be configured so can add more users, removing existing users, change password,
change access rights, set login restrictions and disable user accounts.
13.the network must have network utilities.
14.must have username and password to access computer network
Network structure
A network structure is something pertaining to a computer network.

Types of computer networks:

- Peer- to- peer network
- client/server network

Types of network organizational structure

- Internal network structure
- Stable network structure
- Dynamic network structure
3 computers for the three users

Printer to print documents

Switch to connect the computers together

Software

Windows 10 operating system

Google software for slides and docs

Antivirus & firewall to stop hackers and viruses

Music software to play the downloaded music

Google chrome for browsing the internet for information

Network design

My network contains 3 high spec computers, printer

and a switch and it's all connected by ethernet
cables.
The computer is for the users to log in, The printer is
used for the user to print stuff and the switch is used
for all the devices to connect to each other and the
internet.
Alternative design

I have changed this as it is faster, the scale is

unlimited and it is a lot more efficient as you can
wirelessly connect as many devices as you can
whenever you want. For this i am going to use a
WLAN in which is connected wirelessly from all
the computers and devices in the network
connecting to each other then to the router.
Set up / configuration costs
A LAN network costs, annually in the uk, from around £150 to £550 depending on the equipments and the
amount of cable you need and whether you need to purchase a computer or modem.

A WLAN network costs less than LAN network because it has no wires.
Design justifications

I have chosen WLAN network structure, as it is cheaper and its faster, it also does not need a lot of space
because its wireless whereas LAN network structure needs space for the wires.
Test plan
In my test plan i will make sure and test that in the LAN network structure all the wires are connected and
that there is enough space for the wires also In my test plan i need to ensure that all the 3 computers and
the printer are working and i will configure and pin and make sure all the setup is linked
Conclusion

I conclude that i have chosen WLAN for my final design because….

- WLAN can support hundreds and thousands of devices

- WLAN are wireless
- WLAN is faster
- Cost saving
- Flexibility
