Verbal Simple Past Tense
Verbs in tenses consist of three forms, namely verb 1, verb 2, and verb 3. In this
case, as a simple past tense sentence, the verb 2 or the second verb will fill the predicate
position. That is, this verb is no longer the basic one, alias has changed its form because
it is influenced by time (past).
● Formula Verbal Simple Past
Tense:

(+) Subject + verb 2 + complement

(-) Subject + did + not + verb 1
(?) Did + subject + verb 1

Example:
(+) The nurse went to the hospital yesterday.
(-) The nurse didn’t go to the hospital
yesterday.
(?) Did the nurse go to the hospital
yesterday?
Regular verb & Irregular verb
1. Regular verb

In this verb, every verb is always added with the ending -ed, -d or -ied after the
base verb or the first form of the verb. However, you need to pay attention to
some of these rules! If the verb ends in -e, just add -d. For example, the simple
past tense of move becomes moved. If the verb ends in a consonant, just add -ed.
For example, from dump to dumped. For verbs that end in -y, -y usually changes
to –i if it follows a consonant, then add -ed. For example, from cry to cry.
Example :
She moved to the other division.
I didn’t dump a banana peel into the trash.
Did the baby cry last night?
2. Irregular verb
• Verb 1, verb 2, dan verb 3 bentuknya tidak sama.
Verb 2 dan verb 3 tidak berubah dari verb 1, dan pada
akhir kata tidak ditambahkan apapun
Irregular verb dalam past tense
What is past continuous
tense ?
Past continuous tense is a tense to express an event or incident that was
happening in the past (past) during a certain time. There are actually only two
adverbs of time used in the past continuous tense. However, the adverb of
time can be added according to the context of the discussion and also the
function of the sentence used. Because these tenses can be interrupted by
other events and can also be combined with other events at the same time,
there are two adverbs of time that characterize the past continuous tense.
