1) Research in Ayurveda is needed to validate classical principles and practices, identify new disease etiologies and progressions, and develop new analytical tools for quality control. 2) Important areas of Ayurvedic research include literary research on historical texts and manuscripts, clinical research on healthy individuals, patients, and diseases, and drug research related to identification, standardization, and validation of single or compound drugs. 3) Conducting research according to modern clinical and scientific standards can help promote Ayurveda, design treatment protocols, develop new drugs and formulations, and standardize panchakarma procedures.
