Device Supervision Service DSS
Main purpose:
The DSS is designed, to have a standalone, long-running system, that permanently monitors the
state of MOBATime devices.

Features of the DSS server application
• Implemented as a service for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 / 2012
• Configuration of this service will be made via MOBA-NMS v2 Expert edition
or via Windows Config Tool
• DSS knows the current state of a “whole time system”
o Device state and alarm supervision
o All supervision events are logged in a history database
• Device configuration via NMS Expert
• Public SNMP-Interface for M2M communication (Machine to Machine)
• Language: EN

Configuration of DSS
Configuration of devices to supervise -> made via NMS Expert.
But it is possible to access data via a standalone control application DSM.
Communication
Communication with MOBA devices happens over SNMP.
Data storage
The queried data are stored in an internal database
(limited to 10'000 messages / records)
Data backup can be done on an external SQL database
Alarm notification
Alarms can be reported to external systems via SNMP Traps
or E-Mail.
Encryption and protection
All communication ways are encrypted and access to DSS
is protected with username and password.

Configuration of DSS: Supervision of devices in device list
- All devices in device list can be supervised
- Click on "Supervise" button to activate supervision
- Click in "Severity Table" to define "Alert" or "Warning" for each error
- With the OID table you could even supervise each parameter
of a DTS which can be accessed by SNMP.

Supervision settings:
- Supervision interval: how often shall the device state be requested
- Alive trap interval: within this Interval an alive trap should be received
Remote database settings: only used, when an external database is required.
