Estimation and Costing I.S 1200 Part 19

The document discusses IS 1200 Part 19, which provides the method of measurement for water supply, plumbing, and drains for buildings and civil engineering works. It outlines various general rules for measurement, including measuring dimensions in a set order and including conveyance, handling, and other labor unless otherwise noted. Items to be measured separately include work underwater, in liquid mud, or in difficult conditions affected by tides. Pipes and fittings are generally measured in running meters by diameter, material, and joining method. The document also specifies how various water supply, plumbing, and drain components should be measured and described.

I.S 1200 PART 19 (XIX)

WATER SUPPLY, PLUMBING AND
DRAINS
The Indian standard is 1200 part 19 was adopted by
the Indian standard institution on 27th February 1981
after the draft finalized by the civil works
measurement section committee had been approved
by the civil engineering division council.
Measurement is very important in the field of civil
works for planning, execution and estimate.
There are different methods followed for
measurement which are not uniform
Scope:-
The standard covers part 19 the method of
measurement of water supply, plumbing and drains
in buildings and civil engineering works.
General rules :-
Items may be clubbed together provided the breakup of
the clubbed items is agreed to be on the basis of the
detailed description of the items.
In measurement of dimensions it should be generally in
the sequence of length, breadth or width and height or
depth or thickness.
The description of items shall otherwise stated be held
to include wherever necessary
conveyance and delivery handling loading unloading
storing fabrication hosting all the labors.
All work shall be measured net as fixed to the nearest
0.01 meter unless otherwise stated
hereinafter.
Items of work shall fully describe the materials and
workmanship and accurately represent the work to be
executed.
Work to be measured separately :-
work executed in the following conditions shall be
measured separately.
a.) work in or underwater
b.) work in liquid mud
c.) work in or under foul position
d.) work interrupting by tides
measurement in stages
a.) below ground / datum line
b.) above ground / datum line
General :-
1.) all pipes and fitting shall be classified according to their
nominal diameter, kind of material, quality and method of
joining and shall be measured in running meters.
2.) items shall include all cutting and waste of pipes.
3.)in case of fitting of unequal diameter, it shall be
designated by largest diameter.
4.) the testing of water supply drains and plumbing shall be
included in the description of the items.
5.) pipes laid or fixed in ducts, chases trenches, embed in
floor in walls with supports shall be measured separately.
6.)the method of measurement of excavation should be
according to is 1200 part 1.
7.)concrete beds, hunching and covering, including
formwork required shall be described
8.) length of pipes not exceeding one meter, other than
running length shall be measured separately in running
meters and described as in short length.
Water supply
1.)standard fittings like elbow, bends, tees connectors,
unions, dimensioning sockets shall be included along
with the pipes.
2.) caps, collars, plugs stopped ends shall be described
and enumerated.
3.) sluice valve, hydrants, stop cocks, covers, surface
boxes and water meters shall be described and
enumerated.
4.) the connection to the water main shall be described
and enumerated.
5.) boilers, cisterns and cylinders- this items should be
stated with the type of size, location, method of fixing,
working and test pressure and the type and size of the
connection for pipes.
6.)insulating covering shall be fully described and
measured in square meters in the case of boilers and
cylinders and tanks and in running meters in case of
pipes stating the diameter.
7.)insulation to bends, elbows, tees, valves and the like
shall be enumerated as extra over.
Plumbing
plumber’s work – locks, taps, valves, pillar cock, ball
valves caps and linings also cleaning eyes with screw
caps, ferrules, thimbles, unions waste washers,
perforated grating and the like shall be described and
enumerated.
Bends, elbows, tees, branches, inspection or access
doors, swans necks, enlarged sockets, etc, for soil waste
and bent pipes shall be enumerated as extra over.
Traps shall be enumerated. Joints at both ends shall be
included in the item.
Drain
The pipe shall be classified according to their nominal diameter,
the quality of pipe, kind of material and the method of jointing and
shall be measured in running meters, inclusive of all joints. The
measurement shall be taken along the centre line of the pipes and
fittings or specials
alternatively the pipes shall be classified according to the nominal
diameter, quality, kind of materials and shall be measured in
running meter.
The manhole and inspection chambers shall be measured in detail
as per relevant parts of this Indian standard.
Alternatively the manhole and inspection chamber shall be
described and enumerated. They shall classified into different
groups depending upon the depth, such as up to half meter depth,
half to one, one to two, two to three and so on. The depth of the
manhole shall be the distance between the top of the manhole
cover and the invert of the main drain
