DepEd Promotion and
Reclassification Guidelines
Overview
Reclassification is a form of staffing modification
and/or position classification action which may
be applied only when there has been a
substantial change in the regular duties and
responsibilities of the incumbent of the
position and which may result in a change in
any or all of the position attributes: position
title, level and salary grade.
COMPARISON BETWEEN PROMOTION &
RECLASSIFICATION OF POSITIONS
PROMOTION
Refers to advancement from one position to another
with an increase in duties and responsibilities and
usually accompanied by an increase in salary.
Promotion may only be resorted if there is a vacant
item due to retirement, promotion, transfer, etc.
There is a resulting vacancy of an item once a
promotion occurred.
Needs three (3) rating period from the last
appointment
COMPARISON BETWEEN PROMOTION &
RECLASSIFICATION OF POSITIONS
RECLASSIFICATION
Refers to the change in the position title requiring the
issuance of an appointment with a corresponding
increase in rank and salary.
Shall apply only to filled regular position in the national
government (NBC 2005-5)
There is no vacant item once the item is reclassified.
Reclassification may only be allowed after three (3)
consecutive years of at least VS or two (2) consecutive
years of Outstanding Performance from the effectivity of
the latest appointment

The performance rating of the candidate for the last three
(3) rating periods prior to screening should be at least
Very Satisfactory.
B. Experience
Experience must be relevant to the duties and functions of
the position to be filled.

BSE + 21 MA units
BSE + 20 years in the service

2. Original Official Transcript of Records (OTR) with two
(2) photocopies duly certified

3. Latest two (2) performance rating with at least very
satisfactory rating
4. Certificates of trainings/seminars (only those seminars
and work conferences sponsored solely by the bureau of
School or DepEd will be credited for purposes of
promotion to higher positions or for adjustment of salary
ranges).
