Transport Integration

 Transport integration means whatever modes or the

types of transport (rail, bus, water, etc) are involved
they all operate as one seamless entity.

 Speedy, convenient and economical connection of

services to make up complete journeys for
passengers from their origins to final destination.

 Integration of timetables, ticketing, parking spaces

for park and ride
National Urban
Transport Policy
OBJECTIVES

 Incorporating Urban transport System as an

important parameter at urban planning stage
 Encouraging integrated land use and transport
planning
 Investing in transport systems that encourage
greater use of public transportation and non
motorized modes
 Introducing Intelligent Transport Systems for traffic
management
Current state of public
transportation in
Bangalore
Current state of Public transportation in
Bangalore

 Served mainly by buses

 Metro newly constructed and other systems under
consideration
 Para transits like auto rikshaw taxis play an important role
Modes of Public Transport

Bus Transit System

BMTC owns over 3500 buses, carry approx 30 lakh commuters
running over 10 lakh bus kilometers per day

Rapid Transit System

Metro has two tracks: 18.1 km stretch from Mysore road to
Byappanahalli and 18.4 km stretch from Yeshwantpur to RV
road .
Travel time: 28-30 minutes
Capacity: 40000 (peak hour)

Para Transit
1. Auto Rikshaws
2. Taxis
Current Problems

 Heavy multi directional traffic

 Ever increasing traffic volume

 Limited possibility of improving road space

What Do We Need To Do?

Develop a Comprehensive
Integrated Public Transport in
Bangalore
Ultimate Vision
MAJOR CONSIDERATIONS

 Enhance attractiveness of public transport

 Develop more integrated hub

 Economics of travel

 Convenience and comfort

BYAPPANAHALLI INTEGRATED HUB

 Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation is planning to

develop an integrated hub in Byappanahalli near
Byappanahalli Metro Station and Railway station.
Total area for development: 25 Acres
Intelligent Transport System

 Information and communication technologies

applied to transport infrastructure and vehicles for

improved mobility, safety, and sustainability.

Features of ITS

 Gather information about commuter travel and

traffic habits
 Allows city planners and engineers to divert traffic to
less congested routes
 Connected car technology and real-time traffic
information
 Improve transport outcomes and traffic management
such as transport productivity, safety, reliability, and
reduced traffic congestion
What can Developers use?

 Journey time indicators

 Speed map panels
 Traffic snapshot images
 Traffic speed map
 Routes and fares of public transport MTR routes,
fares and barrier-free facilities Electric vehicle
charging station locations
What do we need?

 Coordination of cross-department policies

 Making available real-time traffic data from service
providers
 Data released in interoperable formats
 User’s and application developer’s active use of these
datas
 Updated laws that allow room for new intelligent
products and services
 Review the limitations of road and public transport
system capacity
Use technology to solve problems, make
informed decisions and embrace the
innovation
