Assignment 1 Exploration of Pertinent Apparel Production System For Bangladeshi Clothing Industries

The document discusses three apparel production systems used in Bangladeshi clothing industries: 1) the progressive bundle system, which is the traditional and most widely used system where bundles of garment parts move sequentially between operators; 2) the unit production system which uses an automated overhead transportation system to move garment components between computer-controlled workstations; and 3) the modular production system where multiskilled workers complete garments using a small set of machines within a U-shaped workspace. The progressive bundle system is used by 80% of apparel manufacturers in Bangladesh.

ASSIGNMENT 1

Exploration of Pertinent Apparel Production system for

Bangladeshi Clothing Industries

SUBMITTED BY:

INTRODUCTION:
Apparel production system is an integration of material handling,
production process and equipment.
There are basically three production systems are used in Bangladesh
garment industries:

1. Progressive bundle system

2. Unit production system
3. Modular production system.
1. Progressive Bundle System :

• As name implies the bundle of garment parts move from operation to

operation.
• Traditional Production system.
• Widely used by apparel manufacturers for several decades and still
today.
• 80% apparel manufacturers use the Bundle system.
• Sewing operations are laid out in sequence.
• Each operator receives a bundle, does his work, reties the bundle and
passes it to the next operator.
Unit Production System:
• The unit production system (UPS) for apparel industries is a flexible
material handling system that requires a computerized overhead
transportation system to move the garment components automatically
from one workstation to the next according to a pre-determined
sequence.
• This system is entirely computer controlled.
• It provides uninterrupted workflow to the workers and helps to
improve work efficiency and product quality.
• It can be widely used in garment factories, especially for
knitted/woven, trousers/shirts and other clothes.
Modular Production System:

• Modular production system involves a group of people who set their

own standards and work together to produce a finished garment.
• Usually U-shaped layout with more workplaces than operators.
• Required multiskilled workers and a small set of machines to produce
a finished garment.
• Each operator performs approximately 2-4 operations, depending on
the product.
• This system MPS is the perfect solution for the apparel manufacturer
where quick response is needed.
Conclusion:
• We can see that all sorts of production systems are available in
Bangladesh apparel industry, the use of progressive bundle system is
significantly higher than others.
• 80% of the Bangladesh garment industries are using progressive
bundle system where other are still using in sample section.
• The other industries use unit production system.
• Modular manufacturing system implemented by all industries in
sample section only.
