PRESS RELEASE, CONCERT, USA

Sponsored by Cape Cod Academy 50 Osterville/Barnstable Rd. Osterville, MA 02655 508-771-5096 capecodacademy.org

1/17/13 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shelter from the Storm concert celebrates sixth year with an International Flair!
Performers from high schools across the Cape will be joined by two international schools this year
as the Shelter from the Storm Concert turns six this February 15
th
.

More than 200 Cape Cod high school students will once again join forces to raise money to help make the
Cape a better place for everyone. This years mix of entertainment will range from dancers, drummers,
individual performers and larger bands to a band from Porto Alegre, Brazil and a young dance troop from
India. The concert is scheduled for Friday, February 15
th
at 7:00 pm in the Tilden Art Center at Cape Cod
Community College. Tickets are five dollars.

The first Shelter concert raised enough money to help feed NOAH shelter residents for four months. Last
years funds were used to hold the Capes first ever Stand Down to aid Homeless Vets. The Duffy Health
Center and Nam Vets of the Cape and Islands organized and ran the event that served more than 140 Vets
from Falmouth to Provincetown. Cape Cod Academy hosted the event last August and has generously offered
to hold the Stand Down on their campus again this year.

The Shelter project gets kids from across the Cape helping and starting conversations about the homeless Vet
situation states Larry Brown, concert organizer and Cape Cod Academy faculty member. Our organizers and
performers know they are changing lives (even saving lives) with what they do. And for in some situations, the
lives that are changed are their own.

New this year, plan to meet some of the performers Saturday, February 9
th
at the Cape Cod Mall 1:00 - 3:00
and hear some of the music they will be playing at the concert. They'll also be passing out literature and
answering questions about the veterans on Cape Cod and the programs Duffy and the Veterans' Center offer
them year-round, as well as the Stand Down program next August.

Organizations & Contact info: Cape Cod Academy is a private school, pre-K through 12 with a deep tradition
of public service. The student organizers are members of People-to-People International and the Barnstable
County Human Rights Academy.
