Q No. 1:- A smooth sphere of weight W is supported by a string fastened to a point A on the
smooth vertical wall, the other end is in contact with point B on the wall as shown in Fig.

If the length of string AC is equal to the radius of the sphere, find tension (T)in the string and
reaction of the wall.
Q No. 2:-State and prove Lami’s theorem.
Two spheres, A and B, are resting in a smooth through as shown in given figure. Draw the free
body diagrams of A and B showing all the forces acting on them, both in magnitude and
direction. Radius of spheres A and B are 250 mm and 200 mm, respectively.
Q No. 3:- Two equal heavy spheres of 50 mm radius are in equilibrium within a smooth cup of
150 mm radius. Show that the reaction between the cup of one sphere is double than that
between the two spheres.
Q No. 4:- A body, resting on a rough horizontal plane, required a pull of 180 N inclined at 30° to
the plane just to move it. It was found that a push of 220 N inclined at 30° to the plane just
moved the body. Determine the weight of the body and the coefficient of friction.
Q No. 5:- A ladder 5 meters long rests on a horizontal ground and leans against a smooth
vertical wall at an angle 70° with the horizontal. The weight of the ladder is 900 N and acts at its
middle. The ladder is at the point of sliding, when a man weighing 750N stands on a run 1.5
meter from the bottom of the ladder.
Calculate the coefficient of friction between the ladder and the floor.
Q No. 6:-A ladder of length 4 m weighing 200 N is placed against a vertical wall, as shown in
given figure. The coefficient of friction between the wall and the ladder is 0.2 and that between
the ladder and the floor is 0.3. The ladder in addition to its own weight has to support a man
weighing 600 N at a distance of 3 m from A. Calculate the minimum horizontal force to be
applied at A to prevent slipping.

Q No. 7:-What is the difference between collinear and concurrent forces?

Q No. 8:- What are the equation of equilibrium for a body in 2D space for concurrent and
non-concurrent force system?
Q No. 9:-What is meant by coefficient of static and kinetic friction? Comment on the
value of static and kinetic friction.
Q No. 10:-Block P of mass 5 kg and block Q of mass ‘m’ kg are suspended through the chord,
which is in the equilibrium position, as shown given in figure. Determine the mass of block Q.

Q No. 11:-Block A of weight 520N rest on the horizontal top of block B having weight 700 N on
shown in fig. Block A is tied to a support C by a cable at 300 horizontally. Coefficient of friction is
0.4 for all contact surface. Determine the minimum value of the horizontal force P just to move
the block B. How much the tension in the cable then?
