Workers toolbox talks


Number of tool box talks held within the month was 24 and the average number of attendee was
23. The topics discussed are as outlined.

Sanitation facilities

Toilets on construction sites must be clean, accessible, and adequate in number. They should be
gender-separated, with female toilets offering privacy and sanitary bins. Regular cleaning and
nearby handwashing stations are essential for hygiene and worker dignity. Table below shows
distribution of gender aggregated toilets. Moreover clean drinking water station are also availed
to workers.

Statutory trainings.
All required statutory trainings are scheduled to be completed by the end of June. This includes
training on occupational health and safety, first aid, fire safety, and other relevant areas to ensure
full compliance with legal and project requirements.

PPE Issuance
All workers have been issued with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including
helmets, safety boots, reflective vests, gloves, and masks. PPE issuance is documented, and
compliance is strictly enforced on-site.

Safety Appliances at the construction site.
The site is equipped with essential safety appliances including PPE (helmets, boots, vests,
gloves), fire extinguishers, first aid kits, warning signs, and handwashing stations. All equipment
is regularly inspected and maintained for effectiveness.

Workplace related incidents/accidents
To date, no major workplace-related incidents or accidents have been reported. However, we
remain vigilant and proactive in identifying and mitigating potential hazards. All minor incidents
are documented and investigated to prevent recurrence. Regular safety briefings, toolbox talks,
and inspections are conducted to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety
[Link] below outlines accidents/incidents during the reporting month.

Emergency Response and Preparedness.


As part of our Emergency Response and Preparedness measures, we have established a
collaborative agreement with Muyeye Healthcare Centre to provide immediate medical support
when necessary. Additionally, our site is equipped with fully stocked first aid kits, and we have
designated and trained first aiders on-site to ensure timely and effective response to any incidents
or injuries that may occur during project [Link] extinguishers are as tabulated.

Risks and MitigationMeasures.(Drainage)

In June, drainage activities presented various safety risks. This section


summarizes key risks observed and the mitigation measures applied to
maintain HSE compliance and ensure safety as tabulated below.

SOCIAL IMPLEMENTATION ISSUES

HIV / AIDS and COVID-19 Awareness Campaigns The Contractor is


implementing HIV/AIDS and Covid-19 Management Plan. Monthly training has been
incorporated in the Tool Box meeting and contractor will plan for sensitization on HIV/AIDS by
engaging a sub-contractor.

Gender Mainstreaming
The Contractor will ensure gender balance is achieved in employment and will aim to achieve
the 30% gender rule by prioritizing women in recruitment and reserving certain jobs for women
such as flaggers, cleaners and other soft jobs.

From the above information;

The percentage of females employed in the project is 11.36%% unlike to 30 % from the
previous monthly reporting. Contractor has put measures to ensure he absorbs more women and

Children protection.
The Contractor has undertaken measures to protect children in the project area especially when
construction activities commence.

Measures undertaken to protect children;

i. All employees have been trained on child safeguarding. This is done on a monthly
basis.
ii. All employees have signed a code of conduct against all forms of child abuse. iii. A
separate grievance logbook is available to record cases of child abuse.
iii. Flaggers have been sensitized on handling children who are residing near active work
sites and also around schools.
iv. Children crossing road signs will be provided around the schools along the road corridor
to inform motorists of children crossing.
v. There is no child labour in the project. (Minimum age required is 18 years old(adults).
vi. There was no reported case of child abuse during the [Link] Equity and Sexual
Harassment.
All Government funded projects seek to promote gender equality. The project has put in
measures towards attainment of this policy.
The Contractor is aware of 30% gender rule and has put in place measures such as;
i. The Contractor has developed gender mainstreaming plan which is under
implementation.
ii. Provision of appropriate sanitation facilities for females and males. iii.
Opportunities such as flag marshal and cleaning are reserved for females.
iv. Contractor is planning to hold training to create awareness on GBV and HIV/AIDS
protocols.
There was no reported case of GBV during the month.
Employment of Community Members/local labour
The Contractor will ensure 95% or more of unskilled and semi-skilled workers are absorbed from
within the settlements. Unskilled jobs vacancies are being advertised locally through the
Settlement Executive Committees.
