Reflection of Light - Handwritten Notes Style
➤ Reflection of Light: The phenomenon of light bouncing back
into the same medium after striking a smooth surface.
➤ Laws of Reflection:
1. The incident ray, reflected ray, and normal all lie in the same plane.
2. The angle of incidence (i) = angle of reflection (r).
➤ Important Terms:
• Incident Ray: Ray of light falling on the surface.
• Reflected Ray: Ray that bounces back.
• Normal: Perpendicular line at the point of incidence.
• Angle of Incidence (i): Angle between incident ray & normal.
• Angle of Reflection (r): Angle between reflected ray & normal.
➤ Types of Reflection:
• Regular Reflection → From smooth surfaces, produces clear image.
• Diffused Reflection → From rough surfaces, image not clear.
➤ Characteristics of Image formed by Plane Mirror:
• Virtual and erect
• Same size as the object
• Laterally inverted
• Image distance = Object distance
➤ Applications:
• Mirrors, periscopes, optical instruments, decoration, etc.
