(2) This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and
Section E. All the sections are compulsory.
(3) Section A contains sixteen MCQ of 1 mark each, Section B contains five questions of two
marks each, Section C contains seven questions of three marks each, each and Section D
contains two case study-based questions of 4 marks each. section E contains three long
questions of five marks
(4) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in section B, C
and E. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.

Q-19. The motor of an engine is rotating about its axis an angular velocity of 100 rpm. It comes to

revolutions made by it before coming to rest.

horizontal surface and pulled by a force of 60 N. Find the acceleration of the system and
tensions in the string

below. Calculate the change in momentum of the particle over the time interval from zero to
8s.

Section D(CASE BASED QUESTIONS)
Q-29.According to the principle of linear momentum, in an isolated system, the vector sum
of linear momenta of all the bodies of the system is conserved and is not affected due to their
mutual action and reaction. P = constant. Based on this principle, we are able to explain the
recoiling of a gun when a bullet is fired, flights of jet planes and rocket, Explosion on bomb
etc. in all these cases if one part of system is moving one direction then the other part move
in such a direction that total linear momentum may remain constant.
(i) A stream of water flowing horizontally with a speed of 15 m/s gushes out of a tube of
cross section area 0.01 m2 , hits at a vertical wall and rebounds with same speed. What is
force on the wall (density of water = 1000 kg / m3)

Q-30. Collision :-. The laws of momentum & energy conservation are successfully applied to
a commonly encountered phenomenon; namely – collisions. Several Work, Energy And
Power 153 games such as billiards, marble or carom involve collisions. In all types of
collisions; the linear momentum is conserved; on the other hand the total kinetic energy of the
system is not necessarily conserved. The impact & deformation during collision may generate
heat & sound. The degree of elasticity of a collision is determined by a quantity called
coefficient of restitution (e).

Q-31 (a)On an open ground, a motorist follows a track that turns to his left by an angle of 600
after every 500 m. Starting from a given turn, specify the displacement of the motorist at the
third, sixth and eighth turn. Compare the magnitude of the displacement with the total path
length covered by the motorist in each case.
(b) A bomb is dropped from an aeroplane when it is directly above a target at a height of 1000 m.The
aeroplane is moving horizontally with a speed of 500kmh−1. By the how much distance will the
bomb miss the target?

Q-31(a) A motorboat is racing towards north at 25 km/h and the water current in that region is
10 km/h in the direction of 60° east of south. Find the resultant velocity of the boat.
(b) A boy stands at 39.2 m from a building and throws a ball which just passes through a window
19.6 m above the ground. Calculate the velocity of projection of the ball.

Q-32(a)Obtain an expression for velocity and tension in the string of a body looping a
vertical circle when the body is at (i)highest (ii) lowest point.
(b)A block of mass, M = 10 kg, is placed at rest on an inclined plane and is being pulled
upward with a force F parallel to the incline as shown in the figure. The coefficient of friction
between the block and the incline is µS = 0.3. Find the magnitude and direction of the friction
force acting on the block if(a) F = 40 N
Q-33(a) Deduce the expression for work done by torque in rotating the body and hence deduce the
expression for torque.
(b)A cord of negligible mass is wound round the rim of a fly wheel of mass 20kg and radius 20cm. A
steady pull of 25N is applied on the cord as shown in Fig. The flywheel is mounted on a horizontal
axle with frictionless bearings.
(i) Compute the angular acceleration of the wheel.
(ii) Find the work done by the pull, when 2m of the cord is unwound.
(iii) Find also the kinetic energy of the wheel at this point. Assume that the wheel starts from rest.

Q-33(a) A metal bar of 70 cm long and 4 kg in mass supported on two knife edges placed 20 cm
from each end. A 6 kg load is suspended at 30 cm from on end. Find the normal reaction at the knife-
edge. (assume it to be of uniform cross section and homogeneous).
(b)Establish the relation between torque and angular acceleration. Hence define moment of
inertia.
