Food and Drink Vocabulary

Food and drink are very important parts of our daily lives. Every day, we eat different kinds
of food to stay healthy and strong. There are many types of food, but some of the most
common groups are fruits, vegetables, bread, meat, and dairy products.
Fruits are sweet and delicious. Examples include apples, bananas, oranges, mangoes, and
grapes. Fruits give us vitamins and energy. Vegetables are also very healthy.

They include carrots, spinach, potatoes, tomatoes, and cabbage. Vegetables have minerals
and fiber that help our bodywork well. Bread is a common food made from wheat or other
grains. We eat bread in many forms like white bread, whole wheat bread, and rolls. Bread
gives us carbohydrates, which give us energy for our body. Meat is another important food.
It includes chicken, beef, fish, and lamb. Meat gives us protein, which helps build muscles
and repair our body. Some people also eat eggs, which are rich in protein and other
nutrients. Dairy products are foods made from milk. Milk, cheese, yogurt, and butter are
some examples. They provide calcium, which makes our bones and teeth strong. Drinking
water and healthy drinks like milk and fruit juices are important to keep us hydrated. Some
people also drink tea or coffee. Learning the names of these foods helps us talk about what
we eat and enjoy different dishes. Knowing food vocabulary also helps when we go to
markets, restaurants, or cook at home. It is fun to learn and share our favorite foods with
friends and family.
