Demo Lesson Plan – MYP 4 Science (Biology)
Topic: Human Reproductive System
Duration: 30 minutes | Level: MYP 4 (Grade 9)
IB MYP Framing
Key Concept: Relationships
Related Concepts: Function, Development
Global Context: Identities and relationships
Statement of Inquiry: The functions and relationships within the human reproductive system contribute to
development, survival, and the continuation of life.
Inquiry Questions:
• Factual: What are the main organs of the male and female reproductive systems and what are their
functions?
• Conceptual: How do the structures of the reproductive system work together to enable reproduction?
• Debatable: Should reproductive health education be taught the same way in every culture and society?
Learning Objectives
• Identify and describe the major organs of the human reproductive system.
• Explain how the organs function together in reproduction.
• Collaborate in pairs to label and match organ functions.
• Reflect on the importance of reproduction as a characteristic of living things and its role in human health.
Lesson Flow (30 minutes)
1 1. Starter – Prior Knowledge (4 min): Ask: “What are the main characteristics of living things?” Students
recall MRS GREN. Highlight Reproduction → introduce today’s focus.
2 2. Main Activity – Diagram & Function Challenge (15 min): Students in pairs receive blank
male/female reproductive system diagrams + organ/function cards. Task: Place and match correctly.
Teacher circulates, guiding with inquiry questions.
3 3. Formative Assessment – Mini Quiz (5 min): Quick 5-question quiz on reproductive organs &
functions.
4 4. Global Connection & Reflection (3 min): Discuss why reproductive health knowledge is important
worldwide. Link to global context (health, identities, relationships).
5 5. Exit Ticket (3 min): Students complete: One new thing I learned today… / One question I still have
is…
Homework
Choose one reproductive health issue (e.g., infertility, contraception, STIs, teenage pregnancy). Write a short
paragraph explaining what it is, why it matters, and how it connects to the reproductive system.
Resources Needed
• Blank diagrams of male & female reproductive systems
• Organ/function word cards
• Mini quiz (printed or displayed)
• Exit ticket slips (or verbal sharing)
