Course Objective:
• Learn the importance of data visualization in engineering and business intelligence
for informed decision-making.
• Gain skills in importing, cleaning, and transforming data from diverse sources
using Power BI tools.
• Develop proficiency in building and formatting basic and advanced charts and
graphs to convey insights.
• Learn to combine visuals, filters, and slicers to create interactive dashboards for
dynamic data analysis.

Module I: Introduction to Data Visualization
Importance of Data Visualization in Engineering, Types of Data Visualizations

(Charts, Graphs, Maps), Introduction to Power BI and its Interface, Basics of
Business Intelligence (BI), Exploring the workspace and importing data.
Module II: Data Importing and Transformation
Importing Data from Multiple Sources (Excel, CSV, etc.), Data Cleaning and
Transformation Essentials, Using Power Query for Data Preparation, 7
Understanding Data Models and Relationships, Cleaning and transforming data
using Power Query Editor on Power BI Desktop.
Module III Creating Basic Visualizations
Building Basic Charts (Bar, Line, and Pie), Adding Filters and Slicers for Data
Manipulation, Formatting and Customizing Visuals, Visual Design Best Practices, 8
Building bar, line, and pie charts on Power BI, Adding filters and slicers to manage
data views, Enhancing visual appeal through formatting options.
Module-IV: Intermediate and Advanced Visualizations
Working with Hierarchical Visualizations (Matrix, Tree Maps), Analysing Time
Series and Trends, Using Drill-Downs for Detailed Analysis, Working with tree

maps and matrices on Power BI, Visualizing time-based data for trend analysis on
Power BI, Creating Interactive Dashboards with User Controls, Building an
Interactive Dashboard: Combining visuals and slicers for interactivity.
