Dear Parents/Guardians of P5 Students

P5 School-Based Assessment (SBA) for Terms 2 and 3 / End-Of- Year Examination (EYE)

Assessment is an integral part of the learning process and serves several purposes. In SLPS,
we aim to improve student learning, increase student motivation in learning, and provide
feedback to parents about their children’s progress in achieving learning outcomes outlined in
our curricular documents. It identifies their strengths and learning gaps so that students can take
ownership of their learning by focusing on meaningful feedback for improving content knowledge
mastery, and developing core skills, learning habits and values.

With the removal of the Mid-Year Examination (MYE) for all primary levels since 2023, we have
reviewed the school-based assessments and adjusted the assessment weighting accordingly.
This is part of on-going efforts to inculcate joy of learning in our students, and to move away from
an over-emphasis in academic grades. The SBA are bite-sized in nature and the assessment
information will be used by teachers to better support students in their learning progress. You
may wish to note that for 2025, there will be no SBA for Term 1 and details of the End-of-Year
Examination (EYE) will be disseminated later in Term 3.

Only Medical Certificates and other valid official documents are accepted for absences from
School-Based Assessment (SBA) and End-of-Year Examination (EYE). Kindly note that letters
from parents will not be accepted and there will be no make-up assessment for absentees.
Marks will not be awarded for absentees without valid documents.

If your child/ward is absent for an assessment, his/her subject teacher will pass the assessment
paper to him/her for practice. It will not be counted as a School-Based Assessment. Marks will
be pro-rated for students who submit their medical certificate (MC). A zero mark will be given for
students who are absent without a reason deemed valid by the school.

Please refer to the SBA schedule and details for Terms 2 and 3 as well as EYE schedule in
Annex A.

If you have further queries, please feel free to contact your child’s/ward’s Form Teacher.

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s/ward’s learning.
