Lesson Title: Who is He? Who is She?

(‫ َمْن ِه َي ؟‬/ ‫)َمْن ُه َو ؟‬

Target group: Arabic beginners (non-native speakers)


Duration: 60 minutes
Lesson Focus: Asking and answering questions about people using ‫( هو‬huwa) and ‫( هي‬hiya).

🧠 Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

 Ask and answer "Who is he?" and "Who is she?" in Arabic.

 Use ‫( هو‬he) and ‫( هي‬she) with basic professions and people.

 Recognize gender in Arabic through visual and linguistic cues.

🧩 Activities:

1. Warm-Up (5 mins):

 Greet students and show two pictures (one man, one woman).
 Ask: ‫ َمْن ِه َي ؟‬/ ‫ َمْن ُه َو ؟‬and model answers.

 Students repeat after teacher.

2. Vocabulary Presentation (10 mins):

 Use slides or flashcards with icons and images (doctors, teachers, students).

 Teach each word with ‫ هو‬and ‫ هي‬separately.

 Drill pronunciation (choral and individual).

3. Matching Activity (10 mins):

 Give students a worksheet (or use digital screen) with pictures of men and women with their
jobs.

 Students match:
🧑‍⚕️→ ‫ُهَو َطِبيب‬
👩‍🏫 → ‫ِهَي ُمَعِّلَمة‬

4. Role-play (10 mins):

 Pair students. One student shows a picture card, the other asks:

o Student A: shows 👨‍🏫

o Student B: says: ‫َمْن ُه َو ؟‬

o Student A: replies: ‫ُه َو ُم َع ِّلم‬

 Switch roles.

5. Guessing Game (10 mins):

 Show a hidden picture partially on the screen.

 Ask the class: ‫ َمْن ُه َو ؟‬or ‫َمْن ِه َي ؟‬

 First student to guess correctly wins a point.

6. Speaking Chain (5 mins):

 In a circle or breakout room, each student picks a character card and says:

o ‫ ُه َو َطِبيب‬or ‫ِه َي َطاِلَبة‬


 Next student continues with a different character.

🎯 Wrap-Up (5 mins):

 Quick oral review:

o Teacher: ‫َمْن ِه َي ؟‬

o Students answer: ‫ِه َي َطِبيَبة‬, etc.

 Ask for volunteer to ask the class a full question.
