ABOUT

The Seaside vest begins to be created from the down, working with two pieces (back and front).
Start with the front side – knitting up to the arm hole and make decreases. In the top of the knitting
vest make the shoulder slope with the German Rows. Do the same in the another part of shoulder.
Leave the sts open on the needle.
Work with the back side. Do the same decreases on the both side. Neck and sleeve edges are
worked in the round with circular needle to finish.
Prior to embarking on this creative journey, it's recommended to knit a swatch to ascertain if the
suggested needle size yields the desired gauge.

About increases

Note that RS is the right side and WS is the wrong side. Knitting patterns use RS (right side) and
WS (wrong side) to indicate what kind of stitch you should do for that row. For example, directions
for a stockinette stitch might look something like this: Row 1 (RS): Knit. Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Repeat this pattern until the front part of vest would be 27 cm.
Don’t forget make small cables every 6 rows and center part cable every 12 rows!
Now we start to begin to make decreases.
We need to make decreases in every 3th rows in both side of the vest.
When knitting upwards we should get 10 rows with decreases (every 3th rows)
In total 20 decreases on both sides.
Now we have 104 sts on the needle.
Continue knitting and make other decreases in both side of vest every 8 th rows.
In total 8 decreases on both sides.
Now we have 96 sts on the needle.

Neckline. Dividing the knitting into two parts.
Now we start knitting in front side of the vest. Knit 34 sts and close next 28 sts (it will be our
neckline in the future) knit another part of shoulder 34 sts.

Break the working yarn and let the sts rest while the right shoulder is being worked.

Right shoulder

Knit the same things like for a Left Shoulder.

BACK SIDE

Important! Our back part of the knitted vest should be slightly wider than the front - this is by
design. When blocking the vest at the end, our front part with the pattern will stretch a little and
both sides will be the same width.

Begin knitting the back part.

Work as follows:
Cast on 106 sts on a 2.5 mm/80/100 cm circular needle.
Work 4 rounds in 1 x 1 rib. And start working.

Knit until the back part of vest would be 27 cm.

Now we start to begin to make decreases.
We need to make decreases in every 3th rows in both side of the vest.
When knitting upwards we should get 10 rows with increases (every 3th rows)
In total 20 decreases on both sides.
Now we have 86 sts on the needle.
Continue knitting and make other decreases in both side of vest every 8 th rows.
Now we have 78 sts on the needle.

Neckline. Dividing the knitting into two parts.

Now we start knitting in back side of the vest. Knit 35 sts and close next 14 sts (it will be our
neckline in the future) knit another part of shoulder 35 sts.
Knit before our back side have 56 cm.
Neckline.
Row 1(RS): make 3 decreases and continue knitting according to the pattern
Row 2(WS): knit across without changes
Row 3(RS): make 2 decreases and continue knitting according to the pattern
Row 4(WS): knit across without changes
Row 5(RS): make 1 decreases and continue knitting according to the pattern
Row 4(WS): knit across without changes

Start shoulder bevel with knitting turns (watch diagram above)

Row 5 (RS): Knit a row according to the pattern and do not knit 4 sts to the end. Then turn the
knitting

knitting
Row 10 (WS): knit across
Row 11 (RS): Knit a row according to the pattern and do not knit 4 sts to the end. Then turn the
knitting

Connection

At the next step we need to connect the front and back parts of the knitting.
You can connect the shoulders together in any way convenient for you, I used a seamless
connection. The same with the parts on the sides of the vest - connect the two parts in any way
convenient for you using a knitting needle.

Neck edge

RS facing, pick up and knit 94 sts around the neck edge with a 2.5 mm /40/60 cm circular needle.
Work 4 rounds 1 x 1 rib.
The rate for picking up and knitting sts is 1 stitch in every stitch at the back of the neck and center
front and approx. 2 sts in every stitch/row along the sides of the neck.
Join in the round and place a marker for the beginning of the round.
Bind off all sts knit-wise.

Sleeves

RS facing, pick up and knit 124 sts around the sleeves edge with a 2.5 mm /40/80 cm circular
needle.

Work the other sleeve identically.

FINISHING
Weave in all ends and wash and block yours Seaside Vest. Blocking is important as it evens out
the knitting and makes the knitted texture stand out more.
