presenting new lesson Good morning, everyone!
 Prayer
To start our day, Let’s begin with a moment
of silence to prepare our hearts and minds
for prayer.

Class, who wants to lead the prayer? One student raising her hand.

Yes, Janelle.
Let us all stand. As we gather here today to
engage in learning and growth,
we ask for your guidance and
blessings upon our class. Grant
us clarity of mind, open hearts,
and a spirit of curiosity and
collaboration. May this time
together be fruitful and
enriching, as we seek to expand
our knowledge and
understanding. Amen.
Please take your seats.

And the word formed is? Functions

Alright, today we will be discussing about

Operations on Functions.

In this lesson, these are our targets.

May I ask a volunteer student to read the Learning Outcomes.

objectives. At the end of the lesson, you
should be able to:
1. Define operations on
functions
2. Identify the different
operations on functions
3. Perform addition,
subtraction,
multiplication, division,
and composition of
functions.

Thank you, Lexine!

C. Presenting You may be wondering, what exactly are Volunteer student will recite:
examples/instances of functions, and why do we need to perform
the new lesson operations on them? Well, let's start by I remember learning about
revisiting what functions are and then functions before. They're like
explore why operations on functions are so rules that tell us how to connect
important. inputs with outputs.

Why do we need to perform operations on Combining functions could be

functions? useful in real life. Like, if I'm
trying to figure out how much
money I'll have after buying
stuff with my allowance, I
might need to add or subtract
functions for different
expenses. It makes sense that
math can help with stuff we do
every day
Today, we're going to explore various
operations on functions, including function
composition, addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division. We'll see how
these operations work algebraically

Before we begin, let me ask you this: Can Volunteer students will share
you think of any situations in your daily life their experiences.
where you might use operations on
functions, even if you didn't realize it at the
time? Take a moment to think about it, and
feel free to share your thoughts with the
class.

Thank you everyone, indeed it is so nice to

know and interesting to think about how
math is everywhere in our lives.
D. Discussing new (Introduce the operations on functions thru
concepts and powerpoint)
practicing new skills
Given functions f and g, then for all values
of x for which both f(x) and g(x) are
defined, the function f+g, f-g, fg and f/g are
defined as follows.
1. Sum: (f+g)(x) = f(x)+g(x)
2. Difference: (f-g)(x) = f(x) – g(x)
3. Product: (fg)(x) = f(x)∙g(x)
f f (x )
4. Quotient: ( )(x) = , provided
g g (x)
g(x)≠0.

Example: Let f(x) = 2x-1 and g(x) = x²+x-2.

Find each of the following functions.
a. (f+g)(x)
b. (f-g)(x)
c. (fg)(x)
f
d. ( )(x)
g
Solution of Mia:
Who wants to answer letter b? Please use (f-g)(x) = f(x) – g(x)
your own whiteboard then discuss it to the =(2x – 1)-( x²+x-2)
class. =2x-1- x²-x+2
=-x²+2x-x-1+2
=-x²+x+1

Thank you, Mia!

Your answer is correct.

Let me continue discussing the product and

quotient.
One student automatically
Can I see thumbs up if you’re still with me. unmutes his microphone.
Gets po!

Now let’s replace the x as 3 then perform

the indicated operation.
Yes Ma’am!
Can you follow with what has been
discussed from examples?

As you notice performing operations on two

or more functions results to a new function.

(Continuation of operations on function thru

powerpoint, introduce Composition of
Functions)

The Composition of Function

Let f and g be two functions such that g(x) is
in domain of f for all x in the domain. Then,
the composition of two functions, denoted
by f ° g = f(g(x)).

Example: Let f(x) = x²+5x+6 and g(x) =

x+2. Find each of the following functions.
a. (f ° g)(x)
b. (g ° f )(x)
c. (f ° g) (4)

The functions (f ° g)(x) and (g ° f )(x) are

generally not the same as we see in the
previous example. It only means that order
of functions counts in composition of
function operation

E. Developing Group Activity.

Mastery
I posted the instructions on your google
classroom, you’ll be meeting your
respective groups with separate meeting link
in order for you to discuss the task assigned
to you.

Do as indicated.
1. Follow the instructions carefully.
2. Click your respective meeting link.
3. Discuss/Answer the activity with your groupmates.
4. Select 1 leader to lead the group, but make sure that
all of the members will contribute in doing the task.
5. Open your camera at all times.
6. Evaluate your co-members, rate them from 1 - 10
based on their contribution in task discussion. (Type
their names and scores in private comment section)
7. NOT FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
WILL HAVE A "0" SCORE.

Sample questions given.

Okay everyone please go back to virtual

classroom!

We’ll check if your answers are correct.

(done checking)

Who got 5 and above? A lot of students will raise

hand.
Good job everyone, seems like you truly
understand the lesson.

To continue with I have some questions to

you to ask.
F. Finding practical What do you think is the importance of
applications of understanding how to perform operations on
concepts in daily functions? Where do you think we can use it
living in daily life?

In what way? Budgeting and Finance

We can use it in calculating
income and expenses over time
or solving investments and
interest.
Very good!

As I’ve said a while ago as we starting the

lesson it is so nice to know and interesting
to think about how math is everywhere in
our lives.

G. Making As we end our discussion, May I ask this

generalizations and class about what you’ve learned today.
abstractions about the
lesson How do we operate functions?

What are the steps in performing the basic When we do operations on

operations on functions? functions, it’s like solving
puzzle where we rearrange
equations to find solutions. By
following rules and breaking
down complex expressions, we
can look for answers and better
understand mathematical
concepts.
Thank you for that answer, Bea!

How about the composition? How did we do (Gavin raising his hand)
the process of operating the composite of
functions?

Yes Gavin? It’s like plugging one function

into another to see happens. We
start by substituting the inside
function and the outer one, then
simplify the resulting
expression to see how functions
work together.

Good job, Gavin!

And to the whole class seems you don’t
have any questions and I believed that
you’re ready to answer the individual
activity.
