UPSC Civil Services Examination Syllabus Overview

1. Preliminary Examination (Prelims)

Paper I: General Studies (GS) - 200 marks

Subjects:

- Current Affairs (National & International)

- History of India and Indian National Movement

- Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic

- Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, etc.

- Economic and Social Development - Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics

- Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change

- General Science

Paper II: CSAT (Qualifying - 33% required) - 200 marks

Subjects:

- Comprehension

- Interpersonal Skills and Communication

- Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability

- Decision-making and Problem-solving

- Basic Numeracy (Class X level)

- Data Interpretation

2. Mains Examination (Descriptive)

Qualifying Papers:

- Paper A: Indian Language (from 8th Schedule) - 300 marks

- Paper B: English - 300 marks

Merit Papers:

- Essay Paper - 250 marks

- General Studies I: History, Culture, Geography, Society

- General Studies II: Polity, Governance, IR, Social Justice

- General Studies III: Economy, Environment, Technology, Security


UPSC Civil Services Examination Syllabus Overview

- General Studies IV: Ethics, Integrity, Aptitude

- Optional Subject (2 Papers) - 250 marks each

(Choose one from 48 subjects including Tamil Literature, History, etc.)

3. Personality Test / Interview - 275 marks

Tests candidate's personality, judgment, communication skills, current affairs awareness, and ethical thinking.
