TOOLBOX TALK CHECKLIST

The purpose of a toolbox talk is to enhance workplace safety by highlighting hazards,


reinforcing safe practices, and promoting team communication before starting work.
Please complete the following questions entering as much detail as possible:

When you decide that a particular topic requires corrective action to further manage risks,
assign these to a specific person. Note in your diary or on THIS Toolbox Meeting Checklist,
along with an appropriate time to have any actions completed by.
Discuss & review the following health & safety topics:
1. Any hazards found during your Site Review which were not being managed:

2. The hazards of your current or upcoming work/task: Use the Hazard Cards as a
memory jog & refer to the Hazard ID, Risk Management or Task Analysis Forms,
completed prior to meeting (see Safety Procedures Card).

3. The risk controls to be used to manage these hazards: Discuss how you will &/or are
controlling the risks (Eliminate or Minimise) on site. Refer to the Hazard ID, Risk
Management or Task Analysis Forms, completed prior to meeting (see Safety

4. Any accident events or near miss incidents that could have caused injury or illness:
Ensure any lessons learned are discussed with everyone working on the site. Include
incidents or events that have happened on other sites.

& ALL of its content.

6. Induction procedures: Ensure everyone has been inducted to site as per the Job,
Client & Visitor Induction Cards. Remind workers of site visitor protocols & rules
eg, stop, down tools & escort whilst on site.

7. Training & Supervision: Ensure all workers are competent to do the work or are
directly supervised by someone who is. Inexperienced workers eg. an apprentice,
volunteer or person on work experience must be supervised. Identify any training
needs required eg. heights courses, handlers licences, first aid, manual handling etc.

8. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Remind workers of the minimum workplace


PPE required eg. boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility vests etc.
Ensure PPE is in good condition & fit for purpose. Remind workers to check that
specialist PPE is certified, tagged or tested before use eg. harnesses, RCD's, leads,
electrical equipment, scissor lifts etc. Note minimum PPE in comments below.

Register & all the supporting Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Discuss the correct storage,
handling & disposal requirements, & ensure appropriate PPE is being used.
