Introduction
Dear students, as part of the course's continuous assessment, you are required to conduct
a fieldwork assignment within the university compound. The university is a melting pot
of diverse cultural, linguistic, economic, and biological groups, including individuals
with disabilities and various backgrounds. This diversity can lead to conflicts, as
marginalized groups often face exclusion due to physical, attitudinal, and institutional
barriers, resulting in increased inequality and discrimination.
To foster harmony and mutual respect among these diverse groups, it's essential to
promote inclusion addressing the needs of all individuals by enhancing their
participation in learning, employment, and community life while reducing exclusion.
Your task is to collect data from the university to respond to the following questions
aimed at understanding and improving this inclusive environment.
1. What kinds of disabilities and vulnerabilies are presented in our university?
2. What are the existing opportunities and challenges of people with disability and
vulnerabilies, in terms attitudinal; institutional, architectural, psychosocial and other
barriers?
3. As a possible engineering student thereby would be an engineer, software developer,
computer scientist, and etc.
a. What assistive device /technology will you try to discover/create to support a person
with disability of your choice?
b. What software /program will you try to discover/create to support a person with
disability of your choice?
4. List and compose with proper description of the procedures of local/indigenous conflict
resolution mechanisms.
5. Inclusion of all, regardless of disability, age, sex, , race, ethnicity, origin, religion, economic, or
other status, what is your suggestion on the big picture of the future of Ethiopia?

Methodology
You can do your assignment via:
 Observation: (You must bring your systematic observation check list)
 Interview: (brig your audio recording)
 Discussion in group: (Take picture of discussants with their consent).
 Case study: (you can interview people with disability, visit their school and
record their experience, interview their teachers, ask families….)

Elements of a field work report


The document structure we have recommended for the field-work report consists of the following,
arranged in the order indicated:
Cover Page
 This page includes the University, College, & Department name, title of the paper, course
title, course code, your name, Id. No., name of the instructor, and the date of submission. So
be sure to follow the guidelines on the assignment sheet.
Summary page
 It is always best to keep the summary to one page or less (much less, if possible). The key is
to include the minimum amount of information that it takes to communicate the essential
message of the report. Note: the cover page shall be attractive, well organized, and no
name shall be missed/written lately/written with pen/pencil.
Table of Contents
i) Introduction: briefly put the general overview of the purposes, a rationale of your
field work, indicating why your field work is important. Let the audience to gain
background information specific to the topic, define terms that may be unfamiliar to
them, explain the scope of the discussion (Maximum 1 page).
ii) Description of Activities: provide brief, step-by-step activities of what you
physically did to conduct the field work or collect the data from your participants.
In addition, you should explain the tasks of interpretations of data processes
(Maximum 1 page).
iii) Result section: it is more than a collection of data of your field work. You analyze
the data for the reader. Start paragraphs with your “take-home” message to the
reader, and then describe the data. You are required to analyze, synthesize, and
interpret the data that you gleaned(4-8 pages).
iv) Reflection (your reflection may include your observation, feelings, observation, and
practice in related to the field work topics (About 1-2 pages).
v) Conclusion The conclusion should briefly recap of the entire study, reiterating the
importance or significance of your field work. Avoid including any new
information. You should also state any recommendations you may have based on
the findings. Be sure to describe any unanticipated problems you encountered and
note the limitations of your field work. (1/2 a page) References: Here you report all
the works you have cited in your paper. The format for a references page varies by
discipline as does how you should cite your references within the paper. Use books,
journals and other credible materials. Appropriate citation (American Psychologists
Association, APA Style) needs to be carried out. Do not take information from
personal webpage and Wikipedia sources.
During writing up, put into consideration the following key points.
1. Complete your report within 15 pages (maximum), excluding cover page, table of

content, & reference page.
2. Proper citation is crucial. Zero tolerance for plagiarized work.
3. Attach this assignment instruction paper just next to the cover page of your report.
4. Do not speculate or manipulate your data to fit into your fieldwork report.
