Today we’re discussing the impressive power of artificial intelligence and

how ChatGPT can skyrocket your earnings as a remote worker.

Specifically, we’ll delve into how AI models, including generative AI like

ChatGPT, are revolutionizing the way we approach tasks by understanding
and generating human-like text.

So let’s kick things off.

ChatGPT Prompt Engineering Explained (EXAMPLES Included)

What Is Prompt Engineering?

Prompt engineering is the art of coming up with precise instructions, or
prompts, to elicit desired responses from ChatGPT. It involves prompt
engineers who specialize in fine-tuning prompts for generative AI tools,
improving AI models’ natural language processing (NLP) tasks, and utilizing
linguistic skills and creative expression.

By fine-tuning prompts, you can guide ChatGPT to generate tailored and

unique outputs, ranging from creative writing to problem-solving solutions.
Writing effective prompts is crucial for ChatGPT to yield high-quality
content, unlocking its full potential and ensuring content resonates with
both the audience and search engines.

Types of ChatGPT Prompt Engineering Techniques

There are dozens of techniques that can help you get the best responses
from ChatGPT. We’ll be looking at the three top ways.

Prompt Technique #1: Zero-Shot Prompting

Imagine asking ChatGPT a question without giving it any prior information
or examples. Zero-shot prompting allows ChatGPT to generate responses
based solely on its existing knowledge, like answering a question without any
context.

Prompt Technique #2: Few-Shot Prompting

This is similar to zero-shot prompting but with a little more guidance. With
few-shot prompting, you provide ChatGPT with a limited amount of context
or examples, helping it to better understand what you’re asking for. This
technique comes in handy when you’re asking ChatGPT to perform more
complex tasks.

Prompt Technique #3: Chain-of-Thought Prompting

This technique, a part of the broader category of prompt engineering
techniques, essentially asks ChatGPT to explain its reasoning process. By
employing chain-of-thought prompting, ChatGPT will detail the series of
steps that led to its answer.

While ChatGPT isn’t perfect and can sometimes make errors, this method
allows you to identify precisely where it may have misunderstood and adjust
your prompt accordingly for more accurate and reliable results.

The 6 Prompt Components

Crafting clear and effective prompts is crucial for harnessing the power of
AI-generated content, unlocking the full potential of ChatGPT, and
mastering reverse prompt engineering.

The perfect prompt has six essential components that ensures ChatGPT will
give you exactly what you’re looking for.

1. Task
This is what you want ChatGPT to do for you, and it’s recommended that you
always start your task with an action verb. Good examples are analyze, write,
generate, give, and so on. You have to clearly articulate what action you want
from ChatpGPT.

2. Context
This can be a bit tricky because there is an unlimited amount of information
you can give ChatGPT. However, if you want a good response, you should
keep things constrained. For the best result, consider your background, what
you want to achieve, and your environment.

For example, if you’re looking for a good diet, include your age and weight,
how much weight you want to lose, what kind of food you can buy, and any
allergies you have.

9/5/24, 3:10 PM Chat GPT Prompt Engineering Explained (+ EXAMPLES) | by Remote Money | Medium

3. Examples
These are basically examples of the results you want. For example, if you
want a poem written in Edgar Allan Poe’s style, you can provide a few poems
by him and ask ChatGPT to give you a new poem in that style. Including
examples will improve output quality because ChatGPT will use it to discover
hidden patterns in the data that even you might not have been aware of!

4. Persona
The persona is who you want ChatGPT to be for you, given the context of
your task. Think of who you’d ideally ask for advice for your question or
request. If you need to come up with an exercise plan for your overweight
dog, for example, you’d want to talk to an experienced vet.

That’s the persona you’d want ChatGPT to have for the best output. In this
example, you would basically tell ChatGPT in your prompt that it’s an
experienced and talented vet before asking it for the best doggy weight loss
diet.

5. Format
For the format, think about exactly how you want ChatGPT to generate its
response. Do you want a bullet list of instructions or a table with
comparisons? Be sure to make it clear to ChatGPT so you don’t have to waste
time re-formatting the output.

6. Tone
This is simply: How do you want ChatGPT to word the output. Should it be in
a casual tone, a formal one, or perhaps even a snarky tone? Adding this

information to your prompt will get you a more surprisingly original result
than just going with ChatGPT’s default tone of voice.

4 Examples of How to Write ChatGPT Prompts & Outputs

Let’s look at a few examples of simple ChatGPT prompts, so you can see what
works and what doesn’t. Learning to write ChatGPT prompts and write
prompts effectively is crucial for achieving better outcomes, as it allows for
creating content that resonates more deeply with both your audience and
search engines.

Example #1: Task + Format

Bad Prompt: “Tell me about cats.”

Good Prompt: “Generate a detailed paragraph describing the characteristics,

behavior, and care required for domestic cats.”

Example #2: Task + Persona + Tone

Bad Prompt: “Tell me about artificial intelligence.”

Good Prompt: “You’re a Large Language Model Expert. Can you explain the
concept of artificial intelligence like I’m five?”

Example #3: Context + Task + Format

Bad Prompt: “Give me a list of the top 10 stocks.”

Good Prompt: “I’m looking to add a media stock to my dividend investment

portfolio. Analyze the top ten performing dividend stocks in the
entertainment sector for the last quarter and give me a report with

projections for their estimated dividends over the next quarter. Generate the
output in table form.”

Example #4: Task + Tone + Context + Examples

Bad Prompt: “Help me make my Tinder match laugh.”

Good Prompt: “Compose a witty response for a Tinder message asking about
your favorite travel destination. My favorite destinations I’ve been to are
Colombia, Portugal and Thailand.”

Giving ChatGPT more precise prompts will get you better results, helping
you make the most of what it can do.

Incorporating techniques like ‘directional stimulus prompting’ and

‘generated knowledge prompting’ can significantly enhance the
effectiveness of prompts like the one provided.

By using ‘directional stimulus prompting’, we guide ChatGPT with specific

cues or keywords towards generating content that aligns with our desired
theme, such as humor in a Tinder conversation. ‘Generated knowledge
prompting’ further refines this by having ChatGPT generate relevant facts or
ideas before crafting its response, ensuring the output is both relevant and
engaging.

The role of ‘large language models’ and ‘natural language processing’ is

crucial in understanding and executing these complex prompts, as they
enable ChatGPT to process and generate responses that are not only
grammatically correct but also contextually appropriate. Crafting a

‘following prompt’ carefully is essential to guide ChatGPT’s response in the

desired direction, while also considering the security aspect.

A ‘machine learning model’ can be manipulated with malicious prompts if

not constructed carefully, highlighting the importance of thoughtful prompt
engineering.

There you have it, folks: Prompt engineering for ChatGPT explained.
ChatGPT is trained on over 300 billion words, tapping into the collective
knowledge of the internet. So yeah, the hype is real. ChatGPT can do it all,
from managing your daily work schedule to acting as your robo-wingman —
feeding you witty responses for your Tinder matches.

But most important of all, you can leverage ChatGPT to earn over $250k per
year as a Prompt Engineer — one of the hottest new jobs in tech. Not to
mention, you can earn millions of dollars in just a few keystrokes by starting
an AI startup — without even knowing how to code!

Of course, there’s a LOT more to the topic but doing that would take hours.
For instance, we haven’t discussed best practices for effective ChatGPT
prompt engineering.

This includes directing the output format and asking follow-up questions.
But for now, you should have a pretty good idea about the basics of prompt
engineering.
