HELLO? HELLO?
While these animatronics are often seen in dynamic, action-filled poses, don’t worry:
if you follow the step-by-step guides closely, you will be able to draw them in no time.
These instructions will take you from rough stick figures to fully detailed drawings of all
your favorite cast members.
Take care when drawing these characters. They don’t often look at you head-on. They like
to stand at angles. This will challenge what artists call “perspective.” It means some body
parts that are tilted away from you will look smaller than those parts that are closer to you.
This might take a bit of practice to get right, so be patient and keep trying.
Every animatronic can be broken down into simple shapes. Try warming up by sketching
rectangles, circles, cubes, and cylinders. And remember: keep your pencil lines light. That
way, it’s easy to erase any rough workings to get your drawings just right.
Smooth plain paper, a good hard black pencil, and an eraser are essential tools for getting
started. Soft black pencils are great for shading, but don’t worry if you don’t have a variety
of pencils. Just one pencil can create a huge range of tones by varying the pressure
applied. Keep a ruler and pencil sharpener on standby.
Finally, the instructions provided in this book are a guide to help you. Don’t be afraid to
experiment with the animatronics and peated them in different poses. Just don’t get too
close when night falls.
