Phoebe Buffay
The character I chose is Phoebe Buffay from the show F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I have watched this show
for some time and have always been a fan. When we started learning about psychological diseases,
I started noticing the symptoms of the disease I think she has. Even though there are many signs
and symptoms that are used to be able to distinguish this psychological disorder, some can only
portray some effects but they can still have the disease. In the show Phoebe is known as the flaky
blonde girl who has many crazy ideas and stories. This includes her trying to raise a family of rats
in a box and swings wildy to her thinking that she is being possessed by the ghost of an old woman.
In many episodes of the show you can catch her saying things
David and Goliath Analysis Essay
David and Goliath Analysis In the story David and Goliath there is a great lesson to be learned.
The story shows that you should never underestimate your opponent and be prepared for
anything. David s own intellect and knowledge of his own abilities enabled him to become the
smaller, but stronger opponent. It all comes down to who is the better leader. David was a young
shepherd boy who watched over the sheep while feeding and keeping them safe from the lions
and bears. While watching the sheep David would spend many moments speaking to God and
playing a harp. David s brothers were at the battlefield and one day he was sent to the battle lines by
his father to bring back news of his brothers. (Fairchild, 2012) David was not afraid... Show more

Goliath laughs at the size of David while David is confident with God by his side. David then
uses his sling shot to launch a stone at Goliath s head which knocks him down on his face. The
giant fell allowing David to take his sword and behead Goliath with it. David took advantage of
Goliaths mistakes. He underestimated David s ability and failed to move out of the way of the
rock. If you are prepared for all obstacles and keep an open mind you are more likely to come out
victorious. David s own intellect and knowledge of his own abilities made Goliath the smaller,
but stronger opponent. This story can be related to the difference between WW1 and WW2.
During WW1 trench warfare was used. Trench warfare is a ditch dug out of the ground to give
troops protection from the enemies. The soldiers used machine guns, mustard and chlorine gases
and smokeless gunpowder to ward off the enemy. Machine guns were the main weapons used by
soldiers. However they needed 4 6 men to man them (Tasker, 2012) and had to be positioned on a
flat surfaces. When the mustard and chlorine gases were released the soldiers had to take great
precaution to not breathe it in because the result is immediate death. These trenches also carried
many diseases and rats making it a harsh condition for soldiers. By the time of WW2 also known as
the Cold War the atomic bomb was invented. The atomic bomb has the ability to take out an entire
city. Russia and the U.S. achieve nuclear equality
The World s Post-Apocalypse
Post Apocalypse refers to the era following a significant catastrophic event or an utter collapse of
a great empire or civilization; ultimately, the struggle for power never ends and war never
changes. That being the case, Fallout 4 could be regarded as an exemplary exemplification of this
genre because it is classified as a post apocalyptic survival videogame that thoroughly illustrates the
formation of the hazardous environment known as the Wasteland after the total annihilation of
United States of America caused by a nuclear apocalypse. First of all, there are three major eras in
the history of the Wasteland: the Pre War era, The Great War, and the Post War. The Pre war era
refers to the time of the American dream before the nuclear catastrophe,... Show more content on

Moreover, it is an undeniable fact that any law and order diminishes following the collapse of
civilization. Under this circumstance, it is clear that the Wasteland is ruled by anarchy and chaos.
To illustrate, there are post modern anarchists known as the Raiders. They are known as the
savages and barbarians of the Wasteland who pillage small farming communities, rape, torture, and
murder the settlers of those communities. The only people who stand up against the raiders are the
Commonwealth Minutemen, a post war patriot organization consisted of volunteers who strive to
liberate and protect small communities from various threats as well as the desire to rebuild the
annihilated nation. Even though the wasteland is under anarchy and chaos, the nuclear apocalypse
never ended the war in the post war era. There are large organizations, newly formed republics, and
gangs who are waging a war to seize territory and a control over the wasteland. For example, the
Brotherhood of Steel is an organization of Knights whose main focus is obtaining control over the
land and seize all technology
The Canadian Pacific Railway ( Cpr )
The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), officially founded in 1881, marked a significant milestone
in Canadian history. At the time it was legitimately formed, no one could have ever imagined the
evolution and progression that it has made to present day. Over the past 150 years, the CPR has
underwent and endured its fair share of sacrifices. However, there are countless reasons why the
CPR should be viewed, remembered, and revered as a successful project. Throughout this essay,
numerous topics, from the origins of the railway s formation to its relevance and continued
influence during present day, will be illustrated and examined in great detail, as well as why the
project itself was an overall success. First and foremost, the idea of having a railway built throughout
Canadawas already in existence long before 1881. However, it was not until Confederation was
passed on July 1, 1867 when [The railway s] realization was found to be a political necessity
(Leary, 5). In other words, Confederation did not just mark the date in history where the federal
Dominion of Canada was born, but, it had also opened the doors necessary to make the project a
reality. Clearly, there was much more to Confederation than met the eye, and as part of the deal,
Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were promised a railway to link them with the two Central
Canadian provinces Quebec and Ontario(Canadian Pacific). By 1871, Manitoba and British
Columbia had also joined the Confederation. At this point,
Can the Subaltern Speak Summary
Can the Subaltern Speak? Summary Gayatri Spivak Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is an unsettling
voice in literary theory and especially, postcolonial studies. She has describes herself as a practical
deconstructionist feminist Marxist and as a gadfly . She uses deconstruction to examine how truth is
constructed and to deploy the assertions of one intellectual and political position (such as Marxism)
to interrupt or bring into crisis another (feminism, for example). In her work, she combines
passionate denunciations of the harm done to women, non Europeans, and the poor by the privileged
West with a persistent questioning of the grounds on which radical critique takes its stand. Her
continual interrogation of assumptions can make... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As poststructuralism would have it, human consciousness is constructed discursively. Our
subjectivity is constructed by the shifting discourses of power which endlessly speak through us,
situating us here and there in particular positions and relations. In these terms we are not the
authors of ourselves. We do not construct our identities, we have it written for us; the subject
cannot be sovereign over the construction of selfhood. Instead the subject is decentered, in that its
consciousness is always being constructed from positions outside of itself. It follows then that the
individual is not a transparent representation of the self but an effect of discourse. Spivak argues
that surprisingly for these figures, when Foucault and Deleuze talks about oppressed groups such
as the working classes they fall back into precisely these uncritical notions of sovereign subjects by
restoring to them a fully centred consciousness. In addition they also assume that the writing of
intellectuals such as themselves can serve as a transparent medium through which the voices of the
oppressed can be represented. The intellectual is cast as a reliable mediator for the voices of the
oppressed, a mothpiece through which the oppressed can clearly speak. Spivak articulates her
reasons for her worries in the first part of the essay, applying MICHEL FOUCAULT s understanding
of epistemic violence to the remotely orchestrated, far flung, and heterogeneous project to
Starbucks in 2012 Essay
Tiffin University MGT 624 Industry and Competitive Analysis Starbucks in 2012 Dr. Bradly E.
Roh Smart Osadolor Starbucks Corporation Starbucks founded in 1987 as a modest nine store
operation in Seattle, Washington and quickly became the premier roaster and retailer of specialty
coffees in the world with over 17,400 store locations in more than 55 countries (Thompson,
Peteraf, Gamble, Strickland, 2014). The company first got its start in 1971 when three academics
all decided upon opening a coffee store in touristy Pikes Place Market in Seattle. The three
academics; Jerry Baldwin an English teacher, Zev Siegel a History teacher and Gordon Bowker a
writer were all coffee aficionados (Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, ... Show more content on

This case study focuses on Starbucks, with respect to human capital and resources in the pursuit of
strategy implementation. There will be an analysis of how effectively the company implemented its
turnaround strategy and how effectively Starbucks utilized human capital to implement its strategy.
In conclusion of this paper, there will be recommendations for effectiveness in future
implementations at Starbucks. Implementation of Starbuck s Turnaround Strategy The return of
Schultz saw him focus on three different themes; strengthen the core, elevate the experience and
lastly, invest and grow. The implementation included various strategies which involved; slowing the
pace of opening new stores, closing underperforming stores, restructuring the company s store
operations in Australia, creating new designs for future Starbucks stores globally, enhancing the
customer experience, providing additional resources and tools for employees, undertaking a rigorous
cost containment program, and renewing attention to employee training and reigniting enthusiasm
on the part of employees to customer. The case tells us that 800 underperforming stores in the United
States and 100 additional stores in other countries were closed. The company even trimmed its
workforce by about 6,700 employees. From further analysis it was clear to see that Schultz s
investment in growth played a huge part in the turnaround. The company implemented this
Innovation Assumptions
.Break Even Analysis and 12 Month Projection Strategic Management Body: Both the break even
and 12 month projection spreadsheets were created using a combination of existing corporate data
and a number of reasonable adjustments and assumptions. There is presently no publically
available financial information regarding the innovation, so it is impossible to accurately know
the product s exact cost structure or even its expected sale price per unit. Therefore, the choice
was made to make reasonable assumptions using publically available corporate financial data as a
starting point. The primary source for that was data thus obtained from the company s 2013 10 K
filing (Harley Davidson, Inc. February 24, 2014 Harley Davidson 2013... Show more content on

A first year sales volume of 5,000 units is assumed. Restructuring Costs had a direct effect on net
income for the three previous fiscal years and according to the 10 K there will be additional
impact going forward (Harley Davidson, Inc. Form 10 K, page 26). These costs do not have a
direct impact in the new product s direct production costs nor do they impact a viability evaluation,
therefore this line item is excluded in both spreadsheets. Despite the certainty that the innovation
would comprise a small portion of sales at best, Advertising Expense is projected at a level
consistent with historical operations. There are a number of reasons for this. An electric motorcycle
is a fairly new idea in the motorcycle industry, other smaller companies with similar products are
now competing more anticipated market share and given the Company s advantages in scale and
brand recognition it can choose to comfortably allocate more resources to marketing and may take
advantage of these facts, the Company has already announced and initiated a nationwide marketing
campaign where it is allowing interested consumers to test a fleet of preproduction models, and has
already stated its intention to continue the program in Canada and Europe in 2015, and an electronic
motorcycle by its nature will not be attractive to 100% of existing motorcycle consumers given its
obvious difference in
Who Is Cornelia Funke
Presentation Discussion: Reflection on Researching for an Author History Cornelia Funke is by
far one of the most accessible authors I have ever encountered. In a time of social media and
instant gratification, she is ever inclined to remain connected with her audience. In thanks to
Funke s open nature, research was quite manageable. Between her website, her own involvement
with answering fan inquiries on the website, GoodReads, as well as an abundance of interviews, I
can see another reason why it may be relevant to consider her the German J.K Rowling, though I
do prefer to think of her as her own entity of greatness without the comparisons. My approach was
to look at Funke through the lens of The Thief Lord and then use the same tactic inversely in order
to analyze how she places piece of herself into her characters. What was of particular interest to me
was how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helped to build a relationship between myself and the author from which I gained a greater
appreciation for the text. It also gave me the idea that children should be able to do the same. It is
incredibly fulfilling to put a personal spin on the sort of the authoritative sense we get from a
writer when we are reading their work, that we only have their words to go off of, but in this day
and age, it is clear that we can look up information and even communicate from anywhere at any
time and this is empowering. If children have access to research engines, they can personalize and
contextualize the books they reads, which thankfully authors like Funke encourage. My own
research was based on the idea that I wanted to instill this power in my classmates as a means to not
only see The Thief Lord in a new and or different light, but also that they would see the importance
of vesting their students to do the
Differences In The Emotional Lives Of Animals
In this course, I discovered many new things and expanded my knowledge as I learned about
animal emotions, their representation in the media, their moral status and more. When reflecting
back over the wide array of topics covered in the course, there were two areas that resonated
strongly for me and made me reconsider my own views. The first was the discussion of the
hierarchy of animal rankings and how that affects their treatment. The second was the exploration of
the capacity animals have to feel emotions and their anatomical similarities to humans. In the
following paragraphs I will reflect on these two areas of the course, current opinions related the each
area and why they had such a profound impact on me.
All animals share the same basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Animals may experience different emotions and express their emotions differently however
differences between emotions in animals, humans and non human animals, are by degree and not
kind, as argued by Darwin (Bekoff, 2000). Despite these commonalities, humans do not treat all
animals equally, for example in most cases a mouse does not receive the same treatment and care as a
dog. In this way, humans rank animals and modify treatment towards them based on these rankings.
Mark Bekoff in the Emotional Lives of Animals discusses this dualistic viewpoint and how our
treatment of animals depends on context and the type of animal (Bekoff, 2007). He uses the example
of scientists and their treatment of the animals they keep at home versus the animals that are kept in
the lab to explain this dichotomy; scientists will perform experiments on the animals kept in the lab
but not the animals at home. This is directly applicable to me because I am a science student and am
therefore constantly surrounded by research and literature that involves the use of laboratory
animals. I previously put little thought to the use of a laboratory rat or mouse in
