Sumerian s Influence On The Pyramids Of Ancient Egypt
Many people recognize the pyramids of Egypt as some of the greatest treasures of the old world. But
most people don t wonder where the ancient Egyptians got the idea from. There were many cultures
and civilizations before Egypt that could ve influenced the idea of massive pyramids, but most think
that one civilization in particular, the Sumerians, had the most influence on the pyramids that stand
today, because of their pyramidlike ziggurats. The Egyptians probably did base the pyramids off of
the Sumerian ziggurats, because they had the same basic structure, the ancient Sumerians had lots of
influence on Egyptat the time, and they both displayed the same symbols and meanings for their
people. Everyone knows what the pyramids look like but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were also influenced by Sumerian religion and the purpose of the Sumerian ziggurats. While
using the idea of the physical structure of a ziggurat, the Egyptians also used it for their gods.
Although the pyramid was used as a tomb and the ziggurat was used as a temple; both dealt with
their gods and the afterlife. As I.E.S Edwards wrote, Pyramids were built for several kings and
queens of the subsequent dynasties, but they were in the nature of archaisms, lacking not only much
of the architectural splendour of their predecessors, but also some of their religious significance.
(Edwards, 16). No other culture influence the Egyptians more than the Sumerians. They even re
invented the Sumerian s writing system into hieroglyphics (www,egyptorigins.org). As H.S Smith
quoted, Current preoccupation (with rejection of foreign invaders) have led, in my view, to undue
neglect of the nature of the influence of Susa and Sumer upon Upper Egypt and Lower Nubia in the
Naqada IId IIIb period. (www.egyptorigins.org). All of the evidence of Sumerian influence all
together point to the idea that the ancient pyramids were greatly influenced by the Sumerian
Gulliver s Travels By Jonathan Swift
Gulliver s Travels, a satire by Jonathan Swift, highlights various aspects of English society, of its
time period, through Gulliver s voyages and exposure to different cultures. On the surface, this
satire is simply a fairy tale, but with observation, Swift s satirical comments can be easily
identified and related to his society and even today s American; such comments are criticizing
aspects of society. These aspects include the struggle between those in powerful versus common
man, corruption, and the true inner of honorable people One topic that this piece focuses on is
the struggle between empowered men and unfortunate men. Gulliver arrives onto the floating
island of Laputa which is filled with strange people who fail to make practical use of their
knowledge. These people do have a king and Gulliver soon discovers that he is a tyrant. Below the
island, is a region known as Balnibarbi which is in total control by the king. As a matter of fact, the
king punishes any town in the region for their disobedience using two methods. If any town should
engage in rebellion or mutiny, fall into violent factions, or refuse to pay the usual tribute, the king
has two methods of reducing them to obedience (Swift #). These punishments include covering the
town from above, or, in extreme cases, dropping the island on the town itself. The first and the
mildest course is, by keeping the island hovering over such a town, and the lands about it, whereby
he can deprive them of the benefit
New Zealand s Brand And Marketing Campaign Essay
AbstractI chose New Zealand as I would like to go there. 100% Pure New Zealand has been the
country s brand for a decade and it accurately describes the beauty of the country, which successfully
attracts eco conscious and adventurous tourists. The mountain formations, volcanoes, un spoiled rain
forests, and the coastal areas are the primary attractions. Tourism produces $10.3 billion or 15.3% of
New Zealands foreign exchange earnings and is their biggest export industry. The top three tourist
dollar contributors, in order: Australia ~ $2.3 B, China ~ $1.2 B, USA ~ $900 M. FutureBrand s
Country Brand Index ranks New Zealand as # 11. These results demonstrate the success of the
brand and marketing campaign. Predominantly using Google Earth and searching the Internet, I
learned that it is located in Oceana around Lat: 43°31 55.40 S, Lon: 172°38 10.41 , with average
temperatures ranging from the 50 s to the mid 70 s Fahrenheit. The colliding Australian and Pacific
plates create the unique features of the Islands. The climate and fertile lands made these islands
ripe for settlement. Prior to the arrival of the European settlers around 1800, the first settlers, the
Māori, had lived on the islands for approximately 1000 years. It is believed that the Māori
descended from the Polynesians. (http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/maori/page 2). By the mid 1800 s,
European settlers and the Māori were engaged in wars over resources and territorial rule. The Māori

Antidepressants Vs Medication Paper
While medication may be taken worldwide and is much more commonly used for depression, it isn t
always the best solution. Causing potential problems such as nausea, headaches, insomnia and even
increased suicide rate. In comparison, therapy allows connection, interaction, someone to trust, and
overall monitoring of the patient s progress. Which option is more beneficial to the patients?
Medication or therapy? The research done will help determine that option. This option will be very
beneficial to a growing community around the world. This research project aims to explore the risk
of overdosing when treating depression with antidepressants. Taking medication while being
diagnosed with depression although may be helpful, it can be dangerous and life threatening.... Show

The questions that are hoped to be answer by the end of this research are the following: what are the
chances of overdosing while taking antidepressants? Is therapy more efficient than medication when
treating patients that have been diagnosed with depression? What causes chemical imbalances?
When can therapy or medication become the best option for treatment for depression? Where is the
best place to get therapy or a prescription for depression? Who can help patients get better? How can
therapy be more useful and more helpful than medication? Why are there not any more options for
mental illnesses? Would doctors admit to their preferences of treatment when dealing with patients
that have been diagnosed with depression? Could medication lead to suicide for depression diagnosed
patients? Should medication be treated as the first option for treatment against

Al Capone The infamous gangster Al Capone, once said, I am like any other man. All I do is
supply a demand. ( Al Capone quotes. brainyquote.com. 2017. Web. 26 Mar, 2017.) Al Capone was
one of the most ruthless and successful gangsters of all time. He spent most of his life running
organized crime rings and killing off rivals. Al Capone s life is one filled with an unexpected
childhood, an incredible rise to power, a successful career, a bloody massacre, and an epic
downfall. Capone s childhood was a typical one no one would expect from a terrible gangster.
Capone was born on January 17, 1899, in Brooklyn, New York to Italian immigrant parents. ( Al

Hamlets Attitudes Towards Death In William Shakespeare s...
In a following speech Hamlet s disposition towards the world persists, yet his attitude towards death
has undergone a transformation. Previously, Hamlet was quick to proclaim his desire to die, but by
the third act he s become uncertain. This hesitation becomes apparent in Hamlet s To be or not to be
speech (3.1.56 90). With those opening words, Hamletdebates whether he should exist or not. The
fact that this is still a question for him shows that he continues to be displeased with life. Hamlet
asks himself, Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them? To die to sleep. This reveals a
new concern that Hamlet has, he doesn t ask what is best for him to do, but rather what is nobler,
which makes it apparent that he s concerned with maintaining his character. Even though he
maintains the desire to escape the world and the experience in it, he still cares about the image that
he leaves behind. Subsequently, Hamlet uses war like diction, comparing life to war with slings and
arrows which makes life intolerable. This just reaffirms the ideas Hamlet has had throughout the
play, however, a shift transpires when he mulls over the idea that deathis like being asleep. A
problem arises when he realizes that even when you sleep you experience, To sleep; perchance to
dream: Ay, there s the rub. This could be easily misinterpreted as Hamlet hoping to dream, but
perchance
The Capital Asset Pricing Model
From the very time of its development, there have been many attempts to prove the validity of the
Capital Asset Pricing Model. For instance, Black, Jensen and Scholes (1972) performed a test to
check if securities are priced accordingly to their systematic risk. In order to test the theory that there
was a positive linear relation between the expected return and beta, instead of the individual stock,
they used monthly return data and portfolios. They obtained ten portfolios of monthly returns for 35
years and ranked them by risk securities, from the highest to the lowest. This sorting technique is
now regularly used in empirical checks. They discovered that the intercepts α were regularly
negative for the high risk portfolios and always... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He formulated an opinion that such proxy, when used to calculate return on the market, cannot
guarantee to be mean variance efficient.
The evidence gained from examination done by Nimal and Fernando (2013) concerning Tokyo Stock
Exchange (TSE) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) confirmed not only that beta is a useful
tool in expanding deviations in market premium, but also that there is a relation between return and
beta. However, the previous research done in the Japanese market by Yonezawa and Hin, (1992) did
not confirm the validity of the CAPM. In their research, they checked monthly returns from January
1952 to December 1986 and concluded that limited diversification was the main cause of CAPM
failure.
Pettengill et al. (1995) suggested a new method for testing the relation between return and beta.
They established a conditional model which anticipates whether the risk premium on the market
index is positive or negative. When the excess return on the market index is positive there should
also be a positive relationship between beta and return, and when the risk premium is negative and
return also negatively connected. It is based on a fact that high beta stocks are very likely to be
more sensitive to the negative risk premium and even have a lower return than low beta stocks. Their
research conducted on the US market confirmed that there is a positive relation between betas and
returns.
The same conclusions were
Medieval Chivalry And Le Morte DArthur
The interest for medieval romantics came about in Early Modern Europe; this was known as the
Romantic Period. This period consisted of a literary movement which produced many artistic
works that were thought to have a historical basis. Two of these works were Le Morte d Arthur,
by Sir Thomas Malory, and The Lady of Shalott, by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Although the works Le
Morte d Arthur and The Lady of Shalott convey differences in chivalric codes, they share
similarities in the view of death through the disheartening language used to project a tragedy as
well as the foreshadowing elements from the main character s predestined fate. Chivalry is a
medieval system that guided men to be honorable in faith, deeds, and social interactions. Many
great men follow chivalric codes to contribute to their actions and what they are expected to
achieve. In Le Morte d Arthur, it reveals chivalric codes such as loyalty and faith in God
throughout the story. Many of the knights in this story are loyal to the king by displaying
selflessness and serving him in battle after he dies. Moreover, the excerpt reveals faith in God
through King Arthur seeming to be alive in another place with the Lord Jesus rather than dead. Yet
some men say in many parts of England that King Arthur is not dead, but carried by the will of our
Lord Jesus into another place; and men say that he shall come again, and he shall win the Holy
Cross (Malory 100). In The Lady of Shalott, Tennyson presents the chivalric
Cheerleading Is A Sport
Some play, others cheer. This formula has remained for decades in many sports such as soccer and
football, in which cheerleaders are represented as bimbos animating the game and entertaining the
crowd. Cheerleading is a regrouping of three sports: dancing, stunt and gymnastics, yet most people
do not believe it is a sport. But what exactly makes something an activity, a hobby, a sport?
According to the Association of CheerleadingCoaches and Advisors, a sport is a physical activity
or a competition against an opponent, governed by rules and conditions in which a winner is
declared and the main purpose of the competition is a comparison of skills . This discipline
originated in the United States over a century ago . It started around the franchises of footballand
basketball, but already began in the 30 s of the last century to become an independent sport and to
separate from the entertainment. The competitive cheerleading is different from the animation that
is usually seen in professional sports. The teams are valued for the skill they demonstrate in their
choreography, in which they perform somersaults, pyramids, jumps and different types of
acrobatics. There are different modalities and the execution combines elements of courage, physical
exigency and, sometimes, risk. There is no way that anyone could be a cheerleader if they are not
athletically prepared. Cheerleaders are required to lift girls their weight or even heavier, to lift, spin,
jump and lay
My Personal Action Plan For 2017
Included in my Personal Action Plan for 2017 are several goals that I need to achieve in order to
reach my long term personal objectives. They include, earning a promotion to Vice President,
saving $3.5 million for retirement, maintaining my health, and attaining an MBA degree. All four
long term objectives are specific, relevant to me, in line with my life goals, and time bound. Most
importantly, they are attainable, so I can set new goals once these are met. Furthermore, I am
cognizant of the temporal and financial resources required to achieve each objective and I am
prepared to sacrifice other lower priority activities and goals to achieve my objectives (MindTools,
2016).
Tactics for achieving short term objectives
To achieve short term objectives, it is important to create goals that are specific, measurable or
meaningful, attainable, relevant, and time bound. These are also known as SMART goals. Each
SMART goal is be expressed in positive terms, for example, Maintain a healthy weight of 176 lbs
, instead of I do not want to be overweight . Not all goals are achievable concurrently. Therefore,
the prioritization of goals is often necessary. For example, attaining an MBA degree is a major
commitment of time and financial resources. As such, I plan to complete my IT certifications
before I pursue an MBA degree. Goals should be written down, which gives them relevance and
makes them easy to reference and maintain. I plan to update my goals regularly to
Myocardial Infarction Of An Acute Infarction
In the United Kingdom (UK) 69,163 individuals died of an Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) in
2014 (BHF 2015). 915,000 people are estimated to be living with a myocardial infarction (MI)
(BHF 2015). Studies from the Heart Research Institute UK (HRIUK) have also found that
someone dies in the (UK) every six minutes of an ST segment elevation myocardial infarction
(STEMI) and that one in three passes away before reaching hospital About heart disease (Heart
Research Institute UK, 2010) Smoking, drinking alcohol to excess coupled with a diet of junk
food and lack of exercise all contribute to susceptibility of having an STEMI (WHO,2014).
Research from the Myocardial Infarction National Audit Project (MINAP) shows that there is
over an 8% 30 day mortality rate for patients admitted with a preliminary diagnosis of (STEMI) in
the United Kingdom (UK) (Gavalovar and Weston, 2014) In this critical reflection, I am going to
discuss a case based on a 70 year old male who had suffered an acute STEMI. I will be critiquing
our patient journey from the first aspirin after our initial patient assessment through to thrombolysis
if required onto PPCI, with the gold standard treatment for an STEMI being a PPCI (Andrew
Whittaker, 2013). I will also be discussing any new treatments available for paramedic practice in the
future. The Health Care and Profession Council (HCPC, 2014) states that a patient must first give
consent for treatment, effective communication is key in gaining this
Churchill and Roosevelt s Speeches Attempted to Bring Hope...
In Winston Churchill s speech blood, toil, tears, and sweat , and in Franklin D. Roosevelt s The
Great Arsenal of Democracy , there are many different rhetorical devices and they use them to build
an effective argument. Both speeches were written and spoken at different times and different events
were going on when the speeches were made, but both speeches are similar in the way that they are
constructed and by the devices used in both. In their speeches both Churchill and Roosevelt tried to
bring hope to the people during the hard times that the country was going through. Winston Churchill
delivered his speech on May 13, 1940, three days after he became prime minister. In Churchill s
speech he wanted to connect with the audience on an emotional level, so he uses many different
examples of the rhetorical device pathos. For example, Churchill s famous quote I have nothing
to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat . By saying this, he wants the people to know that, he will
give all that he has and he will give as much effort as he can and that s all that he can offer them.
Another example of pathos in the speech is when Churchill said, We have before us many, many
long months of struggle and of suffering . By saying this, Churchill uses terms such as us , struggle
, and suffering to get to the people and to show that the war cabinet crisis wouldn t be an easy thing
to get though out of the rhetorical devices ethos, pathos, and logos, Churchill uses pathos more

15.1.8 CIA Demonstration: Weighing on an Analytical Balance

After you watch the above video, answer the questions below in sufficient detail:

(a) (2 pts) What are the features of an electronic balance? Include all of those discussed in the video.

Answer: There were two features of an electronic balance discussed in this video. First there is the
electronic read out which makes the measurement very accurate and the tare feature which can reset
the balance to zero when something such as a container is still on the balance (Yee, n.d., Weighing...).

How and why does it work? Be clear and specific.

Answer: Distillation is a method for separating a liquid from a solid or from another liquid in
which the liquid is boiled off and then recondensed (Yee, n.d., Distilliation). It works because the
substance you are looking to distill is boiled off recondensed and separated. It can be used to purify
liquids from solids or from other liquids (Yee, n.d., Distillation).

(b) (2 pts) Describe the apparatus and setup for a distillation. Include all components.

Answer: The distillation apparatus consists of a round bottom flask connected through an adapter to
a condenser, which is connected through another adapter to a second round bottom flask (Yee, n.d.,
Distillation). There is a thermometer connected through the thermometer adapter at the top (Yee,
n.d., Distillation). There is also a vacuum adapter and a heating mantle. The heating mantle is a coil
which heats through electrical resistance (Yee, n.d., Distillation). You use cold water and make sure
that it goes in through the bottom and out through the top (Yee, n.d., Distillation).

(c) (2 pts) Imagine that you wanted to perform a distillation at your own home (remember,
distillation as a technique is not illegal it is only illegal if you use it to produce alcohol), but you
did not have the fancy lab equipment that you saw in the video. How could you do it? How could
you improvise in terms of equipment? Explain the entire setup in detail and how the
Gender Roles In A Handmaid s Tale
A handmaid s Tale displays a society in which gender roles and functions in society are strictly
controlled and determined by those in power. Female sexuality, reproduction, and masculinity is
present throughout the book and has an interesting parallel to our current society and where we are
moving towards. The story and the epilogue reminds us of the fragile nature of our rights and
freedoms and how easily they can be stripped away and how much we rely on the people in power.
