Jerusalem
Throughout comedy the emphasis is on human limitations rather than on human greatness (John
Morreal Comedy Tragedy and Religion). To what extent does Jez Butterworth focus on human
weakness and ineptitude in his play Jerusalem ?
Jez Butterworth s Jerusalem creates a comic vision focusing on the ambiguities, turmoil and
hypocrisies of the society presented on stage. Butterworth focuses on the characters degeneracies in
which the form of humour tends to be the exposure of their unruly behaviour and their reluctance to
conform to social norms. The most basic difference between comedy and tragedy lies in its central
characters, who are not heroes, and often, as with Shakespeare s Falstaff, are anti heroic The key

He seems to be mystified by his own outrageous nature which more often than not render him
helpless and lowly. It s the teenagers who tell him how, when drunk, he has at various stages

these stories is bewilderment I d never do that and that s a mystery which offer a complete lack of
power and knowledge that he so clearly tries to maintain and a slight bit of vulnerability on his part.
Johnny s weaknesses and ineptitude seem to be masked by wit and extensive stories but he is one of
the main offenders for being affected by their own limitations even if his are subtle. Therefore,
through his characterisation of Rooster, Butterworth does emphasise and focus on Johnny s
limitations by either exploiting his vulnerability or using a community of opinions to degrade him.
On the other hand, Johnny s greatness is also a focal point within the play. Twenty years back,

Sociological Analysis Of Concrete Angel
Sociology Analysis over Concrete Angel
Zachary Gosnell
Southeast Missouri State University
SO 102 October 12, 2017
Abstract
The lyrics of Concrete Angel has meaning to it. The lyrics focus on child abuse. Child abuse is a
problem that may children all over the world face. Child abuse can be in the form of verbal and/or
physical abuse, bullying, and so on. The lyrics shows us how the obvious signs of abuse can be
seen but bystanders choose to ignore what is going on. The lyrics of Concrete Angel relates to
sociology in many ways. The lyrics relate to three perspectives of sociology. Those perspectives are
conflict, interactionism, and functionalism. The main focus of this paper is the characterization
portraying the societal issue of child abuse.
Introduction
The song I chose to do my analysis on is Concrete Angel written by Stephanie Kay Bentley and
Rob Crosby and sung by Martina McBride. I felt the song has meaning and I would be able to
analysis it. The message of the song exudes to it listener to child abuse, or any relating form of
abuse. The lyrics talk about how victims of abuse show obvious signs of physical or mental harm
that bystanders choose to ignore. Concrete Angel is about a little girl who is trapped in a life of
turmoil. The song describes her short innocent life. Her life is lived in vein as neglect and abuse
plagues her. The adults around her seem to be aware of her anguish but like most people they chose
to not get
Child Soldiers
Child Soldiers for War Crimes
Child soldiers. Most can not fathom the idea of children in war, less the fact that those children are
fighting. It is a terrible thought to have to think about, especially when America now has the power
to help and has been reluctant to use it. None the less, though, children from ages 10 and up are
being recruited for war. Under international law, the participation of children under 18 in armed
conflict is generally prohibited, and the recruitment and use of children under 15 is a war crime. Yet
worldwide, hundreds of thousands of children are recruited into government armed forces,
paramilitaries, civil militia and a variety of other armed groups. Often they are abducted at school,
on the streets or at home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actions of the child soldiers usually are not decided by the child, but rather by a general or
commander. When the child is told to do something they succumb and act on the plan because they
are still children. As an adult, though, soldiers have the state of mind to evaluate the situation, and
decide what would be best for their country; and them. Child soldiers are raised in an environment of
severe violence, experience it, and subsequently often commit cruelties and atrocities of the worst
kind. This repeated exposure to chronic and traumatic stress during development leaves the children
with mental and related physical ill health, notably PTSD and severe personality changes. Such
exposure also deprives the child from a normal and healthy development into society as a fully
functioning member. Pertinent Laws of War anonymously state that the enlistment, recruitment, use,
and/or deployment of child soldiers under the age of 15 are actions that are war crimes according to
the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the 1998 Rome Statute of the International
Criminal Court. These two guiding, international instruments have even been advanced by the
Convention of the Rights of the Child, which states a straight 18 approach to recruitment in the 2002
Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The 1990 African Charter on the

Poe and Morrison Transformed Jalopies into Hot Rods
The subconscious is said to control various aspects of the life of a human to include major and
minor decisions alike; whether to follow the path carved out so cautiously by others or to forge a
unique path and travel it fiercely with reckless abandon and ambition guided by extreme
individuality. What is this perplexing, intangible thing we call the subconscious? And what role does
it play in the writing process of a poet? In general, when given the task of defining the subconscious,
the initial impulse is to provide an ordinary idea such as, one s natural instinct that lies beneath the
actively aware mind and its intentional thoughts ; however, what if the subconscious is something
more? What if the subconscious is actually the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Allen resented Poe s desire to write poetry, as he saw it more fit that Poe obtain a formal
education in business and pay closer attention to formulating his plan for a career (Hutchisson
12). Eventually Poe candidly wrote of his painful difficulties in life, I have many occasional
dealings with Adversity, but the want of parental affection has been the heaviest of my trials
(Ackroyd 13). Equally, Morrison endured an icy and emotionally distant relationship with his
father. Although Morrison followed through with his father s requests to graduate from college
with a degree, the direction in which Morrison took that degree was not at all what his father had
visualized for his son. At the core of Morrison were a poet and a musician, both of which were
unacceptable to his father (Hopkins 63). Furthermore, Poe and Morrison shared fairly
comparable philosophies on the creation of poetry. On poetry, Poe is quoted as saying A poem in
my opinion, is opposed to a work of science by having for its immediate object, pleasure, not truth
(Hutchisson 27). Poe s philosophy on poetry shows his commitment to allowing the pleasure
principle to act as the force behind the poem instead of adhering to a rigid standard put in place by
others before him. Similarly, in an interview lead by Richard Goldstein in 1969, Morrison attempts
to clarify his thoughts about the process of writing poetry; he states, when you write a poem often

Weight Watchers Research Paper
I knew about Weight Watchers way before Oprah started endorsing it! I remember learning about
the weight loss plan in my early twenties from one of my friends. I watched her jump from one diet
to another unsuccessfully, until she tried Weight Watchers. Weight Watchers is diet plan that was
invented in the early 60 s by an overweight housewife named Jean Nidetch. Like most Americans
she was tired of denying herself cabs, desserts and whatever else she wanted to eat for the cost of
losing weight.
Weight Watchers has become a household name, it has over 30 million members and is used in
many countries. I think one of the biggest reasons why Weight Watchers has been able to stick
around is because of their weekly meetings. During those weekly members talk about their weight
loss goals, share eating tips, exercise, and they also discuss behavioral changes that are necessary to
attaining a healthier lifestyle. Losing weight is not easy, but when you have the support of a group,
it goes a long way. Weight Watchers promises you can eat whatever your heart desires, in
moderation, of course. It follows a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one, it is not safe for children. The program s strict point system would not fit a child s daily
calorie intake. Because a child s body is still growing, I think they need their recommended daily
intake of fruits, veggies, legumes, fats and cabs. The plan that weight watchers has limits them from
consuming the amount needed for a child s diet. I think they would either eat too much of certain
food group and not eat enough of another. I think it s a lose lose situation for a child. Aside from
their nutritional needs not being met with the Weight Watchers diet I think that introducing a child
to such a strict diet while they are still developing can hurt them psychologically. The diet plan s
calorie counting, introduces a unhealthy relationship with food, which can later lead to an eating

Music in Generations Essay
All music has changed tremendously throughout the years. Each generation has several specific
songs that defines that generation. Every song has different lyrics that describe the emotions that the
artists are feeling. The songs connect to each individual in many different ways. Lyrics to a song is
what makes music wonderful. Each song touches someone through ways like teaching a life lesson
or touching your heart. Every generation has music that impacts the world by motivating people to

This generation has obtained a tremendous amount of accessible information through technology.
Technology has progressed during this generation which has corrupted the minds of teens
everywhere. Since technology has become a huge factor in generation y s lives, the technology
for music has transformed as well. Just in generation y s period of time, the way to obtain music
advanced from cassettes to downloading or pirating music. When someone wanted to purchase a
song, they would have to buy the whole cassette or cd. In reality, they spent way too much just to
listen to that one or two songs. Technology has created a way that people can buy or steal songs.
Without technology generation y would be lost, technology helps music define a generation.
Generations before generation y think that television, music videos, and music in general has
affected the kids in generation y. Trends and habits are formed by listening or watching. Music has
wonderful and meaningful effects on different people depending on how the music is retained.
Music videos affect generations differently because each generation has a different outlook and
opinion on the lyrics. Each teen or adult reacts to music videos differently. Most songs and music
videos incorporate love along with heart breaks, life scenarios, money and the different styles of
life. Our generation s music is considered to be one of the best generations of
