History In The Waterland
Waterland is a form of postmodern fiction, which reflects on story telling, combining both fictive
and historical narration (Atilla, 1). The protagonist, Tom Crick, who is also the narrator of the
stories, is a history teacher that spends his life trying to discover the mysteries from his past. In the
present, he is dismissed from his job, because the school considers historyto have little value in the
modern world. In one of his last classes, Tom turned his lessons into story telling sessions, by
starting with stories about his personal life and incorporating at the same time his family history and
the French Revolution, with the idea to show the meaning of history. While telling the stories, he
also questions why we tell stories, how are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is questioning the meaning and the relevance of historical events. Price wishes to live in the
Here and Now and embodies all the objections to history and essentially Crick s stories. However,
according to Tom Crick, the past is necessary in order to make meaning of the present. Through
analyzing his own past, Tom Crick is trying to show Price that history is in fact relevant. In forming
his past into a narrative and by using knowledge that perhaps was previously unavailable, the
historian discovers what has been forgotten about the past and brings all the pieces together. Private
or public, histories brings together all the amount of data, categories and concepts to form
themselves into a narrative (Atilla, 4 ). As Linda Hutcheon specifies, in historiographic metafiction
the characters are often seen trying to analyze the data that they have collected. Usually, postmodern
fiction uses historical data, which it assimilates in order to lend a feeling of verifiability. However,
historiographical metafiction incorporates, but rarely assimilates such data. It plays upon the truth
and lies of the historical record, in order to foreground the possible failures of recorded history

Genetic Engineering Blueprint
A child s life should not be taken on as a blueprint. The modification of genes in the child contributes
to the risk of losing individuality and natural differences. Like fingerprints, everyone has their own
unique structure. So in effect of electing specific traits, the unique factor of the human being will be
challenged. Scientists are developing tests having to do with eye color, behavior, nutritional
background associated with disease, and athleticism. These tests are challenging the one in a million
traits and behaviors of a natural birth, which leads to a damaging effect on natural differences. In the
article Opposing Views, it was stated by scientist that there is an increasing number of humans with
similar traits, and a number of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chances increase in this process and the problems can range from minor medical problems to
death (disabled world). An organization has concluded that the most common disease connected to
genetic engineering is called Severe Combined Immunodeficiency or SCID. Ian Langtree
described this disease as a group of rare, sometimes fatal, congenital disorders characterized by
little or no immune response. This was known as bubble boy disease and it was caused by a
defect in white blood cells that protect us from infection by viruses and bacteria(disabled world).
This disease, along with other severe diseases, are possible to obtain in a genetically modified
embryo because after engineering the child, they are susceptible to ruinous infections. This was
caused by the removal of the gene that is associated with the disease they so cautiously and
introspectively removed. In addition, there are many risks that can happen during genetic
engineering such as genetic mutation. These can occur during the development of an organism or
from an encounter with chemicals or radioactive substances (opposing views). There are tests being
taken and results have proven that genetic engineering contributes to muscle and body disorders.
These tests verified ethical concerns about testing for diseases because it lead individuals to have
risky impacts on their well being. Scientists also concluded that genetic engineering and testing
causes a disorder later in life. To further prove that genetic engineering is the cause of these types of
body abnormalities, scientists brought together an assessment for muscle traits. They examined a
group of volunteers in a training program to see whether muscle strength, size, and performance was
interrupted. The scientists determined that the results were positive for a future muscle function
disorder due to a certain

College athletes sould be paid to play
A persuasive essay
By:
College athletes should be paid to play!

In this essay you re being persuaded, you are being persuaded to agree that college athletes should
be played to play. Here there is some information that will help change your mind if you don t agree
with this already. This essay will talk about the athletes not being able to pay for many of the things
they need, they haven t got any time for a job, the athletes bring in money to there schools, and more.
The college athletes should be paid there are many reasons that these people think they should be
paid and here is why. Many athletes in the past and present have been bringing in attendance and
money to the university. Patrick Ewing former ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Common law has three tests: (1) the right of others to control a person s activities; (2) whether that
person is compensated; and (3) if that person is economically dependent on that compensation. The
law professors find that college athletes meet all three because a coach has much control over what
they do, an athletic scholarship amounts to compensation and players depend on those funds for
food and shelter as well as schooling. In their analysis of the Brown University decision, the
McCormick s conclude the status of athletes differs from graduate assistants . The professors say
athletes are not primarily engaged in learning, play sports unrelated to their course of study and fall
under the supervision of coaches rather than faculty members. The McCormick s dispute the NLRB
s finding on the fourth test, which has to do with compensation. In their judgment, young men
playing major football and basketball are not there primarily for an education. They re primarily
there to win football games and basketball games and perform well. (Cox, Mathews) Division One
college football and basketball are no longer games. They are huge billion dollar entertainment

A Conversation About The Natural Resource Curse
A conversation about the natural resource curse in Bolivia is especially imperative today with the
recent crash of oil prices which affects Bolivia s export revenues as natural gas prices are indexed
to oil prices. This chapter seeks to explore Bolivia s economic structure; whether the natural resource
curse phenomenon is already occuring in Bolivia? What are the contributors to their susceptibility to
the risks of the resource curse? What role did Bolivia s state managed economy play in
contributing to this and how have market mechanisms affected Bolivia s economic welfare? In
order to better understand where Bolivia stands today, it would be of interest to recall a resource
curse that Bolivia had already endured in the past under their... Show more content on

With this policy direction in mind, we can look at Bolivia s commodity export dependence, its
effects on industrialization and diversification and the risks of commodity price volatility. This
will require an inquiry into Bolivia s natural gas sector that has been nationalized by the MAS
government in 2006. The two secondary export products that Bolivia relies on are mining and
industrial agriculture, they have similar effects of high revenue and low employment creation as the
natural gas industry does on the economy. Finally a look at Bolivia s macroeconomic policy will
add the last dimension into our inquiry of Bolivia s general economic state.
Tin
Bolivia is not new to commodity dependence; in fact, it was one of the cases that Richard Auty
used in his essay where he first coined the term, natural resource curse (R. Auty 1993). Richard
Auty s case study of the Bolivian case between 1970 1990 outlines the boom and bust cycles of
Bolivia s ore exporting economy. It gives insight into what types of policies were pursued, or
perhaps not pursued that further deteriorated the economy s long term sustainability. In the early 70
s, Bolivia was highly dependent on mining; mining accounted for 77% of exports, 44% of taxes
and 20% of GDP (R. M. Auty 1994). During this time, the Bolivian state was unable to extend
domestic taxes to cover its large public sector expenses due to the polarization of the working class
that demanded higher government

Grapes of Wrath Analysis The cold, soaked earth, which was a source of life not too long ago,
abducts a young child while the mother can only watch hopelessly as the husband shovels mounds of
dirt. This event is not too different than most that citizens living during the Dust Bowl had to deal
with. The self destructive nature caused the American people to keep expanding and shaping the
land as they saw fit. Because of this they overworked the land which, combined with drought,
caused the Dust Bowl. The big corporations soon bought out most of the land in the Mid West and
many families were soon forced to make their living by other means. The shift of these families out
west to a limited number of jobs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steinbeck finishes the section with another usage of asyndeton to describe all of the things that
these men can do to drive the earth to produce or in modern terms: control the wealth of the
country. In (chapters 6 13), the landscape of California changes for the worst as Steinbeck tries to
describe the damage that the men have inflicted on California. Steinbeck s diction with words
such as rot , waste , and decay associate the former Edenic Califronia with a deathly image. This
diction corresponds with the shift in imagery that shows meat turning dark and crop shriveling on
the ground along with black shreds(of cherries) hanging from them(the seeds) ; further depicting
the change of landscape of California. Instead of valleys in which fruit blossoms , the valley
expels an odor of sweet decay showing the horrible state that California has turned in to under the
guidance of the understanding men. Steinbeck also uses strong imagery to depict plentiful pears
falling heavily to the ground and splashing on the ground ; a symbol Steinbeck also changes the
main theme of colors from the beautiful pink and green of the former California to a deathly
black. Steinbeck also uses the vernacular of Californians to show the panic that the farmers feel by
expressing such phrases as We can t do it. and We can t pay wages, no matter what wages. putting
the reader in to the mind of the farmers to experience that panic and
Curley s Wife Description
Throughout most of the book Curley s wife strikes us as a compelling and riveting character as
we initially see her as a wicked character till those few seconds before she dies where you think,
hey she might not be so bad after all. In the novel of Of mice Mice and men Men Curley s wife s
image is portrayed as a very sexual, flirtatious, cheeky and desperate. Steinbeck uses specific words,
sentences and techniques to create the image of Curley s wife as one that is very contrasting.
Steinbeck creates contrasting representations of Curley s wife using the phraseand the meanness and
planning and discontent and the ache for attention with were all gone. The juxtaposition of the two
phrases is used to show the reader that all her bad qualities and all her obnoxiousness has all been
washed away and it has disappeared into thin air and we actually start to somewhat feel pity for this
character that we had thought to be a b***h and a tart. The long sentenceand syndetic listing actually

The fear might be coming from the fact that she may have an unstable relationship and her husband
and she might be afraid of her talking to the newbies in the ranch. This contrasts all of the bad
qualities of her that we have ever had and make us feel, what if curly and her actually have an
unstable relationship and what if she actually isn t doing well with her relationship. Correspondingly
the word used brittle is likely to mean that she is fragile and can be quite easily, or that she is
quite likely to snap and get angry quite quickly. This is shown because brittle has many meanings
/synonyms like fragile or easily broken but in Curley s wife s case you could think of her as fragile

Lab Report On Protein Purification
Lab Report 4

Introduction: Protein purification is a process that can be employed to separate a single protein from
a larger starting material which may be anything from an organ to a cell. Isolating a purified protein
from a larger fraction enables further analysis such as determination of amino acid sequence,
potential biological function, and even evolutionary relationship. (Cuatrecasas 1970) In this
experiment, the enzyme lactate dehydrogenase will be purified, this enzyme is found extensively in
human cells and catalyzes the conversion of lactate to pyruvate, an essential part in energy
production. LDH is a key part of anaerobic energy production especially within glycolysis in which
LDH catalyzes the conversion of the reverse reaction, pyruvate to lactate, generating NAD+ from
NADH, reproducing the oxidized form of the coenzyme which can be used for oxidative respiration.
(Markert 1963) Due to the fact that number of purification steps correlates with the purity of the
protein multiple purification techniques will be used to isolate a pure form of LDH. LDH will be
isolated from a larger cytosol fraction collected from a homogenized rat liver in a previous
fractionation exercise. Of the procedures that will be used to isolate and purify proteins from a
larger fractionate are a set of techniques collectively known as chromatography. These techniques all
have the same premise, in that they consist of a stationary phase, also known as the

The Fight For Women s Suffrage Movement
The Fight For Women s Suffrage
The Women s Suffrage Movement of the 1920 s worked to grant women the right to vote nationally,
thereby allowing women more political equality. Due to many industrial and social changes during
the early 19th century, many women were involved in social advocacy efforts, which eventually led
them to advocate for their own right to vote and take part in government agencies. Women have been
an integral part of society, working to help those in need, which then fueled a desire to advocate for
their own social and political equality. While many women worked tirelessly for the vote, many
obstacles, factions, and ultimately time would pass in order for women to see the vote on the
national level. The 19th Amendment, providing women the right to vote, enable women further their
pursuit for full inclusion in the working of American society.
The Female Advocates
These influential women are most widely known suffragist of their generation and has become icons
of the women suffrage movement. These independent, bold, and intelligent female pioneers paved
the way for so many women different races, and nationalities to come together as one for a common
cause. These women are known today as idols, icons, and activists. Those women that took a stand
when no one else would be: Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucy Stone.
These women believed that all American women, just like men, deserve the rights and
responsibilities of citizenship.

What Is Liquidity Of The Stock Market
Domestic stock market Size and liquidity
The Financial Markets in the UAE are rather unique in nature, they are fairly young with an
extraordinary growth potential in the long run. A wide, diverse selection of securities is listed that
can be traded in the Financial Market. These securities include equities, securities, bonds, futures,
mutual funds, commodities, currencies, metals, stones, derivatives, and Sukuk (Islamic bonds)
(Financial Markets Official Portal of UAE, n.d). The two most important Financial Markets in the
UAE are the ADX and DFM. The DFM and ADX are both regulated by the SCA. However, the

Banking system
The Central Bank of the UAE was established in 1980 (Crystal Peterson,2017). It is the UAE s
highest financial regulator. The Central Bank works with the state by directing changes in
Monetary, Banking, and Credit based policies appropriately. It implements those policies in
accordance to the state s current Financial and Economic needs. Moreover, the Central Bank aims
to stabilize the economy and the current exchange rate by maintaining gold and other foreign
currency reserves. The UAE Central Bank, prohibits lending an amount greater than 7 percent of
a bank s capital base to any single customer (United Arab Emirates Banking System, n.d).
Furthermore, Islamic banking in the UAE has shown a boundless level of progress due to no
interest fees per Sharia Law. The UAE Islamic Financial Sector was estimated to be worth around
127 Billion US Dollars in 2014, it is also the third largest Islamic market by value after Saudi
Arabia and Malaysia (John,2015). In November 2011, the Central Bank introduced the IBAN
system, its main purpose was to ease the process of automatic money transfers and improve the
accuracy and speed of payment transactions (Standard Chartered Bank of UAE, n.d).

Tax environment Relevant Considerations
