Lyra s Paradoxical Characteristics In Jane Eyre
Lyra s traits as depicted from this book are somehow paradoxical; she is described as, coarse,
greedy, and savage (Pullman 2015, pp.). Since she comes from a stable family she now becomes a
wild cat but she lives in the affluent area around Oxford. She likes telling stories some of which are
amplifications and overstated, yet she has a truth meter reader known as alethiometer. These
paradoxical traits make her mysterious hence justifying her heroines. Another instance is when she is
represented as the person who is going to determine the fate of the humankind through protecting
Dust. But according to the master, Lyra must get out of her destiny for her to achieve the mission.
She will have to go against her destiny without realizing that
Thomas V Mowbray Revolutionised And Created A New
The case of Thomas v Mowbray revolutionised and created a new, broad, perspective of the
constitutional defence powers in regards to terrorism. This was the first case to reach the High Court
on the validity of anti terrorism measures that were recently introduced to Australia by the executive.
Thomas made several submissions within this case, including that the defence power was limited to
defence against threats from foreign states and that the words naval and military present in the
wording of the section confines the defence power to those activities and cannot underpin broader
activities to protect the community. Unfortunately, on the first point there was a 6:1 majority that
the law was valid under the power for threats both domestic and foreign. Kirby J dissent held that the
Commonwealth had essentially failed to establish the factual basis that was needed to support its
reliance on the defence power. Further, Kirby J concluded that the facts underpinning the war on
terror did not constitute hostilities for the purposes of the first limb of the defence power. The
majority of the High Court upheld the constitutional validity of the anti terrorismlaws that allowed
for the courts to impose control orders upon persons of whom they believed to pose a threat due to
their connections to listed terrorist organisations, regardless of the possibly that some derogable
rights maybe be overridden. The control order imposed on Thomas required him to remain in his
residence
Global Staffing Process Paper
The steps used in the process of establishing guiding principles and rules for staffing purposes within
global organizations are extensive and time consuming. They are necessary, however, in order to
ensure strategies, practices, and tools are implemented properly throughout all areas of a global
organization. Global organizations are not independent businesses located in different countries,
rather they use resources from one part the organization to create competitive advantages in other
areas (Ryan, Wiechmann, Hemingway, 2003). One of the first steps in the process in designing
global assessments is determining the objectives (Scott Reynolds, 2010). This will involve gathering
information about what an organization seeks to achieve with... Show more content on

For example, global projects require even greater attention to the composition of project teams than
a domestic assessment, but if an organization did not put in enough effort at this stage it may not
be as effective in later stages of the endeavor. As mentioned above, global project teams can take
longer to build (Ryan et al., 2003), and organizations may want to skip this longer build time.
Helping an organization understand that this stage is one of the foundations of the overall process
may help, especially considering that this may reduce possible resistance to the selection system
during implementation (Scott Reynolds, 2010). Organizations may try to skip determining the
comparability of various job related functions, since this step can be daunting and time consuming
(Scott Reynolds, 2010). However, a clear understanding of each job is necessary and would be best
demonstrated rather than simply assumed; some KSAOs may overlap, but others may be unique to
a job in a specific locale, and treating them all the same could create foundational issues. Another
step organizations may try to skip could be an analysis of job markets. The complexity involved with
creating and implementing effective systems may seem daunting to an organization (Ryan et al.,
2003). There are many reasons to do this though, such as finding top
Essay On Blues Ain T No Mockin Bird
My Compare and Contrast Essay

All people want respect from other people, right? They all do because being respected means that
people appreciate you and will be kind to you. In Blues Ain t No Mockin Bird and The Rules of
the Game respect wasn t given to the elder or the younger. No matter what age you are you always
deserve respect. I will be comparing and contrasting these two stories and explaining why they are
important pieces to the story. In our world today black people are scorned or looked down upon. In
Blues Aint No Mockin Bird the family is black and the grandmother is not treated right because
she was old. In this case it could also be because she was black. The filmmakers would not listen
to her when she said that she wanted them to leave her property. In the end they had to be told off
by the grandfather who was a very powerful looking man. Respect isn t always given to the elder,
it can also be earned by the younger person. In Rules of the Game Waverly is a little Chinese girl
who is really good at chess and her mother seems to be proud of her at first. Later on we find out
that she just wants Waverly to win so that she can gain people s attention of herself. Waverly didn t
like that so she ran off and didn t come back for a while. She was treated with scorn when she came

In Blues Ain t No Mockin Bird the grandmother cared a lot about the respect that she was given by
other people on her property. Waverly in Rules of the Game didn t care for long, she just forgot
about it and thought about the next chess game. It is true that adults usually care about things for a
longer time period than children. The grandfather came to the rescue in the first story, but nobody
came to help Waverly. She was left to fend for herself by running off into an alley. The mother
thought that Waverly had disgraced the family and that it wasn t about herself that caused the
Research Testing the Shot Distance of the Crossbow, the...
I am researching this because I am interested in medieval and roman weaponry and how it works
so it was a simple choice to make and test different weapons from those eras. I am finding out which
shoots the furthest the crossbow, the catapult, or the slingshot and if I do not know how they work, I
cannot compare them to each other so I decided to research this.

My hypothesis is that the catapult will shoot the furthest and I think that I am right do to previous
research by professionals. But in other cases the catapult is made to full size but in this case it is
made to a scale factor of 25% of its original size so that might affect the result because in the larger
version there is more force on the launcher and in the crossbow there isn t as much tension build up.

Hooke s Law is a physics principle the says that the force needed to pull something back in this case
by some distance is directly proportional to that distance s is a constant factor that factors in the

Pulling back on the string creates elastic energy and when the string is released the elastic energy

transfers into the arrow when the string reach s limit of extension.

Margaret Sanger Biography Essay
Margaret Sanger was one of the most influential women of the progressive era. While both a
suffragist and an avid women s rights advocate, she worked tirelessly on her goal to create a safe
and effective birth control method, though many people thought her work to be evil and
sacrilegious. But despite her opposition, she was in the end successful and inspired countless others
in the process through her selfless work and her desire to help others.
Sanger grew up in a large family and while working as a nurse, she saw first the many problems that
overpopulation was causing and had the potential to cause (Sanger). In the 1910s, Sanger began to
publish articles on birth control, and initiated the National Birth Control League (Women in the

She believed it was her duty to place motherhood on a higher level than enslavement and accident
(Sanger) and in doing so, make motherhood an option. Up to this point in history, that was
considered a woman s duty to have and raise children, but Sanger saw things differently. Sanger
saw the desperation of the women who had more children than they could handle and wanted to
make a difference. Sanger collected 250,000 letters from women and published them in a book
called Motherhood in Bondage, which contained messages from these women. One particularly
moving one reads I have two small children twenty months apart, the baby now seven weeks old
and am twenty one years myself. You might know what this means to me to care for two babies at
this age when it simply stopped my being with my friends who can still be free to go, although I
would do anything for my two children to help them go through a decent life. I am constantly living
in fear of becoming pregnant again so soon (I am a prisoner). This seems to be an accurate account
of motherhood in this time period and shows the great need for birth control which Sanger
responded to with her continuous work. By creating the ability to control the number of children a
woman had, Sanger enabled families to escape the financial and health troubles that often
Research Paper On Rhizobia
Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION

Situational Analysis
Soil productivity is an important concern for farmers. Green manuring, crop rotation and mix
farming are oftenly used to improve the soil fertility at the same time the nutrients used in plant
growth are conserved and returned to the soil to enhance its fertility (Alberta Agriculture and
Forestry, 1993). Green manuring is the plowing under or soil incorporation of any green manure
crops while they are green or soon after they flower. Green manures are grown for their leafy
materials needed for soil conservation (Boller et al., 2004). Plants are commonly used for green
manuring have Rhizobia bacteria for nitrogen fixation similarly crop rotation is alternating legumes
and non legumes plants
Most plants need nitrogen from various sources one of which is fixed by a group of bacteria
known as Rhizobia (Herridge et al., 2008). Rhizobia have the ability to fix nitrogen in plant and
help for their growth. The Rhizobia chemically convert the nitrogen from the atmosphere to make it
available in plants. If there is not enough nitrogen available in the soil, plants look pale in color and
their growth development is reduced (Ngakou, 2009).
Rhizobia are remarkable bacteria because they can live either in the soil or within the root nodules of
host legumes and non legumes plants. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Rhizobia can nodulate the string beans and they have a symbiotic relationship with Rhizobia
(Johnson et al., 1970). The string bean have a potential health benefits like, improved calcium
absorption and reducing urinary excretion of calcium, and prevent cancer because they have a high
chlorophyll which can block the carcinogenic effects of heterocyclic amines generated when grilling
meats at a high temperature (Ware et.al.,
A Research Study On Vascular Imaging
Introduction
Vascular ultrasound (US) is an established non invasive method of imaging the cardiovascular
system. It is cheap, accessible and provides a rapid diagnosis of many vascular diseases such as
presence of abdominal aortic aneurysm, deep vein thrombosis and limb arterial occlusions. The
majority of vascular ultrasound currently done in the UK is trans cutaneous ultrasound, in which the
US probe obtains images of the vessels from above the skin.
In recent years intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) has gained popularity in obtaining high resolution
images of the blood vessels from inside the vascular lumen, providing detailed information of the
vascular lesions and their anatomy.
In this review, utilisation of IVUS in different areas of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The standard IVUS sheaths are 9 Fr with a 0.035 inch guidewire, however 0.014 inch catheters are
available for smaller arteries (Kpodonu et al., 2008).
Once inside the target vessel, IVUS obtains 360 degrees cross sectional images. The sonic wave
reflections from the arterial wall differ depending on the structure of the arterial wall components.
Collagen and elastin produce a stronger sonic reflection thus a hyper echoic picture of the intima
and adventitia, whilst the smooth muscle cells in the media produce a hypo echoic picture due to
reduced sonic reflection from these structures (Kpodonu et al., 2008). New generation IVUS
devices can produce three dimensional pictures by stacking the two dimensional axial images
during pull back of the US catheter. The pull back could be done either manually or mechanically
using a motor. 3 D images are useful in assessment of endovascular device deployment failures,
which might not be detected in conventional angiographies. 3 D images are also helpful in sizing of
the arteries and veins for endovascular device planning (Weissman et al., 1995; Heuser et al., 1997).
IVUS can provide B mode and colour images from inside the vessels. The transducers frequencies
are generally between 10 MHz and 40MHz (Lee and White, 2004). New generation IVUS with
frequencies of 40MHz to 50MHz are useful for imaging the coronary arteries (Lee and White, 2004).
Although higher frequencies can produce higher resolution images, this would
African Imperialism DBQ
European powers shamelessly exploited the people and resources of Africa in the 19th century. They
often tried to justify their actions by using ideology, religion and moralism. After the end of the
African slave trade, the development of steam power, and medical discovery, European nations
started exploring not only the coast but also the unmapped interior of the continent. In this essay, I
will explain the main driving forces behind African Imperialism. The Western europeans countries all
competed for land and resources because of their self interest. They sought natural resources, and
technology gave them the ability to exploit them. The philosophy of national pride however, was the
primary reason. (Main document) (Doc C, D B)

The technical advances in the early and middle part of the 19th century enabled Western European
powers to exploit imperial objectives in Africa. Among these advances were the steam engine,
extraction of quinine, invention of the telegraph, steal processing and improved weaponry. The
steam engine was important in increasing the speed and reliability of transportation. Extracting
quinine from the bark of the cinchona tree helped treat malaria; a mosquito borne disease that killed
thousands; it was now possible to survive in the interior of Africa. The telegraph was invented in
1837 and allowed fast communication over long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These countries wanted their most worthy citizens to be part of their imperial desires, which lead to
a philosophy of their ideals, religion and morals being developed. They meant that they could justify
the colonies and labor based on the superiority of their culture, and the need to spread it to other
cultures. When doing this, local cultures often destroyed, and people lost a sense of their identity.

Julia Wood Epilogue
I feel that the most pressing issue involving communication, gender, and culture would be
acceptance. The world needs to take into consideration that even though they want things to remain
the same, things are bound to change.

After reading the Epilogue and the textbook, I realize that we need to be willing to accept what
families decide is the best choice for the work load both parents have. Growing up in a home where
both parents had jobs outside the home helped me appreciate both members contributing to the family
. This also helps me realize that even though one family member may decide to stay home, that
does not make them any less important to the family overall. A statement that Julia Wood made in
the Epilogue stood out to me. She says that As women and men, you can affect what society
expects of and admires in each sex (Wood, 321). This showed me that we have the ability to impact
the gender roles society holds. It is important to not judge a father for deciding to stay home while
the mother works ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to monitor the way in which we choose to talk to one another. There are many
things in society that people find offensive. As the next decade comes into view, society needs to
grasp the differences in people and that not everyone reacts to things the same. Some people find
things very unpleasant without others being aware of it. Wood continues to talk in the Epilogue
about our generation taking the time to recognize that not everyone is the same in the world. She
says Maybe your generation will replace the melting pot metaphor with one that recognizes
commonality without obliterating real and valuable differences among people (Wood, 322). I think
that she makes a great point here. We have been raised to understand that there is a melting pot in
our society. This idea may need to change as the world pulls away from following exactly what we
originally had in
