Summary Of Henry David Thoreau s Resistance To Civil...
Why has every man a conscience, then? I think that we should be men first, and subjects
afterward. (Thoreau 853) Henry David Thoreau, in his writing, Resistance to Civil Government,
defines both what a true man is and what a subject is. A man is someone who thinks with their
conscience, and a subject is someone who respects and abides by the law. Thoreau wants all
people to be men. To him a subject is nothing more than an inanimate object, because he sees it as
having no moral conscience. He wants people to question their injustices. Thoreau pushes people
to take a chance and disobey unjust laws. His main concepts and ideas revolve around the large
aspect of civil disobedience which tie in with many different events in society today. On Saturday
March 9th, 2013 a young teenager by the name of Kimani Gray was shot and killed by two police
officers in Brooklyn, New York. Kimani was reported by police to have been with a group of men
late at night in front of a house when the Brooklyn South Anti Crime Patrol arrived to question
them. The sixteen year old boy was said to have been acting suspicious and went to grab something
from his waist. Police said that Kimani had pointed a .38 caliber revolver at them. Two of the
patrollers reacted with having eleven shots fired at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason there can be two arguments to this situation is because the facts aren t set and there
seems to be no truth. There is no proof that Kimani had a gun, but there is not proof against it. This
is where Thoreau s thoughts hit a gray area. What is truth in this situation? It s hard to tell which
side is using their moral conscience. The only obligation which I have a right to assume, is to do at
any time what I think right . (Thoreau 853) Are the police, the community, or both

INTRODUCTION Lipids are organic compounds found in living organisms that are insoluble or
slightly soluble in water but soluble in non polar organic solvents.
Lipids can be classified into four groups which are fats, oils, and waxes, compound lipids, steroids,
and derived lipids.
Various experiments are done on lipids. Some tests are for saturation, presence of certain compounds,
or for the different chemical reactions that lipids undergo.

It is predominantly composed of the elements carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Many classes of lipids
also contain nitrogen and phosphorus. The relative amounts of these elements, as well as their
structural positions, determine the degree of solubility of the lipid in various solvents. Lipids with
high hydrocarbon content are relatively nonpolar in nature and insoluble in water. The ionic
character of a lipid can be altered by changes in solvent pH. For example, if the solvent contains a
strong acid or a strong base, hydrolysis of some of the ester bonds will occur. When this happens,
the products of hydrolysis may have solubility properties very different from those of the original
lipid molecule.
Structures of the different Samples and Solvents
Sample 1: Vegetable Oil (Oleic acid)
Oleic acid has the chemical formula C17H33COOH
Due to its large nonpolar portion, oleic acid is insoluble in water and, being less dense than water,
it floats on the water surface. The polar COOH end, however, is attracted to water molecules. So, a
thin coating of oleic acid on the surface of water results
Girl Number 20, Essay from Hard Times, Dickens, C.
The 19th century witnessed the beginning of queen Victoria s reign, the industrial revolution,
realism as literary movement and realistic novels among other. When we refer to realistic novels,
we are not talking about novels being a reality but instead we refer to the creation of fictional
stories and characters that are very much like real life people and situations. In other words,
authors wrote their novels to critize social unfairness, poverty, struggles, health issues and so forth,
as a way to reflect the truth just as it was, and it all was possible because their stories and
characters were believable. Charles Dickens was one of the most influential writers of the time, his
novel Hard Times, as the rest of his works, is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dickens shows us that her creative, optimistic and attentive attitude was not only present when
she was around her father but also through out the rest of her life, even so, most people did not
see it as a brilliant attitude; instead they labeled her as an uneducated, an abstract and an
unintelligent person. However, the author uses this attitude to demonstrate that life is not only
made out of facts but also of reality, logic and common sense. This situation is well illustrated in
the following quote: Girl number twenty, said the gentleman, smiling in the calm strength of
knowledge. Sissy blushed, and stood up. So you would carpet your room or your husband s
room, if you were a grown woman, and had a husband with representations of flowers, would you,
said the gentleman. Why would you? If you please, sir, I am very fond of flowers, returned the girl.
And is that why you would put tables and chairs upon them, and have people walking over them
with heavy boots? It wouldn t hurt them, sir. They wouldn t crush and wither if you please, sir. They

Jimmy Baker Sex Addiction Essay
My name is Jimmy Baker and I am addicted to pornography. Some consider sex addiction to be an
excuse for inappropriate behavior, which from the viewpoint of an outsider is a reasonable
misconception. However, these outsiders are unable to comprehend the incessant craving for
sexual activities. A sex addict has often been defined as a person who is obsessed with some type
of sexual behavior, and whose behavior is compulsive and is continued despite significant adverse
consequences (@).(Question 1) Day to day life as a sex addict consists of activities that are
common to most middle aged men of this era like watching football on Sundays or taking my dog
for a walk with the exception of sex dominating your waking thoughts.(Question 7) My addiction...

One of these few people include my wife. It started off as just a few instances in which my wife
walked into accidently. However, what was thought to be a one time occurrence has developed
into a more frequent problem. As time progressed and my dependence on pornagraphy increased,
more and more of the ones I cared most for slowly began to drift further away. Doing things like
attending the Sunday morning service at our local Christian churchwith my family turned into
something that I dread going to. Services were no longer inspiring or impelling, but rather filled
with lessons that provoked guilt and shame within myself. Sermons that target the repercussions
of sexual sins now haunt me and linger in the back of my head day in and day out.(Question 4)
The mere thought of my exposure as a sex addict within my church is daunting. Most people
assume a sex addict means that I look forward to getting between the sheets with everyone I lay
my eyes on. This assumption is what associates the stereotype that all sex addicts are rapist.
Therefore, if I were to reveal my identity as one who suffers from the addiction to pornagraphy, I
would never live down the relentless questions like, Are you a pedophile? or How many prostitutes
do you bring home in a week? .(Question
On The Golden Pond Reflection
On November 4th 2017, I went to Rex Mathes Auditorium , West Des Moines, Iowa for watching
the drama On the Golden Pond. The theatre group which performed was from Tallgrass Theatre
Company. Tallgrass theatre is all volunteer based. The stage and lighting were all set when I
entered inside the auditorium. This was my first drama watching experience in Iowa. On the
Golden Pond by Ernest Thompson is a story about an old couple, Ethel and Norman Thayer, who
spend their each summer on a lake Golden Pond, in the far northern New England. But this
summer their daughter Chelsea is going to visit them, who lives in California. I liked how the
stage was done , it was very relevant to the title On the golden pond. They had used wooden house
/room with wooden stairs, boat paddles, fishing rod and photo frames. The lake house was giving
feelingof summer. After arriving to the house , ethel notices loons calling on the lake. She was so
happy that they are welcoming them home. This was feeling of happiness, and I think it was very
creative. The drama also try to make up relationship between Father and daughter. Early in the play,
Norman starts making fun about his deathin jokes and offhand comments. He talks about living long
and preparing for celebrating his last birthday. In one way, he seems to have a healthy attitude about
his death, but, in another, his unpleasant joking makes one wonder whether he is trying too hard to
maintain that act. There was humor

The Importance Of Self-Agency
You are given a first day of school questionnaire for the teacher to get to know you; how much of
your answers are the real deal, and how much of it is tailored to put you in the teacher s good
books? Upon asking this question the next thought could be; what or who defines what the real
answer is or the fabricated one, and does it matter which ones we choose to write down? The long
debated questions surrounding the extent of selfagency have been explored through literature and
other mediums for decades, specifically with rebellious characters like Ednain Kate Chopin s The
Awakening, essays by psychologists like Paul Bloom expanding on the idea of more than one
self in, First Person Plural, and self reflective pieces on adulthood like Sandra Loh s, On Being a
Bad Mother. Through the assessment of a variety of work of this nature, it is logical to conclude
that we are neither completely governed by our external circumstances, nor are we in full control of
ourselves; instead we must acknowledge the multiple facets of who we are, recognize the different
repercussions of suppressing some of those facets, and finally strive to find a balance between our
internal and external locus of control. For convenience s sake, the average person has thought of
themselves as precisely that themselves; but what if we didn t? The notion that we are comprised
of one entity has been accepted as a definite by society, and if one acts otherwise, it is diagnosed as

Embryology of anorectal malformations
The hindgut develops into the distal third of the transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon,
rectum, and the upper part of the anal canal. The endoderm of the hindgut also forms the lining of
the bladder and urethra . The terminal part of the hindgut contributes to the posterior region of the
cloaca, the primitive anorectal canal; the allantois merges into the anterior portion, the primitive
urogenital sinus Figure 1(Sadler, 2011). The cloaca is a cavity lined by endoderm and ventrally
covered by surface ectoderm. The boundary lying between the endoderm and the ectoderm forms the
cloacal membrane. A layer of mesoderm called the urorectal septum,

The NHS is in the Tertiary sector as it only provides a service to us; it doesn t collect raw
materials or manufacture them. Local/National/International/Global A business that only
operates in one area would be known to be a local business; they are usually small businesses such
as a sole trader or partnership and won t be operating in other areas as well. A larger business that
operates all over the country would be known as a national business, they would more likely be
PLC s or LTD s; however they won t have any other branches of their business in any other
country. An international business is a business that operates in more than one country and a

Film Analysis of King Kong Produced by Merian C. Cooper
A classic adventure fantasy film in the earlier talking films is King Kong (1933). King
Kong was conceived by director/producer Merian C. Cooper. Cooper tells the story of an attractive
blonde woman and a frightening gigantic ape monster who are immersed in a Beauty and the Beast
type tale. A major section of the film is the struggle on Skull Island between the filmmakers, the
islanders, and the other resident of the island. The other resident being a mutant creature who must
also fight civilization when it is brought to New York City for display. From the beginning of the
movie, its screenplay by James Creelman and Ruth Rose foretells the coming terror. The film ...

The film industry was changed quiet a bit from this motion picture.
The acting and directing of the film King Kong was magnificent. In the film there are no
particular weak performances. Everyone gives a rather enjoyable performance during the movie.
In watching the movie I found that as it went on I just could not wait to see what would happen
next, which shows the wonderful pace of the film. The director presents the beast in a way that is
tragic. Towards the end of the picture you start to sympathize with the beast that is trapped upon the
top of the building being fired upon by planes from above. As a director, having the skill to pull
these emotions over a beast from an audience is astonishing.
The people who assembled this movie did a wonderful job. There was a great amount of thought
put into the production of this film. The composition of the picture is one that should be
remembered by filmmakers of today. The scenes on the ship and on the island look as if they
really take place there and not on a sound stage or on the back lot. The motion picture tells a tale
which is believable because it is one of a man going to a strange island to shot a movie to gain
wealth in America. Having hired the help of a beautiful young woman, he runs upon trouble while
switching from one interesting scene to another. In the picture the beautiful Fay Ray is as stunning
today as she was when the picture was first
The Impact Of The Boston Tea Party
The colonists were angry and furious, the King was taxing everything. Every new tax made the
colonist s mad and made the King money. Son s of Liberty had the tax collectors scared, so they all
agreed to stop taxing, but that s not what the king wanted. The King made them keep taxing the tea
only. The colonist s were still very upset with the tea tax. That is what leaded to the Boston Tea party
(the tea act). The Boston Tea Party had the best impact on the colonists towards fighting for their
Independence. From my opinion Britain could have made things fair for everyone, but the King was
selfish.
The colonist s were very upset with Britain, because they won t stop taxing, but once they did stop
they only taxed the tea. That was not good for the colonist s. As the taxing of tea was still going
on, people were getting more and more furious each day. We must fight, I repeat it,sir,we must
fight I know not what course others may pursue, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.
Patrick Henry (The Revolutionary War,15). The Son s of Liberty finally came through to help,
they planned a little plan and if all goes well we may have no tea taxes for good. ... Show more

Analysis Of Mississippi Goddam By Nina Simone
It is a jaunty ragtime melody that fools listeners into briefly perceiving the number as a feel good
pop song, yet sustains its relevance by acknowledging the continued failure of a full realization of
Black freedom a century after the Thirteenth Amendment. [1. Sound of the Break: Jazz and the
Failures of Emancipation Bridget R. Cooks American Quarterly (June 2016) no. 2 330http:/
/muse.jhu.edu/article/622084] It took Nina Simonean hour to write Mississippi Goddam, which is a
song based on the place names of oppression. It was written immediately in the wake of the 1963
church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, where four African American girls, none older than
fourteen, were murdered while at Sunday school.
In this song, she mocked government promises, stereotypical insults, and the continuing warning
of public leaders to Go Slow , which the backup singers call out Too Slow! repeatedly. This song
had no intention of being uplifting with lyrics like we shall overcome , instead it is a song about a
movement. A woman who did not have much to begin with and small hope for the American future
sings, Oh but this whole country is full of lies... You re all gonna die and die like flies.
Nina Simone never thought she was going to stay in the show business. When she first got into
show business, she wasn t even a blues singer or jazz singer. She was a classical pianist who
studied to become the first black classical pianist in America, and that s all that was on her mind
and what she prepared to be. She born with the name of Euince Waymon in a town called Tryon,
North Carolina. She began to play the piano at around three or four. Her mother was a preacher
and took her to the revivals, where she started to play the piano at church. Revival meetings were
some of the most exciting times for Simone, since the music was so intense and the feeling of going
out of yourself was the best, especially since she would lead these meetings.
When Simone was seven, the choir of her church gave a program at the local theater, and she was
on it. Two white women heard her playing some songs and one of them, Mrs. Mazzanovich, decided
then and there to give music lessons. For five years, she studied classical piano with this
