Oxford University Importance
Oxford University is one of the oldest Universities in existence. It is located in Oxford England
about 50 miles northwest of London and is the oldest University in England. Oxford University is
important because it is vital to not just people in England, but to the whole world at large. It has
been first and foremost in setting standards for teaching and learning. Oxfordhas been known for
exceptional communication skills which were needed in trade between countries and smaller entities
for universal progress among people. What can I say then, Oxford Universityhelped lead the way to
progressiveness internationally and continuing to stand tall amongst the greatest and the best known
of its kind. Oxford is a university to be reckoned with .
The early school of Oxford was a gill, an organization of tradesmen whose chief purpose was to
control teaching by limiting the number of teachers. There are some indicators concerning the
origin of the institution. From all indications the masters elected one of their member as head
officer and gave him the title of chancellor. The head of the university bears this title. The students
organized themselves into groups much like modern college fraternities. Nevertheless there is a
record of lectures from other european countries at oxford as early as 1117. Between 1167 and 1168
foreign students were expelled from the University of Paris after relations between england and paris
broke off . Consequently, many students from
Environmental Benefits Of Green Roofs
Introduction
There are several ecological and environmental benefits of green roofs which have consequentially
brought in increasing interests in this technology. A green roof, as a carpeting of plants on the roof
of buildings, offers many benefits in addition to enhancing its aesthetic value. Primarily, green roofs
have the ability to delay the storm runoff peak occurrence, thus reducing the peak flow rate and
mitigating flood risks. Another benefit is its thermal insulation potential that reduces the urban heat
island effect. They also help with pollution abatement, carbon sequestration, biodiversity
conservation, and general improvement of life quality in urban ecosystems (Xiaosheng et al. 2014).

Green roofs generally consist of a rather simple layering covering the rooftop, including a waterproof
layer, a water retention layer and a drainage/filter layer topped with substrate with different depths
according to both maximum load capacity of the roof and vegetation type to be grown (Nardini et al.
2012). However, while there has not so much attention about the relative importance of vegetation
structure and composition in determining the ecosystem and technical functions of green roofs, in
the last years, a number of studies have reported significant impacts of vegetation type on stormwater
runoff management (VanWoert et al. 2005).

In this paper, I aim to review existing research literature and summarize the process and importance
of vegetation selection criteria for

Compare And Contrast City And City Life
There comes a time in everyone s life when we ask ourselves the age old question which has
tormented so many, Should I live in the city or in the country? Imagine deciding whether to live in
just one specific area for the rest of your life. Many would argue that the hectic lifestyle that a big
city provides clearly places it ahead of a suburban landscape. Others, however, would claim that the
serene and restful environment of the countryside is much more satisfying than the citycould ever be.
It is important to be clear that not all vast cities are the same, and it goes the same way for the
suburban regions of America. The city and country lifestyleare two distinct types of living, each
with their own pros and cons that may overlap at times. Between these two, there are numerous
differences when looking at their environment, distinct social opportunities, and contrastive cost of
living. One way or another, all the facts will be laid down, and a deeper insight into why people
settle in either the city or the suburbs shall become apparent.
At first glance, it is obvious that there are many pros and cons when it comes to deciding a
lifestyle in either one of these surroundings, so careful assessment of all details are required to
make the ideal decision for what a future resident might expect. To start off, it would seem that the
majority of city apartments can be quite affordable in a rent controlled zone and are much more
practical for poor families, or even
The Importance Of Benevolent Sexism
When I first stumbled upon benevolent sexism in the textbook I had to stick to the section for a
little bit. I was very intrigued by the concept as I was completely unaware that it classified as
sexism, let alone that it was actually harmful to the egalitarian movement. Benevolent sexism is
mistaken with an appreciation and respect for women, which can make it hard to identify and then
classify correctly. In the textbook, this concept is described as the following: a more subtle kind of
sexismthat argues for women s special niceness and purity (...) You may initially think that
benevolent sexism cannot be harmful. However, it still emphasizes that women are different from
men and that they are also weaker. (Matlin 58) This struck a chord with me particularly because I
did initially think that it could not be harmful, and was oblivious to the consequences that its
existence entailed. Discussion in class as well as textbook readings showed that this sexism was
very much alive and running in our society, which prompted me to think, why is it that there aren t
obvious efforts against benevolent sexism? My own experience answered this question; a great
portion of women do not see this invisible sexism and endorse it unknowingly.

This concept goes well with what we discussed in class known as gender complementarity , the idea
that women serves as complements to men, we are here to assist them and complete them. This idea
fetishes the woman and turns her into an object with a
What Are The Similarities Between Debs And Schenck
The critics of World War I, specifically Eugene V. Debs and Charles Schenck, were American. An
American is a person of United States citizenship who upholds the values, ideas, and traditions upon
which America was founded. Debs and Schenck believed that those who went to war were anti
Americans. They themselves must be Americans if they oppose anti Americans. The Schenck
Pamphlet states, war is an insult to every good and wholesome American tradition. He is up front on
his belief in American tradition. He is arguing that those who encourage war are anti American.
Eugene V. Debs sarcastically states in his speech, These... tyrants, red handed robbers and murders,
[say they re] the patriots. Eugene opposes those who support World War I, his belief making them
anti American. If one opposes those who are against an entity for the reason that they are against the
entity, must believe in the entity themselves to care about the opposers.... Show more content on

Some who cares enough to say I am not a blank, must want to be viewed as a blank, blank being
an American in this scenario. Eugene V. Debs states, the men who have the courage to stand face
to face with them , speak the truth, and fight for their exploited victims they are [called] the
disloyalists and traitors. Schenck s Pamphlet asks its reader, Are you with the forces of liberty and
light or war and darkness? Those who are the light and speak the truth would be Debs, Schenck,
and others with similar ideas; Those who are darkness would be the supporter of World War I. They
make the supporters the bad guys and anti Americans and the opposers the good guys and the
Americans. The supporters say the inverse and Debs and Schenck reject this
The Importance Of The Somme On The Home Front
In 1916, the battle of the Somme began, intending to end the war for the allies. It pitted an
unexperienced British army, against a professional German one. It was also, however significant in
many ways. Two of the main areas where the battle of the Somme was significant were in its military
value, and the reactions it caused, on the home front. The battle of the Somme, intended to end the
war that year, had ambitious objectives, it was significant for failing to achieve almost all of
these. One of these was Beaumont Hamel, a fortified village behind the German lines. The Battle
plan called for the village to be taken on the first day. The fact that the village was not taken until
the very end of the battle on the 13th of November, illustrates how much the plan failed.
Demonstrating the level to which the plan failed Private Anthony Stacey reports that this was a
death trap for our boys as the enemy just set the sights of their machine guns on the gaps in the
barbed wire and fired . Another objective, Serre, was not taken at all. In fact, the British staff were
so unaware of modern weapons, that they had cavalry ready to attack after the infantry broke
through. This is significant as it shows how inexperienced the British armywas when it came to
trench warfare. Had the staff understood the trench tactics better, they would not have... Show more

During the Somme entire pal s battalions were wiped out, leading to an entire village losing their
troops in the army at once. For example, at Accrington, where during one week 584 of 720 men
were killed. To reduce this loss, the British army began putting men from the same area into
different battalions, so that losses to a village or town were spread
