Descriptive Essay About Hawaii
Hawaii
When I was in 4th grade, I went to Honolulu, Hawaii. While I was there I stayed with my family
who moved there for work. I have never been to an island before and was excited to see what Hawaii
had to offer. I did many things while i was there, like going to a waterfall, seeing a pineapple farm,
and visiting Pearl Harbor. While I was in Hawaii, I stayed in Honolulu. I stayed with my aunt and
uncle, they have 2 kids. The boy is the oldest and his name is Drake. Their other child is a girl,
her name is Mila. Her name is hawaiian since she was born there. So when I went it was not just
me. My grandparents, my sisters, my parents and my brother went on this great trip with me.
They loved it there and so did I. They lived there for about 3 4 years. My uncle is in the U.S. Coast
Guard so he got stationed in Hawaii. When they lived there their house was in Pearl City. When
we stayed there we were there for 11 days. The 11 days went by so fast, it seemed like only 5 days.
While we were there, we did many things. So the first day we were there we went to a beach. We
drove to Paradise Cove Beach for the first day and we went there a couple times after that. This
beach was beautiful and it had a great view. When I first swam in the ocean I forgot it was salt
water so when water got into my mouth I was grossed out. We stayed at this beach for a good 3
hours. We also went to other beaches like Waikiki, Makaha, and others I do not remember. At the
first beach we
Social Welfare Reform
The U.S. reform effort suggests that the social welfare policy is most efficient at reducing poverty.
Federally funded and governed US welfare began in the 1930 s during the Great Depression. [1] A
main goal of these reforms is to reduce the number of individuals or families dependent on
government assistance and to assist the recipients in their efforts to become self sufficient. [2]
Welfarewas intended as a way to help people through a rough spot and are in greater need. It is for
families living in poverty who need help to create financial stability. The U.S. welfare state
arguably emphasizes incentives to keep people employed, at whatever job and wage level, more
than any other country. (Drogus and Orvis 588) Every state has their... Show more content on

Many Americans were unhappy with the welfare system, claiming that individuals were abusing
the welfare program by not applying for jobs, having more children just to get more aid, and
staying unmarried so as to qualify for greater benefits. [1] Welfare should be used as a helping tool
to allow unemployed people to get back on their feet. It should not be abused and turned into a way
of life. It brings a class of people to be dependent on the state, and at times indefinitely dependent. As
a result, growing poverty, unemployment, and inequality still remain recent
Greek Orthodoxy Research Paper
The first meaning of Orthodoxy was true teaching, which means that the Orthodox Church believed
that tradition was the most important way to practice their tradition. However, the Greek Orthodox
church prefers to define Orthodoxy as true praise. This means that they think praising and glorifying
God through certain activities is more meaningful. The Greek Orthodox church also puts an
emphasis on the Holy Trinity and believes that the Holy Spirit can unite humans with Jesus Christ
(Fitzgerald 2590). The fundamental ideas of Greek Orthodox include tradition, baptism, Eucharist,
and Theosis. St. George s church in Des Moines embodies these central practices and even engenders
their own specific ways to practice Christianity.

The process of theosis is meant to bring Christians closer to God and become more holy. There is
a common belief among Christians that there should be a relationship with God throughout life,
and not just after death. Therefore, theosis is the movement of love toward God which begins for
each Christian with the rites of Baptism and which continues throughout life, as well as the life
which is to come (Fisher). The theosis that the Eucharist embodies is lived during mass at St.
George s in Des Moines. Greek Orthodox Christianity is lived in Des Moines today in the church
of St. George. During the services, it is typical to have chanting of both English and Greek. The
amount of Greek has slowly lessened. At this time, the service is about half Greek and half English.
Although the languages differ for Greek Orthodox and Catholics, the sign of the cross is prominent
for both religions. At any time during the service, implementing the sign of the cross is completely
acceptable.(Greaver
Essay Shouldice Hospital Case
1Model Shouldice Hospital as a processing operation with products, attributes and resources.
2What are its competitive priorities?
3What kind of market has it chosen to focus on?
Shouldice Hospital follows the business model of focus on a single standardized service for a
narrow target of consumers, rather than to provide customized solution (as in a general clinic or
hospital). It focuses on providing quick, convenient, and reliable cure for external types of
abdominal hernias. The Hospital uses its own technique, called the Shouldice Method and claims to
provide relatively short post operative recovery period.
Shouldice Hospital focus on hernia repair surgery which is mostly performed on males. Shouldice

4How does its operations strategy support its business strategy?
Shouldice Hospital had an excellent well developed, focused service delivery system. The business
strategy was to not only provide its patients with a quick, quality and low cost surgery but also
providing an unforgettable experience and comfortable environment in the facility.
Operations Keys for successful business strategy:
Warm and friendly environment
1)Hospital is carpeted to get rid of the feel and helps in reduce disinfecting smell. The objective is to
have friendly environment that will help patient recuperate faster.
2)Patients are given rooms that they share with a roommate generally from a similar professional
background or shares similar hobbies. This encourages building of partnerships and sharing of
medical notes.
3)Patients are encouraged to enjoy their meals in the common cafeteria, so that they get a chance to
interact not only with other patients but also with other doctors.
Appropriate market segment to keep cost low.
1)Healthy people who are perceived to heal and recover faster are admitted to hospital to keep the
duration of the patient stays down. New patients are admitted with a higher frequency rate.
2)Hospital is a non profit organization; cutting down on patient stays reduces costs substantially.
3)If patient is healthy enough to walk around the place, his linen need not be washed regularly
(after he leaves) and he does not need bed

a.Prior period adjustment.
b.Change in estimate (2009 event).
A prior period adjustment is a correction, for an accounting error, on the financial statements of a
prior year. ASC 250 10 50 7 states that when financial statements are restated to correct an error, the
entity shall disclose that its previously issued financial statements have been restated, along with a
description of the nature of the error. The entity also shall disclose ...the cumulative effect of the
change on retained earnings or other appropriate components of equity or net assets in the statement
of financial position. The adjustment to the estimate is not a correction due to an error. Therefore, it
should not affect or restate retained earnings or liabilities recorded in prior periods
The company should report the change in the contingency accrual as a 2009 event due change in
estimate. ASC 250 10 45 17 specifies that a change in accounting estimate shall not be accounted for
by restating or retrospectively adjusting amounts reported in financial statements of prior periods.
Additionally, ASC 450 20 25 7 indicates that all estimated losses for loss contingencies shall be
charged to income rather than charging some to income and others to retained earnings as prior
period adjustments .

Comparing Scandal In Bohemia And The Blue Cross
Scholars have tried for centuries to figure out human nature; does there really exist a set of
behavioral traits that all people share? Is it really possible to predict the actions of any person based
on the past? A Scandal in Bohemia from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Blue Cross
from The Innocence of Father Brown by G.K. Chesterton both attempt to answer these questions,
albeit in different ways. Sherlock Holmesreliance on humannature fails him as the criminal, Irene
Adler, ends up outsmarting him. However, Father Brown s less obvious pursuit of Europe s famed
criminal ends up fruitful while using a similar method. The two authors choose to have their
detectives rely on human nature(with different outcomes) to show that... Show more content on

He enters Irene Adler s home and, with Watson s help, sees the woman take the letter out of her
hiding place. While walking home, he tells Watson when a woman thinks that her house is on fire,
her instinct is at once to rush to the thing which she values most (Doyle 16). Holmes thinks that
he s outsmarted the criminal, but when he goes to retrieve the letter finds a different one in its
place. In one section of the letter, Adler writes well, [she] followed [Holmes] to [his] door, and so
made sure that [she] was really an object of interest to the celebrated Mr. Sherlock Holmes (19).
While his reliance on human nature was enough to have the location of the letter revealed to him, he
ends up being beaten anyways. Adler writes that [she] had been warned against [Holmes] months
ago. [She] had been told that if the King employed an agent, it would certainly be [Holmes] (19).
She uses her own knowledge of human nature paired with outside information to outsmart the
detective. Where Holmes trusted completely in his own knowledge, Adler utilized an outside
warning to realize what had actually happened. Simply relying on human nature wasn t enough for
Sherlock Holmes, and Doyle uses this to show that not only is human nature very complex, but it s
also not always completely useful in and of
Analyzing The Song Stairway To Heaven By Led Zeppelin
The favorite song I chose is Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, which features topics of
mistakes and how we can change for the better. The song begins by telling about a lady who s
sure all that glitters is gold. This shows that the lady is selfish, and her purchasing of a stairway to
heaven means that she is also rich and greedy, because she knows If the stores are all closed/With
a word she can get what she came for (Page 4 5). Towards the end of the song, we learn that the
lady has changed her ways and has let go of her old self, which shows characterization by the
songwriter. This classic rock song is accompanied by a theme of hope and being able to change. If
you re going down the wrong path and you think you re running out of time,
Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay
Symbolism enhances the meaning of even a simple painting. It is when a person looks at the images
in the painting and tries to understand why the painter made those images while another person
looks at it and just calls it dumb without even trying to understand it. The latter person completely
loses faith in the painting and misses the actual point. When people first read The Scarlet Letter, they
notice not only the characters, but also the objects, which may be non living, but carry tons of
meaning. They no longer view everything as random occurring objects in our daily lives or as a
mere coincidence, but try to find the specific reasons of them occurring in the story. All sorts of
questions rose in mind: Why did Hawthorne use the red... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pearl s presence gives Hester a reason to live and augments her spirits whenever she loses hope.
Pearl, just like the literal meaning of her name, is really precious to her mother and represents the
passion and spirit the sin provoked in Hester.
The Meteor
The meteor also plays a vital role in The Scarlet Letter. In Chapter 12, when the meteor makes the
letter A in the sky, it is a reminder of the same sin made by Hester to Dimmesdale. It implies that the
letter A should also be worn by Dimmesdale. But the rest of the society interprets the meteor
differently. They think it stands for Angel denoting the entry of the Governor into heaven.
The Red Color
While red personifies Hester s passion as well as hope and love. For example, the red letter, the
red rose bush and Pearl s red dress. Just like Hester doesn t fit in the Puritan society, the wild rose
bush outside prison doesn t fit in the place it grows. The red light shining through the room when
sunlight passes through the red window symbolizes how Hester s passion is spreading among the
society.
The Black Color
Hawthorne uses black to symbolize evil, the worst of someone and the darkness that conceals the
truth. Hester describes the prison as the black flower of the civilized society , Pearl s eyes as small
black mirrors and Satan as The Black Man in the forest.
The Gold Color
The way the letter was
Margo Maultasch Alternate Ending
A furious Margo Maultasch jerked back from the Mirror of Crystals as a fountain of water
popped from the surface. Her outrage was toward two boys who had somehow destroyed a
crystal, and she was livid that they had ruined her new grunter, who was causing such delightful
chaos. As she regained control of her temper, she realized the need to speed her plan for taking
the Harbor River Valley; the power to destroy a crystal had to be dealt with. Ritter, she yelled as
she tapped her long, pale, bony fingers on her black sleeve. Ritter Red, she snarled, turning toward
the hallway, angry at his slow response. Ritter Red runs in from the hall barely missed bumping into

Middle School Experience
Middle schoolers are going through big changes in their lives, physically, emotionally, and mentally.
They are going through puberty and making and losing friends. While they are going through this,
they do not want to go to class and listen to their teacher ramble on about something they have no
interest in. I have noticed that in middle schools today, students dread going to their classes. When
I asked the students that were in my field experience class why they did not like going to their
classes, the answers they gave was that the material being covered was not interesting and that there
was not enough activities to have fun with. I will get to know my students before I plan any
learning activities and assessment to make sure I can appeal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If the community a student comes from does not value education, the chances that the student does
not value education either are very high. But if the community supports education immensely then
the student will be more invested in their education. The same goes for a student s family. If the
family promotes manual work over education, the student will be more likely to pay less attention to
their education, whereas a family that promotes education will most likely have a student that
focuses their attention on their education. Business partners of schools can also have a big impact
on students. For example, my mother s friend is a branch manager at a bank and during the month of
April (financial literacy month), they go around to schools and teach students about personal
finances. I believe that this program should be incorporated into middle schools since it involves
financial literacy. Many students get to high school and college and do not know how to handle their
money. They have to learn the hard way and make mistakes along the way. I believe this program
would help them in their future because they will have a foundation to build their financial literacy
on. This also promotes real world knowledge that students can relate to which then they can use it in
a career later on. The enrichment of the curriculum and instruction is another big influence for
students and directly impacts
