ETHICS AND FIQH FOR EVERYDAY LIFE

(UNGS 2050)
ASSIGNMENT 1

MOHD AZWAN BIN JUPERI

0924161
SECTION 10
ASSOC. PROF. DR.HANAPI MOHD NOR

1) Explore a question of moral right and it would be addressed by islam and by ethical system based
on secularism.

Islam and Secularism.

Saudi scholars denounce secularism as strictly prohibited in Islamic tradition. The Saudi Arabian
Directorate of Ifta , Preaching and Guidance, has issued a directive decreeing that whoever believes
that there is a guidance (huda) more perfect than that of the Prophet, or that someone else s rule is
better than his is a kafir.
It lists a number of specific tenets which would be regarded as a serious departure from the precepts
of Islam, punishable according ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It must be mentioned that the concept of secular ethics is not necessarily opposed to or inherently
contrasting with religious ethics. Certain sets of moral beliefs, such as the golden rule or a
commitment to non violence, could be held by each position and mutually agreed upon. As well, it
must be mentioned that secular ethics have been developed differently given the different times and
different situations faced.

Principles of Secular ethics

Secular ethicists generally share one or more principles: Human beings, through their ability to
empathise, are capable of determining ethical grounds. Human beings, through logic and reason,
are capable of deriving normative principles of behaviour. This may lead to a behaviour
preferable to that propagated or condoned based on religious texts. Alternately, this may lead to
the advocacy of a system of moral principles that a broad group of people, both religious and non
religious, can agree upon. Human beings have the moral responsibility to ensure that societies and
individuals act based on these ethical principles. Societies should, if at all possible, advance from a
less ethical and just form to a more ethical and just form.
Many of these tenets are applied in the Science of morality, the use of the scientific method to answer
moral questions. Various thinkers have framed morality as questions of empirical truth to be
explored in a scientific context. The science is related to Ethical
Education For Leisure Carol Ann Duffy
In her poem Education for Leisure , Carol Ann Duffy gives insight on troubled teenagers, by
portraying an extremely despondent narrator. The troubled disposition, is a direct result of
constantly being neglected by those around, as the narrator himself states: I have had enough of
being ignored. His ensuing killing spree, is therefore an attempt to make his voice heard, and
through this Duffy makes a powerful statement: that those who are scorned by society, may attempt
to gain the attention they desire, by using even the most unorthodox of methods. The dreary
atmosphere portrayed in his words, along with his morose descriptions of the world around him,
capture the narrators melancholy, and it is thus Duffy s brilliant choices regarding... Show more

Having been constantly neglected, the narrator describes the world around him as a sort of grey
with boredom , and this is perhaps a fair reflection of the dullness he feels in his life. Like the
narrator s journey, the poem begins in a dark manner, and spirals downwards, becoming before
depressing, until the we are left with an uncertain, twisted and ultimately haunting conclusion. The
narrator s dismal intentions are matched by an equally dreary tone, as we are aware from the
beginning that he has been driven to the point of killing in order to gain attention, and as the events
leading to the homicide ensue, we begin to understand the circumstances of the narrator, and the tone
becomes increasingly desolate, in order to reflect the emptiness he feels as a result of his neglection.
The ambiguous ending of the poem is reflected in the twisted realization of the narrator, as he finds
some sort of enlightenment in killing. The pavements glitter suddenly and he moves forward to kill
with newfound
Articles Of Confederation Flaws
The Articles of Confederation were a failure due to how weak they were. The United States had
just fought their way out of tyranny, and because of that they gave all the power to the states, as
to ensure no abuses of power, which ultimately didn t give the government means to rule
efficiently. For example, Congress could not tax, so inflation was caused by their overprinting.
There was no national army, so when tensions arose, congress had to beg for troops, making the
U.S. weak and vulnerable. Also, congress did not have the power to control commerce, so states
made their own monet, which could not be used state to state. Furthermore, there was no head
figure to enforce any of the rules of the Articles, which only hastened the falling apart of the articles
because there was no one person to enforce laws. Shay s rebellion was the final straw that led to the
Constitutional Convention. In the construction of the constitution they were very careful not to
repeat their mistakes. For example, they gave congress power to tax, draft, control money, as well
as the the other issues where congress lacked necessary power. The... Show more content on

Virginia plan placed a lot of power in the legislative branch, and had a system very similar to the
one we use today. The branch is split up into two houses, the House of Representatives, as well as
the Senate. The number of officials in these institutions would be based solely on population, or
their contribution to the federation. They would be voted on by the people, for the House of
Reps, and the Senate would then be chosen by government officials. This was a very scary plan to
the smaller states, who much rather favored the New Jersey plan. This option outlined a very equal
playing field for all states. There is a one house legislature system, with equal representation across
the board. All decisions were made based on the state s
Religion And Politics And Religion
Religion and politics are two topics that should never be discussed. The reasoning behind this
statement is because both are very controversial, especially religion. The term religion in itself does
not have a proper definition because it varies based on what an individuals response the question of:
what is religion? Throughout history, religions and belief systems have been associated with wars,
persecution, diasporas, etc., which ultimately infers that religion is at the core of violence, hatred
and exclusion. A main reason for these emotions of such negatively is due to the incapability of
individuals to be understanding of the beliefs of others, and the ignorance that surrounds what
religions consist of. The essence of religion is classified as faith, which ultimately leads to ignorance
on the behalf of the one with faith and on society as a whole, due to lack of evidence and a
preconceived notion to whom God truly is.
Understanding religion means understanding the discrepancies within a majority of sacred
scripture. The reason to specifically focus on scripture is due to it being the core of many religions,
especially those that evolved from Abraham. According to Oxford Dictionaries, the term ignorance
refers to: lack of knowledge or information. Alongside that definition the term faith means: strong
belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.
Every religion is about a lack of evidence to support certain
Mobile Phone Addiction
The problem of mobile phone addiction (1010words) Nomophobia, the fear of being out of
mobile phone contact. The phrase was coined by a U.K. study commissioned by SecurEnvoy as
an abbreviation for no mobile phone phobia. According to an article, 77% of the 18 24 age group
revealed nomophobia. If a person doesn t have his or her cell phone, and feels uncomfortable trying
to respond to real life situations without it, experts warn this is addiction. In Hong Kong, it is not
hard to find teenagers using their phones. Traveling on vehicles, having lunch in restaurants, you can
see youths using their phones wherever and whenever their hands are free. They cannot refrain from
using mobile phones, many of them even use their mobile in class... Show more content on

Secondary schools could forbid students to use mobile phones in the school campus, otherwise will
receive a warning. Students are forced to change their habits under this penalty system. This
solution is only applicable in secondary school, but not university. As university is the study of
adulthood, advocating freedom and rights, so they cannot use this one way communication and
treat the university students like children. However, students may use their phones secretly, under
the table or in the toilet. Teachers cannot monitor the students everywhere and every second.
They have many things to do in class, such as giving out notes to students, and writing important
words onto the blackboard. So, this may not be an effective way to solve the problem. The best
solution is that the schools add a compulsory course related to mobile phone use. Firstly, the
course may show an analysis about the reasons why teens are holding their phones all the times,
and the ways to correct their bad habit pinpointing to the reasons. For example, self esteem is one
of the reasons of the addiction like behavior. Some teens think that receiving a phone call or a text
message implies that somebody wants me . It boosts the receivers self esteem and self worth. Then,
the school may need to think of a solution to this reason, may be to boost the teens self esteem in
another way. Aside from that, the course may also include the bad
Derek Walcott s Omeros and St Lucia Essay
Omeros and St Lucia

Derek Walcott amp;#8217;s Omeros is an epic story which fits well into the classical tradition. Its
numerous echoes of Homeric writing combined with the use of characters amp;#8217; names from
Homer amp;#8217;s stories are clear evidence to the fact that there is a major parallel to Homer
amp;#8217;s Iliad and Odyssey. There is no debate in this obvious fact. Omeros and Derek Walcott
amp;#8217;s writing, however, are much more than a mere reproduction of classical Greek and
Roman themes. Arguing this fact is an insult to Walcott and his masterful work. There are specific
references in Walcott amp;#8217;s writing which make this work more than a reproduction of

The French and English had many battles near this island, including the Battle of Cul de Sac and the
Battle of the Saintes, which has a significant impact in the pages of the poem. Major Plunkett, in his
analyzation of the history of St Lucia, becomes very interested in an Ensign Plunkett, who (only in
Omeros) is part of the Battle of the Saintes. Today, St. Lucia is a multicultural democracy which
became independent from English rule in 1979.

This conflict of these two European powers is a theme which Walcott carries over to the story. In
Omeros, Walcott uses Achille and Hector to show the struggle between these two nations. In one
place, Walcott says, amp;#8220;...An island called Helen..., ; Bk 2, XIX, i). Obviously, this is a
clear reference to Helen being used as a figure of St. Lucia. He uses Achille and Hector
amp;#8217;s mutual pursuit of Helen to signify France (Hector) and England (Achille)
amp;#8217;s constant struggle for the control of St. Lucia. This struggle is seen from very early
on in the story: amp;#8220;The duel of the fisherman/was over a shadow and its name was Helen ;
(Bk 1, III, i). When Hector sells his boat while Achille remains a fisherman, it makes reference to
the Navy of England amp;#8217;s domination over that of the rest of the world. At first, we see that
Helen is with Hector when she
Temperature Analysis Of Temperature During The Summer
Temperature Analysis

The expectations I held when first given this assignment are echoed in the conceptual models
presented in the guidance document: locations situated close to the ocean ought to exhibit cooler
temperatures during the summer months while maintaining slightly warmer temperatures during the
winter and that more inland locations should display slightly higher temperatures within the summer
time but lower temperatures during the winter months. This expectation was largely influenced by
the knowledge I have incurred while living in a coastal area: wind and surf carry cooler air to the
coast during the summer while carrying warmer air to land during the winter. Upon reviewing the
recorded temperatures within the six ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As these locations have similar enough latitudes, 27.9 and 28 degrees north respectively, it is
unlikely that the results are skewed. Continuing to follow the notion proposed within the given
conceptual model, the southern stations showed that the inland city of Devil s Garden
experienced substantially colder winters compared to the winter time temperatures seen in Miami
Beach. Encountering an average winter temperature of 51.4 degrees, Devil s Garden is
approximately 12 degrees cooler than Miami Beach s average minimum winter temperature of
63.6. These locations, however, did not exhibit such a large disparity in summer time
temperatures with Devil s Garden s maximum average displayed at approximately 92 degrees and
Miami Beach s maximum average displaying exactly 87 degrees. Upon further investigation, it
appears that the discrepancy in average temperatures between the locations is perhaps caused by a
sizable difference in latitudes with Devil s Garden situated at 38.8 degrees north compared to
Miami Beach situated at 25.8 degrees north. This divergence is the most likely responsible for
Miami Beach s high summer temperatures as areas in lower latitudes often experience warmer
weather in addition to the fact that the beach is located closer to the equator. To compare coastal
stations, it is clear that the second conceptual model is reasonably correct when asserting

First Confession
Faith is a constant struggle here on earth due to lack of understanding, wealth of experiences, and
influences that sometimes outweigh our own. In the story First Confession by Frank O Connor a
young boy named Jackie is in a struggle of faith. O Connor uses first person to immerse the reader
in the young boy s thoughts and situation. This young boy must balance his lack of understanding,
his own experiences, and the influences of others to find hope that he can still be redeemed in his
first confession. O Connor sets the scene with a young malleable boy at the center and a swirl of
influences and inexperience to show a struggle to understand faith. Jackie is scared to go to his first

Jackie after being drug to confession, tormented by his own thoughts and the constant nagging of
his sister, was now at the one place where his judgment would be weighed and finalized. This was
the precipice of Jackie s story, the moment of truth, face to face with the priest who would consult
with God and hand him his penance. Instead of condemning Jackie to hell or sending him to the
bishop for further reprimand, the priest says: Someone will go her with a bread knife one day,
and he won t miss her...You must have great courage Jackie... I ve thought of doing the same (O
Connor 283). Here was a priest confessing to Jackie that at one point or another he had the same
thoughts, the same sins, and had sat exactly where Jackie had. Jackie and this priest in this moment
bonded for life, to the point where Jackie didn t even want to leave. With a gracious judgment and
only the penalty of three Hail Marys, and some candies for his journey home, the priest sent Jackie
on his way. Now this influence was unlike the rest for Jackie. Jackie had a treacherous and mean
grandmother whom he attempted to kill, a conniving sister whom he tried to slice, a condemning
teacher, and an absent father, but here is a priest that showed love and kindness. This influence
outweighed the others. This influence not only affected him and his view on faith, but lightened the
burden of the struggle, and
Student Veterans And Traditional Students
As the number of student veterans continues to increase within the university system, it is
imperative to examine both the similarities and the differences between student veterans and
traditional students (students without military experience), and what effect those differences may
have on student veterans ability to succeed. We surveyed thirty undergraduates at the Universityof
Alaska Anchorage, assessing their gradepoint average, age, hours spent studying, and various other
factors which we deemed our criteria for success . In doing so, we believed that we would find a
radical difference between the grade point average of student veterans compared to their traditional
counterparts. The data collected suggests that our hypothesis was correct: student veterans were a
letter grade behind their peers. This gap in achievement between the two groups suggests that student
veterans ability to adjust to life within the university system requires further examination. As more
veterans continue to seek higher education, it is essential that those within the university system
strive to understand, and alleviate some of the difficulties burdening this emerging demographic.

The findings of the research supports the claim that positive emotions accrued overtime by practicing
loving kindness meditation has the potential to enhance and strengthen positive emotions that can
influence a person and their surroundings, the effect the environment has on them and their genetic

mindfulness on a consistent basis, stating a person can learn to build up a reservoir of positive
immunity against some of life s challenges and stresses thereby reducing susceptibility to disease and
building capacity to minimize and bounce back from traumatic events. This goes to say that there are
real life consequences of positive emotions through loving kindness and meditation practice pointing
to improved health, prolonged life, and building up a foundational accumulation of a good outlook
on life that helps with coping, emotional stability, overall general well being and being able to
reciprocate emotional connection and support for others. Notably, this is the nontraditional approach

Financing a Worldwide Expansion Strategy for a Limousine...
Introduction My company has become quite successful, and is now considering an expansion. In
order to facilitate this expansion, we are considering purchasing a competitor. My company is a
limousine company, and we have expanded via franchising into a number of different states and
metro areas at this point. We are considering purchasing a rival that operates mainly in areas
adjacent to ours, with the objective of expanding our presence in those markets, and building our
brand. This strategy is part of a plan to grow the business nationwide. Valuation Methods There are
several valuation methods that can be used to analyze the competing company. These are adjusted
book value, capitalized adjusted earnings, discounted future earnings, the cash flow method and
the gross revenue multiplier (Collin.edu, 2013). Another technique is to base the valuation on the
stock market valuation of a similar company. In this case, most limousine services are not
publicly traded, so the stock market option is not available. Thus, the optimal method will come
from the other five options. The adjusted book value of the operation is based on the idea that we
are paying for the firm s book value, in particular with the book value of the assets or the book
value of the equity. This is a decent option, since we can expect to utilize our own brand, therefore
the important part of the purchase is the assets that we are acquiring, everything from cars to drivers
to customer contacts. However,
The Five Characteristics Of The Five Factor Model...
The five factor model personality theory states that an individual s personality consists of five
general traits. These traits are extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and
openness (King, 2016, pg. 475). Each of the traits are put in a certain order according to how they
appear from the factor analysis (King, 2016, pg. 475). Factor analysis is a method that
researchers used to group together similar traits which are used to describe personality (King,
2016, pg. 475). In the trait sequence, neuroticism is the first trait and it is the trait that describes a
pessimistic personality or someone who lacks confidence and a positive mindset (King, 2016,
pg. 476). Extraversion is the opposite trait of neuroticism and is the trait that individuals who are
social and able to interact well with others portray (King, 2016, pg. 476). Openness is being
receptive to various creative views and the ability to express oneself in a unique, individualistic
manner (King, 2016, pg. 476). The agreeableness trait describes a personality aspect where the
individual is dedicated to good deeds and believes in the potential that people have to be good
(King, 2016, pg. 476). The last trait of the five factor model theory is conscientiousness which is
the trait is used to describe an individual who is dependable and attentive to their actions (King,
2016, pg. 477). These five traits are referred to as the big five because they are general categories in
which other similar traits

including the word American spelled backwards. Miner bring to the readers attention the odd rituals
practiced in America that the normal citizen would not find strange at all. However, by presenting
his essayin the this form he shows how strange American customs are from the view of someone
in a different country. Miner begins his essay by describing the American culture as if it were a
tribe. Although he does so secretly, Horace Miner does state that the tribe is located between
Canada and Mexico. He then states that they have an a developed market, yet they re main
concern is on the body. He then goes on to talk about the ritual areas in the homes on the
Nacirema people, bathrooms, where the people practice they re odd rituals. He does not use direct
terms for the medicine men, nor any of the other physicians that are seen in the daily lives of
American people. Miner continues this process while only leaving slight hints. Horace Miner does
a terrific job in this satire. Once view of this paper is noticed, the reader can be entertained by the
mysterious ways of the Nacerima people. This essay has brought attention to the ways of American
culture, which is not only infomative but very entertaining. Prompt #2 never run, just WALK and
