Analysis Of Alan Berliner s Intimate Stranger
Alan Berliner s Intimate Stranger is an unconventional documentary in several respects. Most
fundamentally, the subject of the film is Joe Cassuto, the filmmaker s grandfather. Over the course
of the film, many of Berliner s relatives are interviewed, all with a different perspective on why Joe
Cassuto would not be an interesting subject for a documentary. The idea of the anti protagonist runs
through the entire film, and this directorial challenge is only exacerbated by the small amount of
archival footage of Cassuto. Given these conditions, the film has the potential to lack the context and
information necessary to immerse the audience in the film. However, the film creates an engaging
narrative through continuity of style and sound.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other most prominent noise in the film is a bright typewriter ding. The ding noise, in literal
terms, means that the writer has reached the end of a line, and must now return the carriage back to
its starting position. In the film, Alan Berliner takes advantage of this thought process conditioned in
the audience and uses the noise like an aural comma, separating ideas and anecdotes. The ding
punctuates sentences like What was more important to him? His being a part of the future of Japan?
Or this family? Immediately afterwards, the film discusses the nature of Japanese workspaces, and
the ding has acted like the beginning of a new paragraph. These noises refuse to let the audience
ignore the pacing of the film, and Berliner wants the viewer to understand the thousands of active
choices he made. Overall, Alan Berliner uses the sound motif of the typewriter to create the structure
and timing Intimate Stranger.
For the archival scenes of the film, Berliner combines sound effects and editing to add depth to the
footage. At certain points the connection between voice and action is so literal that it resembles a
madrigal s word painting. As one of Joe s daughters says the words everything stopped, the film of
her as a child freezes. As the audience recognizes this conscious choice, they have to pay more
attention to what was just said. The archival film serves to directs all attention to the narration. From
Berliner s diary: I
I Am Proud At The United States Essay
When I came to the United States three years ago, I didn t know how to speak English at all. I
started learning this new language after only speaking Spanish for 16 years; it was certainly an
intimidating and daunting challenge. I thought it was going to be impossible for me to learn English
in time to attend a respectable university, since my surrounding peers were constantly discouraging
me. Through hard work and determination, I managed to learn how to fluently read and write
English like a native speaker in just a year and a half. I am blessed enough to say that I now attend
one of the most prestigious universities in the United States. Initially, I was ignorant to the potential
that laid dormant within me. Now, I understand that we, as people, limit ourselves by paying
attention to limitations rather than our ability to permeate and conquer them. Focusing on our limits
hinders our progression and prevents us from achieving our full potential. Society inculcates us with
the idea that we are born with a predetermined future, to which some of us who lack critical thinking
skills become robotically attached. We are raised with prearranged boundaries, consequently, keeping
our minds away from revolutionary ways of thinking. Instead of being encouraged to think outside
of the box, we are conditioned to remain inside that box. This is a violence that we ourselves
perpetuate; we hurt ourselves by underestimating our ability to transcend beyond these artificial
boundaries

the benefits of having music in education. Providing music as part of education helps develop
intelligence that leads to greater success in school and in life. Everyone from VH1 Save The Music

Michael E. DeBakey. M.D. says, Studying music encourages self discipline and diligence, traits
that carry over into intellectual pursuits and that leads to effective study and work habits. Dr,
Fredrick Tims also says that music education can result in significant decreases in anxiety,
depression, and loneliness will definitely result in a person being more relaxed, and having more
success in life. General Norman Schwarzkopf of the U.S. Army, retired said, During the Gulf War,
the few opportunities I had for relaxation I always listened to music, and it brought to me great
peace of mind.
I think music education is very important and is very beneficial in many ways not just to children
but to everyone. Norman Schwarzkopf says, What a tragedy it would be if we lived in a world
where music was not taught to children. With efforts from VH1 Save the Music, and The National
Association for Music Education, schools that did not have music now are being given instruments
and money for their learning programs. This is helping kids all across America benefit from a
complete education. VH1 Save the Music reports about a boy, Troy Boston, and in closing I would
like to quote their story to show just how, in many ways music is benefiting his life.

Theodor Herzl
Initially, Zionism was the major cause of the formation of the State of Israel. It was established by
Theodor Herzl in 1897 and later led by Chaim Weizmann. Mr. Herzl was an assimilated Jewish
lawyer from Vienna that fully understood the Jews. He quoted once, Zionism demands for a
publicly recognized and legally secured homeland in Palestine for the Jews. This platform is
unchangeable . The quote means that Zionism was established to request and achieve a homeland
for the Jews in Palestine and that no one can stop this from happening. Basically, this proves that
Mr. Herzl was a very supportive man towards the Jews and He understood what they needed. In
1894, Mr. Herzl was sent to France to investigate on the life imprisonment of a Jewish
Overview Of Plato And Plato s Theory Of The Four Forms
Throughout history, many philosophers have discussed the question: is human behavior driven by
the mind (logic) or is it driven by a greater force (soul)? This question has been a major topic of
many philosophical discussions. This debate has caused many philosophers to give potential
answers to the problem, yet no one agrees on one idea. Of these potential answers, two well known
ones are Plato s Theory of Forms and Aristotles Theory of the Four Causes. Despite their common
focus on knowledge, the two philosophers differ in their beliefs in how knowledge is obtained.
Plato places a bigger emphasis on the soul being the source of true knowledge, while Aristotle
argues that true knowledge comes from logic and reason. Of the two, Aristotle... Show more content

True knowledge is information that cannot be refuted or even argued against. In his mind, true
knowledge is absolute truth. Plato uses his Theory of the Forms to explain the nature of
everything in existence. In Phaedo, Plato gives the example of why a beautiful person or a
beautiful object truly has beauty. Plato argues that if anything is beautiful besides absolute
beauty it is beautiful for no other reason than because it partakes of absolute beauty; and this
applies to everything (Phaedo 100c). In order for people to identify something that is beautiful,
we must have a general understanding of beauty as an abstract concept. This means that people
have the ability to identify a person or object as beautiful because the person or object is
participating in the general form of beauty. This general form of beauty cannot be seen nor
change; it is unlike people and objects in the visible world which can lose their beauty. Just as
with the idea of beauty, Plato argues that his Theory of Forms applies to all of reality of stating
that there is a form for every concept that there exists. These forms are eternal and unchanging,
unaffected and unhindered by the ever changing nature of the visible world. The ambiguity of the
concept of the forms in Plato s Theory of Forms lessens the strength of Plato s overall argument.
Plato uses the concept of the forms as the basis of many of his
Witchcraft Female Sexuality
Witchcraft and Female Sexuality The power of lust toward women has always been a way to uplift
a community while creating a threat to men. Women were thought of as healers only to be
persecuted for their natural maternal instinct. The ability to both heal a body and an erection gave
women in 1692, a horrible fate ending in death or excommunication from their church. The way of
women to have the sensual touch and to fulfill the desires in the darkness of night led many to
believe women to hold a certain power over men. The warm mouth of the womb desired by many a
man could only divert the temptation and cause of the man or womanto sway to the dark side. The
Devil is known to work his evil intent on that of the idiotic woman who hath no thought for herself.

Karlsen tells of the Devil s seduction in Witches Historians, But the erotic power witches were
thought to wield over possessed females was only rarely explicit during possession; when openly
mentioned, it was not the witch but the Devil himself who seduced female bodies and promised to
satisfy women s carnal desires. (Mappen 121) The sexual appetite of witches was thought to be on
the prowl for young girls and the unmarried to sign their name in the Devil s book. Helping take
part in planting the seed of evil on this newfound Garden of Eden the Puritans believed they
inhabited.
The underlying factor of possession was known as the witches way of working with the Devil to
carry out the necessary diabolism. Possession is a way to recruit younger girls to do the Devil s
work. This can be seen in many cases of accusation involved in the Salem Witch Trials. Older
widowed women blamed for possessing the adolescent girls of the village. Most witches were guilty
of seduction only in the minds of their accusers claims Karlsen (Mappen
Intellectual Property And Social Property Theft
Stealing is stealing whether you use a computer command or a crowbar, and whether you take
documents, data or dollars. It is equally harmful to the victim whether you sell what you have
stolen or give it away. Carmen Ortiz. While some of this statement is true, other parts of it are
without merit. There has been much confusion about the Internet and the new problems and
questions it brings to the table in terms of the court of law, and how law enforcement should deal
with it. Then comes the matter of Intellectual Property, and what it covers and how to integrate it
into the justice system. Intellectual Property is a grey area for many people and can also be a very
controversial matter. In this paper I will clear up some misconceptions... Show more content on

Granted, when it comes to Intellectual Property theft the original content creators never lose the
product/idea they came up with. All that is stolen is potential revenue which is mostly conjecture
and has never really been fully proven. Then the term IP theft does not really apply, it is counted
as some form of copyright infringement. Another term that usually comes up is the term Piracy.
As the author of the book Software Piracy Exposed puts it, Piracy is robbery, an infringement of
copyright, (Honick, 3). The Piracy scene needs a lot of involvement from many different people
with many different needs. It s much like a symbiotic relationship but between many different
people. It works like this: Crackers have skills that release groups want and release groups have 0
day releases that topsites and dumpsites want, (Honick, 2). There are many terms and names for
different things and groups of people, but what it comes down to is different people who
specialize in different aspects of the software piracy scene who give and take to and from each
other. In an interview with an unnamed hacker, the author of the book asks what he thinks of
piracy. The hacker gives his thoughts on why some piracy is okay. Piracy can be good for
software, he says. He goes on to explain how software piracy creates competition, and how
consumers control prices and consumers decide who gets rich, (Honick, 4). He then

Analysis Of Jim Mccormick s Short Story Breaking Through...
The two stories Breaking through Uncertainty and Neighbours are both stories about how big the
benefits are when risks have been taken. The first short story is about how a skydiver must
overcome his own uncertainty, to save himself from certain death. While the other story is still
dramatic, just in a different tone; it s about a young woman, who must decide whether or not a
friendship is worth standing up for something that s right. The protagonists in both stories, have to
take risks, and they re both rewarded for taking those risks; one with his life, and the other with a
stronger friendship. Even though the skydiver is risking his life, the protagonist in Neighbours had
more gut to do what she had to do, where is the skydiver just let second nature take over. Above all,
the protagonists both did experience serious risktaking moments, and they both benefited for the
greater good.

Breaking Through Uncertainty by Jim McCormick is about how a skydiver is plummeting to his
death, and he has got to figure out how to save himself. All the while the skydiver must deal with
his self doubt. In paragraph eight, we see actually how much danger the skydiver is in I looked
up to assess my canopy and saw something I don t often see; the horizon clearly visible ABOVE
the trailing edge of my canopy. The skydiver obviously now knows what the stakes are if he
messes up, which make his self doubt start to kick in. He starts to worry he s not going to do it, the

Castration And Animal Welfare
On my farm the issues that may arise that deal with animal welfare are just the basics, such as
testicle castration in the young males also just simply the way they are raised. I intend to run
everything by the local veterinarian to make sure that it s handled in the right manner. There are
several different methods of castration, however, they can be classified into 2 major groups;
physical, and hormonal. These groups can be divided further by technique but overall, it is removing
the testicles surgically, damaging them irreparably, or causing them to atrophy by stricture of the
blood supply achieves castration. I castrate my male calves a few hours after birth using a band
method. Some producers choose to not castrate until 2 to 4 months
