The Life Of The Landscape Essay
The landscape changed quite drastically as we left the lush rainforest behind and entered the semi
arid region in the South of Okanagan in British Columbia, Canada. Green fir trees made way for
golden rolling hills and scrubby terrain. Adding a splash of colour to the otherwise dry looking
terrain were the green vineyards perched against the gentle sloping hills. This might come as a
surprise, but Canada s only desert is home to a growing winecommunity with many award winning
wines being produced here. Welcome to Osoyoos.
As we approached the town, a large lake came into view. Osoyoos Lake is the warmest freshwater
lake in Canada and is surrounded by pristine vineyards along its perimeter. 37 wineries are now a
member of The Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association, a non profit organization with a goal to
develop the wine industry in Oliver and Osoyoos through education and promotion. While driving
through the region, we decided to visit a few well known and lesser known wineries and learn about
their history.
Stoneboat Vineyards
We passed many picturesque wineries as we drove through the valley, each offering wine tasting
to anyone who is keen to sample their BC wine. We stopped at Stoneboat Vineyards, a family
owned winery only 20 minutes from downtown Osoyoos. The lovely Julie Martiniuk greeted us,
who together with her husband Lanny, purchased a 15 acre orchard in 1979 and planted their first
vines in 1983. 40 Years later, they now have over 48 acres and are producing award
Central Purpose And Core Theme
Central Purpose and Core Theme
Author Sudhir Venkatesh wrote Gang Leader for a Day to produce an in depth ethnography on how
people make a living with the use of underground economies in marginalized communities. He does
so by providing descriptions of encounters with a crack selling gang named the Black Kings,
operating in Chicago, Illinois projects. The central take Venkatesh uses to explain how one makes
money and the most popular way that young African American males made money was by selling
drugs and, for this in depth ethnography, crack cocaine. He also gives much detail on other ways
that men make a living in the help of underground economies such as manual labor and selling
stolen goods. For women, prostitution, daycare services, and taking in boarders were among the
most profitable illegal services.
Venkatesh also elaborates on how people make a living by emphasizing in his work the theme of
community. When one is poor, their financial resources obviously are not adequate enough to have
all the required necessities to live comfortably like others in middle class and upper class
communities have. For example, if one cannot afford electricity, that person will trade or barter
with others the resources they do have in order to use their electricity. This Venkatesh found out
was a frequent way to get by in project living because it was rare that individuals could afford all
necessities at once thus emphasizing how working together as does a community made
Taking Care For Tip Over The Towering Stack Of Greasy...
Taking care not to tip over the towering stack of greasy plates and bowls in my bussing tub, I turn
away from the dining area and head quickly back towards the kitchen; smiling broadly to
customers as I weave in and out of the throng of loose beanie clad college kids surrounding the
buffets. Pushing my way through the swinging door, I let out a groan and drop my tub down on a
cart. It s not even eleven yet I whine to the dishkid, Matt, as I start clearing plates and tossing them
into one of the three large sinks. Matt groans in sympathy as he flings a flat of bowls out of the
washer; the resulting cloud of steam obscures his face from view and I don t catch his response.
Throwing the last, frosting crusted, plate into the greasy dish ... Show more content on

I struggle to get back on my feet as Taylor dies from laughing. Are you okay? she asks while
giggling, an adorable little smile on her face. I m good. I m good. I keep repeating; trying to
regain a cool persona. I walk it off while rubbing the back of my head. Matt pops his head out of
the doorway, What happened? he asks. Taylor s giggling intensifies as she motions towards my
back, which is soaking wet and covered in bubbles. You win. I state as I turn back towards her, My
hat touched the floor.
I smile and wink at her before she starts gloating. We ve been playing this game for a few months
now, and tonight the prize is a shake after work paid for by the loser. In this case, the loser is me.
I return back to cleaning high chairs and booster seats, all the while nursing a throbbing headache
and semi wounded ego. I finish closing the front and start helping Taylor close down her area. We
awkwardly struggle to place the stubborn saran wrap inside the salad line as Hannah, our new
inexperienced manager, walks up and says Hey, you guys are free to go as soon as you finish up.
Yessssssss! Taylor exclaims. We clock out and sit in the booth closest to the kitchen to wait for
Bridger and Dylan who are helping Matt close dish. Hannah walks out from the back with a bucket
of soapy water and tells us
The Tragic Cliff Essay example
The Tragic Cliff
Everyone needs a place to escape the everyday complications of life. Life has its ups and downs and
we all learn to deal with them in different ways. Some people use exercise to release stress while
others find places to hide from the stress for short periods of time.
I found a place of relaxation hundreds of feet above everyone looking down. Right outside of town
there is a cliff that overlooks the downtown area. There I feel as though I am above everyone and
nothing could touch me. I feel comfort just knowing I can observe thousands of people below me,
like looking at little ants through a microscope, yet no one can see me. Trees and bushes hover over
me like a blanket giving me shelter. It s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe we both developed a better understanding not only of each other, but of others as well. We
could have spent hours just talking, laughing, and really feeling alive. What we really found
hilarious and surprising was that Dubuque actually looked absolutely immaculate from such a
height. We would never have guessed the difference in appearance just by looking downward on the
city.
One of the first times my friend and I explored the cliff she found a ragged looking envelope with a
dated letter of desperation in it. It was addressed to Whom it May Concern, and its contents were
packed with problems, dreams, answers, and lies in a sing song pattern. We had to read it a
couple of times to fully consume the poetry and figure out the words that were erased from the
still damp paper. About three pages the poet went on about life in general. It really touched the
both of us and after that, we began to bring our poetry to the cliff and read aloud some of our
thoughts. We never did find out who the author of the poetic letter was, however, it gave us both
the feeling of new hope. I found it very refreshing to know that some people face life s obstacles
in such a creative way. The way I see it and I think the way the author of the poem sees it, is that
when in nature, and especially looking down upon the world, there is a distance you begin to take
on from that world, the world of the not so beautiful reality. I believe people
History Of The Siberian Husky
Siberian Husky, breed of working dog, which originated many centuries ago in that part of
northeastern Siberia inhabited by a people known as the Chukchi. The breed is used in Siberia as
a sled dog, watchdog, and pet. In the first decade of the 20th century it was imported into Alaska,
where it has since been used as a sled dogand particularly in the sport of sled team racing; most of
the present day records of this sport in Canada and the U.S. were set by teams of Siberian huskies or
by teams led by dogs of this breed. The Siberian husky is a medium size dog. The male is 53 to 60
cm (21 to 23.5 in) high at the shoulders and weighs 20 to 27 kg (45 to 60 lb); the female is 51 to 56

The Finnish War And The Soviet Union Essay
The Russo Finnish War, or Winter War, began on 30 November 1939 when the Soviet Union
invaded Finland. The objectives of the Red Army were simply, conquer and subjugate all of Finland
and re establish the borders that existed prior to the First World War. The Soviet Union held the
advantage in manpower, equipment, and resources, but the Finnish Army inflicted casualties on the
Red Armythat far exceeded their own. Not a single Red Army unit reached its initial objectives and
Stalin was forced to come to the negotiation table and make a peace that left Finland as a sovereign
state. The Finnish military was successful because the Red Army lacked competent leadership, didn t
have the proper equipment to fight in subzero temperatures, and the Finnish Army was able to adapt
to a changing environment and use their smaller numbers to their advantage. The gaping holes in
Soviet military capabilities helped fuel Hitler s willingness to initiate Operation Barbarossa.
Additionally, by invading Finland the Soviet Unionturned a disinterested and essentially neutral into
an enemy that had the capabilities to strike into the heart of Russia. The winter of 1939 1940 was
abnormally cold, the temperature rose above freezing only ten times during the entire campaign.
Many Russian soldiers lacked basic winter gear and suffered astonishingly high levels of frostbite,
some 132,213 of the 900,000 soldiers involved. While some soldiers were issued felt boots or

Scholar-Practitioner Model
The understanding I gathered from the term scholar practitioner is an individual that is
knowledgeable, experienced, and self motivation. One who is self sufficient and completely
committed to their practice. Their professional activities and the knowledge they develop are based
on collaborative and relational learningthrough active exchange within communities of practice and
scholarship. McClintock (2003) To me that means a scholar practitioner is one who gain knowledge
in social situations. Doctoral programs encourage its members to develop in passionate scholarship
often times by fostering a community of scholar practitioners immersed in a caring culture. Herbert

I ve been working at Arnia Software for more than 3 years (and counting). It s a great place to
work, I m surrounded by people that I can call, without any regret, my friends. This makes it a lot
easier every day. But the awards did not come because of my work at Arnia. I rarely do any
Magento projects here. I haven t worked on one in 2 years. Marcus award The nominations and
awards made me happy of course. It showed that the work I ve done so far is appreciated and
useful. It all started with the challenge I mentioned before. I had to learn Magento by myself.
Back then the old Magento forum was really slim with shady answers and I started answering
questions with challenges similar to what I had to make it easier for others. Years later
Magento.StackExchange came along and I shifted my focus there, mostly because the forum was
more spam than useful information. I had some free time at that point to answer questions. For a
lot of them, I didn t know the answer but they were interesting enough to make me dig further. That
helped me learn a lot as well. As for motivation, I have nothing more to say than always take a
hands on approach . I m not good at motivating people
`` This Be The Verse `` By Phillip Larkin
If you haven t already, you will one day. You will eventually find yourself encountering all the
critics when it comes to parenting. Whether it is the in laws, your own parents, or your friends and
family. Most people are under the impression that because they have managed to keep some human
beings alive, they have this whole parentingconcept on lock. Phillip Larkin s poem This Be The
Verse, challenges this perspective by hypothesizing that children s poor behavior and psychological
issues are all direct results of the way their parents raised them. Larkin blames his parents for
f*cking him up and points out that everyone s parents are at fault for f*cking us up. Such as, causing
kids to have abandonment issues, anxiety, and so on. Parents attempt to find the best ways to
produce an unf*cked child. Some parenting styles now being practiced are tiger parenting, free range
parenting and helicopter parenting. This paper is going to analyze how these parenting styles
contribute to children growing up with anxiety, narcissism, and low self esteem as well as discusses
the relative strengths and weaknesses of these styles.
The three styles of parenting that are mainly the focus right now are tiger parenting, free range
parenting, and helicopter parenting. Tiger parenting is a method brought into notice by Amy Chau
in her book The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. This practice consist of a mother raising her
children in a tradition Chinese way, which includes strict rules,
Skin Receptors Lab Report
Introduction:
The skin is the largest organ in the human body, it has many functions, for example, it helps regulate
body temperature, it protects the body against microbes and other harmful substances and it allows
the body to feel the sensation of touch, pain, heat and cold. The image on the right shows a cross
cut section of the parts and the layers of skin; firstly the epidermis, it is the outermost layer of the
skin.
Then there s the 2nd layer, the dermis, which contains the connective tissue, hair follicles, sweat
glands, nerves and sensory receptors. Lastly, the final layer of skin, the subcutaneous tissue

I believe that the method I complied was sufficient in helping me do so. Although there could ve
been some additions to make the method more valid, for instance, I did not change the beakers
filled with the water at different temperatures for all test subjects; this could have affected the way
the following subject reacted in the experiment. Because I didn t change the water, the temperature
at the start of the lesson could ve changed towards the end, since 4 people used the same beakers. A
way to improve this problem would be to change the beakers of water before testing each subject and
to ensure the temperatures remain the same throughout the experiment. A thermometer can be used
to determine what the temperature is for each beaker of
Chiquitas Global Turnaround
Executive Summary
This report details several international management problems that Chiquita has been faced with
over the past two decades. Many of these problems are to do with the company s previously poor
image when it came to Corporate and Social responsibility. Over the years Chiquita faced many
accusations about the conditions workers were faced with at many of their facilities in Latin
America and have also had their environmental policies questioned many times in the press. The
company has made great strides in recent years in improving their public image with regards to
corporate and social responsibility. In particular Chiquita s commitment to the Better Bananas
Project has helped improve their public image along with the ... Show more content on

For example, in 1998 Chiquita fell a victim of an undercover investigation into dangerous and illegal
business practices. The Cincinnati Enquirer, a paper based in Kentucky, accused the company guilty
of labour, human rights, environmental and political violations in central America, leaving an
unsavoury impression of our company according to Jeff Zalla, current corporate responsibility
officer at Chiquita. (Luthans, F., amp; P. Doh, J. 2012).
The centre of the debate about the CSR is the nature and extent of corporate obligations that extend
beyond the economic and legal responsibilities of the firm. The idea of social responsibilities
supposes that the corporation has not only economic and legal obligations, but also certain
responsibilities to society which extend beyond these obligations (McGuire, 1963: 144). The issue
is therefore critical for the firm as it is in the business s long term self interest to be socially
responsible. If Chiquita wants to have a healthy climate in which to function in the future, it must
take actions now to ensure its long term viability. Ultimately it will benefit the company by winning
the public because the public believe firms should take on social responsibility.

Science As A Nano Scientist
A Nano scientist specializes in areas of science such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, and
molecular biology. Becoming a Nano scientist can take up to nine years of schooling depending on
what degree is desired. Whether it be two years of college for an associate s degree, four years for a
bachelor s degree, six years for a master s degree, or nine years for a doctorates degree. Once all is
said and done the wage of a Nano scientist is very beneficial ranging anywhere from $40,000 to
$100,000 right out of college, and there is a very high demand for people graduating into this field.
As a result, graduating directly into a career as a Nano scientist is very promising.
Introduction
The evolution of society has always been clear, and even more so that science contributed to this
evolution. As a result, many people strive to be scientists, and in this study I will educate the reader
on the requirements to become: what I believe to be the future, a Nano scientist. By the simplest of
definitions, Nano science can be described as a convergence of physics, chemistry, materials science
and biology, which deals with the manipulation and characterization of matter on length scales
between the molecular and the micron size. Nano scientists are expected to perform research related
to formations at the atomic and subatomic levels. In addition, they must have excellent hand eye
coordination as well as persistence and patience. Above all, the reader must first decide if this seems
