The Laws Regarding Corporal Punishment
Straus (2001) defined corporal punishment as an act carried out with the intention of causing a child
to experience physical pain, but not injury, for purposes of correction or control (as cited in Straus
Paschall, 2009, p.459). Two of the most prominent and widespread kinds of corporal punishment
include slapping and spanking (Straus Paschall, 2009, p. 459 460). This paper will analyze the laws
regarding corporal punishment in many countries, the developmental theories such as the behavioral
cognitive, and sociocultural in the context of corporal punishment as well as the harmful effects of
corporal punishment on the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development of children in early
childhoodwhich ranges from two to six years of age. In many countries such as China, corporal
punishment represents an acceptable and necessary action to discipline children. However, in other
nations such as Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Israel, Italy, New Zealand,
Norway, and Sweden, corporal punishment is against the law (Berger, 2012, p. 310). Currently,
corporal punishment against children are legal in many U.S. states. Corporal punishment on children
is more common in southern states and families of lower socioeconomic statuscompared to states in
the New England region and families of higher socioeconomic status (Berger, 2012, p. 310). Corporal
punishment has destructive effects on the physical aspects of early childhood development. As

SUMMER
The Elephant Shrew
The Elephant Shrew is a type of shrew native to Africa. Their order is Macroscelidea and their
family is Macroscelididae. They have scaly tails and elongated snouts which gives them their
resemblance to elephants. Their legs, which are long for their size, are used for hopping around,
much like a rabbit. They use their noses and snouts to find prey such as spider, centipedes,
millipedes, earthworms, and insects.

It is the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant. The name of its species refers to
its camel like shape and it leopard like colors. They range all over Africa from Chad to the South
Africa to Niger and to Somalia. They live in savannas, grasslands, and open woodlands. They
primarily feed on acacia leaves. They find food at heights untouched by smaller animals.
The Mhorr Hazelle
The Mhorr Gazelle is a species gazelle that live in the Sahara Desert and the Sahel of Africa. It is a
critically endangered species and due to overhunting and habitat loss, their natural populations only
remain in Chad, Mali, and Niger. It lives in grasslands, shrubland, semi deserts, open savanna, and
mountain plateaus. They eat shoots, fruits, grasses, and leaves. They are particularly fond of acacia
leaves.
Southern White Rhinoceres
The Southern white rhinoceros is the most common and widespread rhinoceros in the world, having
a population of 17,640 in the wild. It is threatened by habitat loss, the high illegal demand of its
horn, and ongoing poaching. It has been part of small reintroduction projects over the years in many
places of the world, mostly in countries in
Renaissance In Europe
The Renaissance was a period of enlightenment influenced by classicalism, the rediscovery of greco
roman arts. It is considered the bridge between the Dark Ages and the Modern era. The movement
originated in Italy, the country that would eventually become the focal point for the rebirth of
Europe. Although Italyis attributed with creation of the Renaissance, its success was simply a result
of its relationship with the Islamic world. The Islamic world enabled Europes transition from the
Medieval period to the Renaissance.
Italy became the center of the Renaissance because of its immense wealth. It was necessary for a
society to be wealthy in order to support artists, for they were paid only through patronage, the

He then repaid his liabilities, and distributed the remainder of the spices all over Europe. Mariano s
immense profit encouraged the Venetian population to invest in the spice business. Eventually, the
Venetians controlled the trade of spices in Europe. Venice s trade in the pepper business was the
formative event in Venice s business relationship with the Islamic world. The Venetians also profited
from their adept shipbuilding and sailing. In 1082, the Byzantines established trade treaties with the
Venetians. This agreement was formally known as the Byzantine Venetian Treaty of 1082. The treaty
provided Venice with concessions, a product that is granted in response to demands, in return for
their help in the wars against the Normans. In 1453 the Byzantine Empire fell to the Arab Ottomans.
It was likely that this event would mark the end of the Venetian s concessions with Constantinople,
which was now Istanbul. Nonetheless, Venice was quick to form trade treaties with the Turks, the
new inhabitants of Constantinople. This mutually beneficial relationship with the Ottomans
eventually became one of the most successful trade relationships in history. The Venetians and the
Ottomans were logical trading partners. Venice lacked agricultural resources because of its
geography. Therefore, they imported an abundance of grains provided to them by the Ottomans. The
Ottomans plethora of grains was a result of them conquering Egypt and its Nile River,
My Life Changed Life And A Red Sweatshirt
I stepped off the bus with a changed life and a red sweatshirt. I know what you may be thinking,
and no, the sweatshirt didn t change my life. The sweatshirt did look pretty nice though it was a
lovely deep maroon with two white triangles that overlapped. But anyways, the design of the
sweatshirt (no matter how cool) is irrelevant.
The life changing event occurred just this past weekend, and I unfortunately, cannot narrow it down
to a precise moment. Ever since the day of the winter retreat was announced, I had been counting
down the days until December 9th. I was ready to spend time with my friends in my small group,
and I was even a little excited that my crush would be there too (even though I have yet to work up

I was nervous because our small group always consisted of girls in my grade, and now we were
going to have co ed small group for the weekend. Unfortunately, my crush wasn t in my group, but
that was okay. There were four boys, all from a rivaling school, and Sydney and I were the only
girls. Small groups with the boys was drastically different to what I was used to. In our all girl
group, we would talk on and on about random tangents. With the boys, their answers were short, and
part way through they would get restless and start walking around the spacious room.
Our first small group consisted of basic get to know you questions. When asked what store we
would spend $1,000 at, I said a music store, Sydney said Hot Topic, and all the boys said varying
sporting goods stores. It was a little awkward, but by the end of the weekend we all talked a bit
more freely amongst each other.
When small group ended, we went to the tabernacle for group worship. After singing a couple of
songs, the youth pastor came up and introduced us to who would be speaking for the weekend.
The man who taught us had also gone to our church growing up. He told us that he was once
exactly where we were. He launched into the message, where he talked about Peter laying down his
fishing nets to go follow Jesus. He then had us each take a notecard and write down what our nets ,
or things holding us back from having a close relationship with God, and then put them up on
Compare And Contrast Hyde And Frankenstein
Dantès is also shown to be similar to Frankenstein and Jekyll, in that the three are unable to escape
from their creations. Dantès and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same
person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create
a female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankensteins identity is called into
question here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his
word. The Creature s words show a parallel between himself and Hyde and Frankenstein and Jekyll:
You are my creator, but I am your master obey!
The verb obey causes the creator s identities to be reduced to that of slaves: Frankenstein is forced ...

When Dantès is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the
Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll
and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or
left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and Dantès, the Creature is never named. He is
constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s
point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s
perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written
from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a
monster by society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to
be dehumanised in a similar way to Dantès, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is
named, allowing Jekyll s view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by
society. Hyde s naturalness can said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin
found inside all of us. Dantès and the Creature are shunned by society when they are without a
name because they are distanced from society. Whilst Dantès distance is literal as he has been
taken away from Marseille, the Creature s distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein
and is in fact very close to society. His distance stems from his hideousness and the absence of a
name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his own identity which comes as an incredibly
hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the Creature in his struggle to be accepted:
Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this, however at the time of writing, readers
generally viewed the Creature as a

Ezra Pound: The Father of Modernism
Ezra Pound has been deemed one of Poetry s most important contributors. (Remembering Poets, 1).
T.S. Eliot and Donald Hall both believed Ezra Pound to be the biggest influence on poetry of his
time. (Poetry.org, 1). He was dedicated to his work, and from a young age, until his death in 1972,
he worked tirelessly, creating poetry that some deigned controversial, whether aesthetically or
politically. Those who did not find these controversial, the critics, the public, were too scared to read
his works. Pound however, never let any of this keep him from continuing to pursue his dreams and
do what he loved, writing poetry. Instead, he concentrated on advancing his art and maintaining his
standards with his aesthetics, while speaking out against these naysayers, showing them that he was
not intimidated by his adversaries.

Greek Orthodoxy Research Paper
The first meaning of Orthodoxy was true teaching, which means that the Orthodox Church believed
that tradition was the most important way to practice their tradition. However, the Greek Orthodox
church prefers to define Orthodoxy as true praise. This means that they think praising and glorifying
God through certain activities is more meaningful. The Greek Orthodox church also puts an
emphasis on the Holy Trinity and believes that the Holy Spirit can unite humans with Jesus Christ
(Fitzgerald 2590). The fundamental ideas of Greek Orthodox include tradition, baptism, Eucharist,
and Theosis. St. George s church in Des Moines embodies these central practices and even engenders
their own specific ways to practice Christianity.

The process of theosis is meant to bring Christians closer to God and become more holy. There is
a common belief among Christians that there should be a relationship with God throughout life,
and not just after death. Therefore, theosis is the movement of love toward God which begins for
each Christian with the rites of Baptism and which continues throughout life, as well as the life
which is to come (Fisher). The theosis that the Eucharist embodies is lived during mass at St.
George s in Des Moines. Greek Orthodox Christianity is lived in Des Moines today in the church
of St. George. During the services, it is typical to have chanting of both English and Greek. The
amount of Greek has slowly lessened. At this time, the service is about half Greek and half English.
Although the languages differ for Greek Orthodox and Catholics, the sign of the cross is prominent
for both religions. At any time during the service, implementing the sign of the cross is completely
acceptable.(Greaver
The Pros And Cons Of The Palestine-Israel Conflict
BBC, CNN, the Fox News etc. Many ordinary people get news or information from the newspaper,
or from these kinds of TV news, but these medias have the same features. They are famous and have
sponsors. What this means is that if they are famous and have sponsors, the way to tell people about
one incident is the way the sponsors want. For instance, there is PalestineIsraelconflict, which Israel
is occupying the Palestinian land. However, because the Japanese, American and British news is all
for Israel, people almost never hear negative news of Israel. For centuries, there was no such conflict
between them, but this whole conflict grew due to the immigration of the Zionists, the extremist
minority of the Jewish population who colonized to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the reasons why the Palestine Israel conflict was made, was because of the United
Kingdom. That country made a deal with both Palestine and Israel, that the UK would help them
make a new country at a holy land. This was impossible to do, nevertheless, UK still tried to make
it, but failed. If the UK did not make a deal with both countries, this conflict and many incidents
might be not happening. Famous and major media news channel, newspaper, and website, BBC
world news made a news report that says Israeli Palestinian conflict: Is one homeland the
solution? . This page was all about what the Palestinian and the Israeli want to do and what they
should do as a plan. It is understandable that there should be many kinds of news, for instance, a
news just summarizing the fact, or a news interview, but to tell people about the fact, people should
know the background information. If there is no background information, it would be hard for the
readers to understand the deepness of topic or conflict. The reason to hide the background
information from the readers is that the topic is something that has some influence on the major
media company, or the sponsor company. For this case, because the BBC is in the UK, they hide
the background information so that the UK citizens would not think that their country is a bad
country. Moreover, this can be said in a Japanese media, too. Mr. Furuya, a social studies teacher in
TGUISS, stated that Japanese history textbooks are changed to avoid them from thinking that Japan
is a bad country. What this means is that Japanese history has original and abnormal history, but on
the other hand, it sometimes was wrong as a teaching. For instance, the teachings of World War II
are impossible as a society nowadays, so when the teachers teach about this, the children might think

Cause And Effects Of The Triangular Trade
Slave trade was huge in the americas and the demand for labor was high. Transported africans were
a part of the translantic trading network also knows as the triangular trade. Some people would
trade goods for africans. African merchants and local rulers captured africans to be enslaved then
brought them to the europeans for gold, guns and other stuff. The voyage that captured slaves and
brought them to north and south america was known as the middle passage. Cause and effects of
african slaveryin the atlantic world resulted in devastation of africans but helped europeans. Slaves

They greatly contributed to the economy and curltural development. Their largest contribution
was their labor, they did a lot for the agriculture. The africans knew a lot about the study of
agriculture and the lands. To the americans they were expertise. They also brought more people
of their race and their religeon into the americas. Not only that but they brought their culture.
Their food, art, music etc... had inspired many americans. The transatlantic slave trade lasted
about four centuries. It is known to be the biggest deportation in history and a highly determining
factor in the 18th century. There was a forced migration of around 12 15 million africans. In the
17th and 18th century the middle passage had a death rate of about 25%. Africans went through
seasoning , were they were shocked by the new world and disease. Around 25% to 33% of people
did not survive seasoning. Cause and effects of african slavery in the atlantic world resulted in
devastation of africans but helped europeans. It was caused by the high demand of labor, because
cheap labor was a solution and because work was dangerous. Some effects were slave trade
became illegal so slave prices jumped, at one time slaves were more valuable than all the banks in
the U.S. and the moral dilemma jump started the civil
Workers During The Industrial Revolution
The industrial revolution was a transition of new manufacturing processes in the period starting at
about 1760 1840 . During this current period the U.S population doubled and more than 14 million
immigrants came to the U.S. Some positives of this time was the industry was able to efficiently
produce more good s with new machines and process. These new machines meant they needed less
people to work so i caused people to lose there jobs . (negative)
The industrial revolution working times were rough because the employers would set wages as low
as they wanted to because people were willing to do work as long as they got paid because they
needed money and any type of money would do . Child laborers often worked to help support their
families,
