Essay on Guns in the Cockpit
Guns in the Cockpit
On the morning of September 11, 2001, four airplanes were hijacked and two of them, brought the
collapse of the World Trade Center towers in New York City. As a result of these attacks on the
United States, airports have come to the realization that the only way to prevent another hijacking is
by strengthening the security on aircrafts through the cockpit. In order to secure the cockpit and
ensure the safety of the passengers on board, guns were introduced as a possible solution in the event
of an emergency situation like those that took place in September of 2001.
The Transportation Security Administration head John Magaw, announced the administrations
position that they are against guns in cockpits and a pilot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the craft was in the air, the terrorists took the initiative and stormed into the cockpit and
took over the controls, turning the aircraft into a guided missile (CBS 1). Increasing security
immediately became an important aspect of airports shortly there after. Adequate security
ensures the safety of the people in the air and citizens on the ground below. It is expected by
passengers, that they are boarding a craft that will land safely at their intended destination. An
aircraft should be a safe place for everyone and even though every person that enters the airport
goes through the required security checkpoints, there is a small fraction of error. Someone will
get by with a potential weapon and board the plane along with it; therefore, the captains should
have some form of a rear view mirror (Press 2). One of the many proposals made since the attacks
is installing video cameras in the cabin to monitor passenger activity for any possible terrorist
actions. A pilot should be aware of what is happening to the plane and the passengers on board at all
times.
In a situation where someone is trying to hijack an airplane, there are three factors needed to be
assessed. Does the terrorist have a weapon, are they attacking alone, and is he or she a trained
fighter in the case of a Federal Air Marshal interfering (APSA 2)? In the incident of the World Trade
Center attacks, the
Reflection About Apathy
Students line the patterned red seats in the high school auditorium. While the speaker on stage
bellows his gospel of forgiveness, some students halfheartedly nod along, some stare at their shoes,
and some snore. Looking around the chapel from my seat in the back row, I am overwhelmed with
one impression: apathy. This mood that hung in the room was pervasive, making me feel
uncomfortable because I realized that I felt it too. While I usually enjoy learningfor its own sake,
apathy has not escaped me. Not only does this mindset manifest in my school s chapel services, but
also in the classroom. When students do not care about learning, they either put in the least amount
of effort possible or resort to rote memorization to maintain their grade. Instead of understanding the
material, they glean little knowledge that they can apply to their lives, making educationrelatively
pointless. This thoughtlessness maddens me because I want to be purposeful in everything that I
do. During my junior year of high school, apathetic students and teachers led me to rediscover the
power I have over my own education. In my physics class, I was miserable: I did not learn I
memorized. Although my teacher had good intentions and a passion for the subject, he taught us
terms and formulas, skirting around fundamentals such as how these concepts connected to each
other. Work equals the applied force times change in time times cosine of the angle. As I sat in my

Rise Of Carthage Essay
Carthage was a powerful empire in modern day Tunisia and one of the last few powers that stood
against Rome s supremacy in the Mediterranean (Morey, 2008/1901). The origins of Carthage can
be traced back to the late ninth century BCE when it was founded by Phoenicians (Lendering,
2018). However, it s rise to empire began after the fall of Tyre in 585 (Lendering, 2018). Carthage
prospered from trade and colonialization and formed an oligarchic government dominated by
aristocratic clans (Cartwright, 2016a). Both Carthage and Rome were powerful empires with
strengths and weaknesses, and their ambitions in the Mediterranean led to the Punic Wars (Morey,
2008/1901).

It is also important to note that Carthage s government was also quite similar to Rome s
government in the early days of the Republic (Morey, 2008/1901). It had a Senate made up of
influential citizens and a popular assembly composed of all male citizens from Carthage
(Cartwright, 2016a). The Carthaginian government also includes two positions called suffetes
similar to the consuls of Rome (Cartwright, 2016a). The Senate decided on declaring war and
peace, as well as deciding whether to send support to armies in the field or punish commanders for
their failures (Cartwright, 2016a). Some senators may be elected to serve temporarily in special
commissions (Cartwright, 2016a). The special commissions include those that supervise taxation,
act as judges in the court, or taking responsibility for religious sites (Cartwright, 2016a). The
popular assembly voted on issues set by the suffetes and the Senate, and the election of the suffetes
and other officials (Cartwright, 2016a). One suffete led the army in times of war while the other
stayed at home to govern (Cartwright, 2016a). The suffetes, the senators, and almost all offices are
chosen based on their wealth and family background (Cartwright,

factors such as age related decline in visual, vestibular, muscle and cognition function, neural

For most NFL players, their salary is their biggest form...
For most NFL players, their salary is their biggest form of compensation. As part of the collective
bargaining agreement, the NFLPA implements something called a salary cap. A salary cap is a
limit on how much a team can spend on a particular player s salary or on a team s entire salary.
Salary, according to the agreement, is money, property, investments, loans, and anything else of
value to an NFL player (both rookies, veterans, and playerswith terminated contracts) but not
including benefits (CBA). It also can cover any payments made by third parties or club affiliates
even if the money is for non football services A player s base salary is the money earned while
playing during the regular NFL season. The collective bargaining... Show more content on

This encourages a team to make deciding choices early on, and reduces the risk that a team will
keep a player and then cut him in favor of a new. A roster bonus deals with being on active roster
during games. If a player does not suit up , then they are not paid. These bonuses can vary by
team. A roster bonus in season is advantageous to a salary cap because it is dependent on what the
player did the year prior. If a player did not play much the year before, then the amount calculated
for the salary cap is less. If the player plays more in the future year than the past year, then the
additional salary is calculated later on in the season, instead of during the free agency period. This
leaves more money free at the beginning of the season.
Another type of bonus that is accounted in the salary cap is the bonus for offseason workouts.
Mandatory participation cannot be required, so teams offer large bonuses for players who
participate regularly. If the players participate for a certain amount, then they can receive the bonus.
At the start of the 2013 league year, the NFL implemented a cap fee of $504,000 for minimum
workouts in addition to the contracted bonuses. This means that $504,000 would be subtracted from
the team salary cap. If the players do not earn the total of this amount due to nonparticipation, then
each team will receive a
Crucifixion By Giotto Di Bondone Essay
There are many different aspects to the mystery of god and many people believe in different things.
Our understanding of the ideal representation of the wonder and awe in the mystery of god is the
trinity where there are three aspects. Through the artwork of Crucifixion by Giotto di Bondone
portrays God, is divine and Trinitarian. The mystery of God is reflected in the picture of Crucifixion
painted by Giotto Di Bondone as the image explains the core Catholic Christian belief in the mystery
of trinityof one God, three elements namely the creator, Jesusthe Son and the Holy Spirit.
Giotto di Bondone was an Italian painter and architect from Florence in the late middle ages. He
generally considered in the first line of great artists who contributed to the renaissance, which is the
style of the painting (Artable, n.d). He drew his figures and their postures according to his
interpretation to the nature of God. In this artwork it speaks the trinity, three elements; with the
creator being the sky, angels representing the Holy Spirit and the human Jesus as the son on the
cross. In the picture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who
believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood
nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. This scripture shows how people are
to live in relation to god. We are meant to believe and follow his teachings left by Jesus the son,
the Holy Spirit all shown throughout the bible. This links to my artwork as it portrays people
following god through Jesus teachings, which is what the scripture, says which links through to my
painting. Courage is a main aspect of the mystery of god. I believe this is portrayed through my
image as it shows Jesus courage to sacrifice himself for our sins. Scriptures further prove
Hassan Farhang Ansari
Because the Shi a philosophy considers the renewal in ijtihad and in fiqh is always a possibility,
and it takes pride as one of their main important aspects of their law. It makes possible a more
contemporary perspective of the women s role in today s world.
No wonder then that the Shi a approach to women s rights is evolving . Hassan Farhang Ansari
brilliantly discusses in his article, The Shiite Interpretation of the Status of Women, that women
always had an important role in Shia religion, starting with the Prophet s daughter Fatima who
brought an incredible insight into the history of the Islam and was the fiercest defender of Ali s right
to succession. Also Zeynab, who was always at the side of Husayn in Kerbala and who later on
took over the duty to protect her family and her brother, the next Imam, to assure the transmission of
the political and religious message of the Islamic movement. These are crucial differences from

Being a Shia or Sunni it has to do with identity, it defines who they are. The Shia, as a minority
group, their communities tend to gravitate around their religious leaders. Whereas in the Sunni
world the sultans and caliphs were the ones who carried the political authority, the clerics were
dependent on them, therefore, they have less religious charisma in the community. Shia believes in
the visitation of shrines places of Grace and saint worships (nasr). The Wahabi movement from
Sunni Islam condemn this Shi a practice and it categorizes it as heretical. The majority of Sunni

Attitudes Toward Conversations In Walden, By Henry David...
In this excerpt from his book Walden, Henry David Thoreau discusses having visitors over at his
house, how the size of the room and the distance between each other affects their conversations,
and the fact that the outdoors is the best place to have a conversation. Throughout the passage, he
uses various literary devices that give extra meaning to his words and help to explain his attitude
towards his visitors. Thoreau uses literary devices such as irony and metaphor throughout the
passage to develop his apathetic attitude towards his visitors. Thoreau uses irony to develop his
apathetic attitude towards visitors. Towards the beginning of the passage he says, I am ready
enough to fasten myself like a bloodsucker for the time to any full blooded man that comes in my
way and I had three chairs in my house (lines 1 5). It is ironic that Thoreau seems so eager and
willing to have visitors at his house, but at the same time he doesn t even try to make his visitors
comfortable (which in theory should attract more people to his... Show more content on

In the middle of the passage he says, If we are merely loquacious and loud talkers, then we can
afford to stand very near together... but if we speak reservedly and thoughtfully, we want to be
farther apart (lines 32 34). This metaphor compares being physically close in a room with other
people to being close to them on a personal level, as well as compares being physically spread
apart in a room to having enough space to get to know their ideas. In other words, this is a
metaphor that compares a real room to an intellectual one. Thoreau doesn t care about understanding
the feelings of other people and getting to know his visitors on a personal level, but rather he cares
about understanding their ideas and getting some kind of intellectual gain from his visitors. This is
apathetic, or indifferent due to lack of energy or concern, because Thoreau doesn t have enough
concern for his visitors to want to get to know them at
Desiree s Baby Symbolism Essay
Austin Sweat Professor Kristina Holland English 111 Honors 28 September 2014 The story of
Desiree s Baby by Kate Chopin is a story of love, mystery, and the hate of the human race. In order
to fully grasp the concepts that the story is trying to show one must understand the use of
symbolism, which is the use of one act or object to represent something else entirely. The story very
clearly uses symbolism to show the reader the darkness of Armond, the purity of Desiree, and the
way that people were being treated at this point in human history. Throughout the story it is fairly
easy to see the use of symbolism to represent the darkness of Armond, which is beautifully blended
with the use of foreshadowing. One of the primary ways that the story... Show more content on

She uses this a couple of times throughout the story, the first one being the status of the home
when Desiree first arrives. When she gets to the home Chopin uses the ominous feeling of the
home as a symbol for the literal darkness of Armond. The home is completely ominous. The story
tells us that the home was surrounded by ominous trees, the roof caving inward, as well as the
fact that his slaves had forgotten how to be happy. The second time that the story uses physical
darkness is when it is talking about how Armand s ... dark, handsome face had not often been
disfigured by frowns since the day he fell in love with her. These are both symbols of the darkness
of Armond, in the first it is showing the reader the darkness of the resident with the physical
displeasure of the home. The second, shows us the physical darkness that Armond that represents
the darkness within as well. Throughout the story there are also symbols that represent the purity
of Desiree, beginning with her name. In the book What shall we name the baby? the name Desiree
can be found to mean the desired . In the story it is very evident that Desiree is one of the most
desired people as she is ...beautiful, and gentle, affectionate, and sincere the idol of Valmonde. This
leads the reader to believe that she has both physical and internal desirable
Comedia Dell Arte
Comedia dell Arte Part one Type of Comedy Comedia Dell Arte is an over exaggerated, comedic
satire that runs without a script. Although characters are free to say as they want, this is only so
due to the formal structure in place, designated costumes, specific masks and particular

An Analysis Of Station Eleven By Emily St. John Mandel
The bright side of the planet moves toward darkness and the cities are falling asleep, each in its
hour. And for me, now as then, it is too much. (Mandel 1) The plot of this book primarily revolves
around this quote. Throughout the book, the story portrayed a lifestyle that is dangerous, yet oddly
satisfying. A life where there aren t any modern conveniences yet a life that is free. The story takes
place in a post apocalyptic world where a virus crippled human civilization. The plotcenters on a girl
named Kristen, with references to the events leading up to the massive pandemic. Station Eleven

significant book. Therefore, for these reasons, I did... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To me, transitions are subtle, but the author, Emily St. John Mandel, somehow managed to put all
the shifts in the worst locations in the entire book. For example, the book begins with the death of
Arthur Leander but doesn t give background information until nearly the end of the book.
The king stumbled and reached for them as they flitted here and there in the shadows. His name
was Arthur Leander. He was fifty one years old, and there were flowers in his hair. (Mandel 3)
O.K, maybe I exaggerated, but only tidbits of information were dropped within the text. The book
would be better organized if it were divided into multiple volumes. For example, volume one could
be about Arthur Leander and the time leading up to the pandemic. Volume two could be about Kristen
and the Traveling Symphony and volume three could be about this mystery town. Also, multiple
volumes would allow the author to reveal more information and not leave out blanks in the plot.
Finally, at the end of the book, Kristen peeks through a telescope and sees a town with actual
electricity and lights.
In the distance, pinpricks of light arranged into a grid. There, plainly visible on the side of a hill
some miles distant: a town, or a village, whose streets were lit up with electricity. (Mandel 311)
In the last chapter, the plot suddenly focuses on a family that is living in this new town. The
