BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION

9. Out of 800 families with 4 children each, how many families would be expected to have
(i) 2 boys and 2 girls (ii) atleast one boy (iii) atmost 2 girls (iv) children of both sex?
Assume equal probabilities for boys and girls.
10. In a large consignment of electric bulb 10% are defective. A random sample of 20 is taken
for inspection. Find the probability that (i) All are good bulbs (ii) Atmost there are 3
defective bulbs (iii) Exactly there are 3 defective bulbs.
11. The probability of a bomb hitting a target is 1/5. Two bombs are enough to destroy a bridge.
If six bombs are aimed at the bridge, find the probability that the bridge is destroyed? (M/J

12. The probability of a man hitting a target is 1/4 . (i) if he fires 7 times, what is the probability
of his hitting the target atleast twice? (ii) How many times must he fire so that the

POISSON DISTRIBUTION

13. The number of typing mistakes that a typist makes on a given page has a poisson
distribution with a mean of 3 mistakes. What is the probability that she makes (i) Exactly
7 mistakes (ii) Fewer than 4 mistakes
(iii) No mistakes on a given page.
14. If 3% of electric bulbs manufactured by the company that 100 bulbs selected randomly are
defective. Find exactly 5 bulbs are defective.
15. The average no. of traffic accidents on a certain section of a highway is 2 per week. Assume
that the no. of accidents follows a poisson distribution. Find the probability that (i) No. of
Accident in a week (ii) Atmost 3 accident in 2 week period.
16. Messages arrive at a switch board in a poisson manner at an average rate of six per hour.
Find the probability for each of the following events:
(i) exactly two messages arrive within one hour.
(ii) no message arrives within one hour
(iii) atleast three messages arrive within one hour.

GEOMETRIC DISTRIBUTION

17. If the probability that a target is destroyed on any one shot is 0.5. what is the probability
that it would be destroyed on 6th attempt ?
UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION

18. The no. of P.C of sold, daily at the computer world, it is uniformly distributed with
minimum of 2000 PC and maximum of 5000 PC. Find the (i) the probability that daily
sales, will fall between 2500 and 3000. (ii) What is the probability that the computer will
sell, at least 4000 PC’s. (iii) What is the probability that the computer will exactly sell 2500
PC’s.

EXPONENTIAL DISTRIBUTION

19. The mileage which car owners get with a certain kind of radial tire is a random variable
having an exponential distribution with mean 40,000 km. Find the probability that one of
these tires will last at least 20,000 km. Also find the probability that one of these tires will
last at most 30,000 km.
