MALABAN

1. HISTORY/BACKGROUND
The name “Malaban” originated from a historical event during the Spanish Conquest in the 16th century.
When Capitan Juan de Salcedo (Miguel Lopez de Legazpi’s grandson) explored the area now known as
Biñan, he encountered fierce resistance from the local, who fought back with bows, arrows, and bolos. The
Spanish referred to this battle as “Manlalaban” (from “nanlaban”, meaning “fought”). Over time, the area
came to be known as “Manlalaban”, which eventually became Malaban. Today, it's known for its proximity to
Laguna de Bay and its ongoing development as a lakeshore tourism and recreational area. Fishing and
shoemaking are still important local industries.

Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 35,989. This represented 8.83% of the total
population of Biñan.

DELA PAZ
1. HISTORY/BACKGROUND
Dela Paz is known for its historical significance, particularly as the location where José Rizal, the Philippine
national hero, received his early education. The area is also home to the Dela Paz Parish Church, where a
chapel site associated with Rizal's visits has been declared a Local Historical Site. Biñan was founded in
1571 by Captain Juan de Salcedo. The chapel site within the church where Rizal visited has been
recognized for its historical importance and declared a Local Historical Site. Dela Paz, as part of Biñan, is
nationally recognized for its role in Rizal's life and education, making it a significant location in Philippine
history. The area continues to be a vibrant part of Biñan, with a mix of residential, commercial, and
historical sites that reflect the city's rich heritage.

CASILE
1. HISTORY/BACKGROUND
Before industrialization, Casile's main source of livelihood was agriculture. Today the baranggay is known
for its footwear industry, particularly bakya and step-in making. During the Korean War, citizens from Casile
joined the Philippine troops that helped South Korea fight against Chinese Communist forces

Philippines. San Jose got its name from Saint Joseph, the patron saint of the town.

1. HISTORY/BACKGROUND
Barangay Santo Domingo is known as the "Sorbetes Capital of Biñan".The barangay was formerly part of
the Hacienda de San Isidro Labrador de Biñán, a large estate owned by the Dominicans. Settlers from
various places, such as Muntinlupa and Silang, inhabited the area.

The population of Barangay Santo Domingo in Biñan, Laguna was 6,159 as of the 2020 Census.
