V2500

A Classy Event in San Diego

We would like to thank all of those that were able to join the V2500 team in March for another successful
event. Attendees participated in three full days of presentations, breakout sessions and social events with
many opportunities to make connections and build relationships. IAE received high scores in the event
survey, showing that the conference was worthwhile.

In reviewing conference survey, your feedback confirmed that the content and topics were valuable and
relevant, and well worth the time!

At the end of this conference, the IAE team was pleased to announce the dates and location of our 2026
World Conference, planned for March 9-12, 2026 in Malta. Please mark your calendar with these dates
and reach out to your V2500 Customer Fleet Director or Field Service Representative if you have any
questions.

V2500 AMM Inspection of HPT Hardware: Burn Through D5

A1 A5
Hole Measurement Clarification
Based on recent customer inquiries and feedback, IAE CTS wanted to clarify the correct
methods for measuring burn through holes on HPT hardware. The measurement to be clarified
is the correct location on a burn through hole to measure from. Identifying the correct location is
important because this identifies the correct potential reduced inspection required. For example,
on a Stage 1 HPT Blade, if a burn through hole is close to a limit in size, the correct
measurement could mean placing the engine on a 1500/750 hour repeat inspection opposed to
a 300/150 hour repeat inspection.

Burn Through Hole Measurement Locations:

• When measuring a burn through hole you want to take the measurement from the inner most
exposed surfaces as can be seen on the BSI.
• In Figure 1 (next page), you can see three example locations where a measurement could be
taken from, and what location is correct:
• First Location - At the top of the exposed ceramic coating
• Second Location - At the external location of the base metal
• Third Location - At the internal location of the base metal
• These three locations are examples and can be applied to all HPT hardware (Blades /
Vanes / BOAS). Some hardware however may not have ceramic coating and thus this
example would not be applicable.
• In Figure 2 (next page), you can see three examples of incorrect and correct methods of
measurement on Stage 1 HPT Blade leading edge burn through holes.
• The first example shows a burn through hole with pushed out material. The
measurements should be taken where the material is missing, not the outside edges of
the damage.
• The second example shows a burn through hole with some burning, oxidation, and
missing material around the edges. The measurements should be taken at the inner
most locations of the burning, not the outer most location.
• The third example shows burning along a Stage 1 HPT Blade leading edge. In this
example, the initial measurement of 0.740” was taken from the tip of the blade to the
end of the burning damage. The correct measurement should be taken from the tip of
the blade to the edge of the exposed inner cooling cavity, as this is what is considered
the burn through hole.

V2500® Engines Surpass 300 Million Flight Hours Of Service

A1 A5 D5

IAE International Aero Engines AG (IAE) announced that the V2500® engine has surpassed 300
million engine flight hours of operational experience. IAE is a multinational consortium comprised
of Pratt & Whitney, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business, Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International
GmbH, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines AG.

Powering approximately 2,800 aircraft and serving more than 150 operators, the V2500 engine
operates passenger, cargo, and military missions around the world. The engine currently powers
the Airbus A320ceo family, including A321F passenger-to-cargo conversions, as well as the
Embraer C-390 Millennium multi-mission military transport aircraft.

IAE celebrated 40 years of collaboration and innovation in 2023 and successfully tested the
V2500 on 100% Synthetic Aviation Fuel in 2024.

"The V2500 is a mainstay of the industry, and this latest milestone of 300 million flight hours is
evidence of the engine's legacy of reliability and performance," said Kelly Horan, president, IAE.
"With an average age of 15 years, the V2500 engine is in the prime of its life – and we continue
to offer customized solutions to meet our customers' needs."

Demonstrating its durability and robustness, the current high-time V2500 engine, on its first run,
was recently removed for service. The engine achieved more than 43,000 hours since first
installed in April 2013.

Pratt & Whitney and IAE offer enhanced services for the V2500 engine, including life-limited part
solutions, new and serviceable material programs and engine swaps, which can be tailored to
operators' unique operational and financial needs. The V2500 engine is backed by 13
established facilities around the world that provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul services,
including eight IAE party company facilities.

Commercial Support Programs A1 A5 D5

In each VIS publication, IAE lists the V#1 Reliability Service Bulletins (SBs) and shows the high-level benefits for each as
they relate to the following measured reliability drivers: In-Flight Shutdowns, Aborted Take-Offs, Delays and
Cancellations, and unscheduled Engine Removals. While it is understood that not all operators have the same issues
within their fleets, the proactive introduction of these SBs could reduce the risk of having these drivers affect their fleets.
IAE and our suppliers have offered commercial incentive programs to support operators in making product improvements
over the past several years. Some of these programs have been driven by safety. Others have been introduced to
enhance the reliability of the engine and to extend time between shop visits. The purpose of this article is to serve as a
reminder of what support programs are available to keep the V2500 the most reliable and fuel-efficient engine in its thrust
class.
The list below shows all commercially supported SBs that are located on the EngineWise® Connect Portal. For further
information on the support offerings, please contact your V2500 Customer Fleet Director (CFD) or your V2500 Field
Support Representative and mention this article.

Service Bulletins (SB) and Non-Modification Service Bulletins (NMSB)

Service Bulletins (SBs) are the documents through which a change to the V2500 engine Bill of Material (BOM) is
communicated. The SB contains information regarding the nature and reason for the change. NMSBs are documents
used for special, non-routine inspections or checks for safety or satisfactory operation of the V2500 engine. A NMSB
may also instruct minor engine rework provided the configuration of the engine is not affected.
